- In this eighth and final episode of Behind the Crest from Canada, the U.S. WNT revels in its World Cup triumph, celebrating with fans from coast to coast. After the historic win against Japan in Vancouver, the team goes on set at FOX, heads back to the USA to present the trophy to fans in Los Angeles and caps it off with a historic ticker tape parade in New York City.

In 1991, when the U.S. won the first Women's World Cup, after they returned home, nobody even knew what had happened. Fast forward to 2015. What a difference 24 years makes.
***** When they came back home in 1991, apparently three journalists were there to welcome them and I think they said some families and that was it. Their first world cup win was filed under "miscellaneous sports", that's how obscure soccer was in the US back then. Since then, it has grown to be a major sport.
Melissa Skillens Well of course their families knew. But most people in the country probably didn't even know we had a women's national team back then.
There was a lot more fans and celebration in 99 but that was also because the WC was on American Soil.

It's funny that the coach and Hope Solo gave these inspiring speeches and Abby Wambach comes up and yells "We won the World Cup baby!!!"

But seriously I've a fan of the USWNT since the 2011 world cup and I've never seen players as loyal and dedicated like this group of women so they have every right in the world to be called the best team in the world and I'm pretty sure this is just the beginning of their journey

Oh my god I'm on the verge of tears. I love this team so much. I'm so proud of them and all that they stand for. I cannot wait to see them kickoff their victory tour in Pittsburgh.

I use to think that soccer was fun and I could never make it, but after watching this I started really working harder and harder and I made it to varsity just the other day and my coach said "out of all these players I think that you will be the one who goes further!" and that made me the happiest person in the world that someone especially your coach believing in you is amazing! I hope to play for the WNT when I'm like 20 years old.
Congratulations! I have the same dream to play for the USWNT and if not at least in the NWSL but after I've watched these I've been inspired to work harder. I'm only a freshman in high school but after the summer league we had their current goalkeepers (yes I am a goalie) said that I may start some varsity games. So I can only hope

I just loved this! I have been a fan of this team since 1996 when they won their first gold medal in Atlanta. I went to a game during the 1999 World Cup. It is so satisfying to see this team at the top of their sport again. From the 91ers to the 15ers this team has a history of excellence. I believed.

In 2011, when Japan came back twice, I knew that they were destined to win the World Cup.
In 2015, when USA pummelled Columbia and Germany, I knew they were destined to win it and nothing was going to stop them. I'm so proud to say that this is my team I stand behind. Always and forever.
osnapitzme12 destiny had nothing to do with it in 2011 that was bad coaching from sundahage and poor defense USA gave that game to Japan.i knew our Ladies would not allow that to happen again so proud of them all for bringing the cup HOME.
That trophy was well deserved. Congrats USWNT!! You Girls are the best and a great inspiration to young women like my self.

É uma pena que o futebol brasileiro não seja tratado da mesma forma que é nos USA. Em pouco tempo, eles criaram duas ligas profissionais, MLS(Major League Soccer), para o futebol masculino e a NWSL (National Women's Soccer League), para o futebol feminino, que certamente já é muito maior que a liga brasileira(tanto em marketing e em jogadores). Sem falar do fortalecimento da Seleção Nacional, que em pouco tempo, ganhou 3 ouros olímpicos e 3 Mundiais da Fifa. No Brasil falta organização e os USA estão nos mostrando o caminho! O futebol Pena-Campeão Mundial merece mais.

It's not there job to promote diversity. It's there job to put together the best group of players that they can. If this is who the best players in the country are that's who goes and plays. If the best players are diverse, so be it. If they aren't, so be it. It shouldn't be the main concern over talent when building a team
