During their occupation, the Bargi mercenaries of the Marathas are said to have perpetrated massacres against the local population. [18] According to estimation of Chief of Dutch Factory Jan Kerssebom's memoirs perhaps close to 400,000 Hindu people in western Bengal and Bihar were killed.[19] Contemporary accounts of the invasions report mass gang rape against women and children,[20][21][22][23][24][25] and mutilation of victims by the Marathas which included cutting off their hands and noses.[26][27] According to the Bengali text Maharashtra Purana, "Durga ordered her followers to be gracious to the Muslim Nawab and oppose the Marathas, because the evil-minded ones had killed Brahmans and Vaisnavas."[17] The Marathas intended to establish their rule in western Bengal by attracting the local Hindu zamindars against the Muslim Nawab but the high atrocities against the Hindu population diminished all the possibilities of such an alliance.[17]

@@Sweetdification she's not telling the truth the middle east plundered the Indian subcontinent because that's what it was before the British turned India was a nation for 800 years.
Why don't they ask Afghanistan, Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, North Africa etc to return artifacts.
The Mughal empire which ruled most of India before the British declared independence from the rest of the Muslim world so they could keep what they were taking from the Hindus instead of paying tribute with it to the Muslim world.
An example is the two diamonds held by the Iran central bank which were taken in an invasion of northern India in 1739 by an Iranian ruler. By the way the British were in India at the same time.
These two diamonds form part of the Iranian crown jewels and are among the largest in the world.
I would like to know why Indians don't demand these jewels to be returned but demand the jewel in the British crown which was ceded to queen Victoria after the Anglo/Sikh war in 1849 after which the Sikhs became allies of the British.

    • @ashla7323
      @ashla7323 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

@@vigfhfc This is a point often raised with some artifacts. However, in the Koohinoors case, the diamond's origin is indisputably traced to the Kollur mines which belong in India (now and then). Its original owners were the Kakatiya kings, the last owner prior to its removal from the subcontinent was Ranjit Singh who willed it to the Jagannath temple, in present day Orissa. Ultimately it is a shiny rock so I don't really care for it that much and I think the Koohinoor is overrated and given outsized attention. Jobs, Shelter, food and friendship are more important to me as a human being as human life and dignity are worth far more than a shiny rock. The question continues to arise however for Hindu and Buddhist sculptures as these were objects of veneration that belong to a still continuing and thriving culture/civilization. Home affordability is an issue in modern times and doing away with museums and unused commercial properties (affected by lockdown measures) to make space for residential spaces would be a good thing.

Ok, let us say the British return all these pieces of Art and History to the nations from they were stolen. Then, if you want to watch them, you would have to go to several countries, paying more plane tickets, risking your health and even your life, for India, Africa, even Egipt are dangerous places with all the poverty they exhibit. Empires always stole from the defeated. Leave the British Museum alone. India, Africa, and the whole world should worry first about HUMAN TRAFFICKING, hunger, dictatorships, wars, ignorance, religious fanatism, etc. Leave the past alone and do not try to revise it, for it will only lead to WAR. But, if we are going to do it, ask also Rusia where are the collections of Spaniard´s paintings they stole from Cuba during the 1960s, or the entire factory the Ruskies dissembled and took away from an American company after the Cuban dictatorship intervened that co. without remuneration. Or ask China to stop technological espionage for that matter.

Let us not dream. Present Indian security, investigation, punishment is poor. Think of thousands idol theft since several decades from Tamil Nadu, again ivory by Veerappan, presently the red sanders. Where the looted money has gone. Why no CBI investigation. Better to concentrate on present loot than the past and take protective measures.

I had been to India in mid 90's and had the chance to go around of few historical places. Altho I already forgotten the name of the place but one of them is vividly remembered. That ruined stone bldg like where small and huge diamonds that are embedded was taken out forcibly from the walls of the ruins and put them on the crown of Queen Elizabeth's 1 that is passed to generation of queen of England including the current Queen Elizabeth.
I may already forgotten so many more other things I'd seen and told those time but this story of the diamonds is vividly etched in my head up to this day coz the spaces left of the diamonds (including the small ones)on that stone wall can tell how huge the diamonds were. After I heard it out, I ache for India each time I've seen that crown of the England's queen. Funny but whites those era stoles from Asians. The Phils. also been looted of., Thailand and Vietnam too experienced the same. At least the US sent back the thousand years old bell that has been part of Phil. history. There are still more that they are asking to return it back. Goodluck India, you are talking about the queen's crown 😀. Just thinking about it, it's already chaotic to solve. I doubt if they can taken that out from the crown coz that meant recreating a new crown😀

You can not criticise other people without getting your own house in order.
"Amnesty International is deeply alarmed by the series of escalating attacks against Indigenous peoples in
the Philippines. The organization calls on the Philippine government to put a stop to violence, arrests and
harassment perpetrated against Indigenous peoples. The government should launch prompt and impartial
investigations into these attacks, and prosecute and bring to justice those found responsible in
proceedings in line with human rights standards regarding due process. It should also take concrete steps
to ensure the protection, security and well-being of all Indigenous peoples, including those risking their
lives to call attention to human rights violations in their communities and fight for Indigenous peoples’
      rights"

@@sibiantony1609 do you mean the Indian thugs because 90% of the British army in India were Indian and that does not include the Indian kingdoms that fought with the British.
You don't know any history, the British made countless films about life in colonial India why don't you watch some of them on you tube.
If the British raped hundreds of thousands of Indian women there would be large numbers of Anglo Indians which there are not.
There are large numbers of Indians with Persian Arabic and Turkic ancestry.
There were a maximum of 300000 British in India towards the end of British rule.
How was it possible for them to rape all these women when any type of relationship with Indian women consensual or not was not allowed and had to take place in secret and a lot of the judges in India were Indian who had the authority to prosecute Europeans.
