    That black and white photo montage is one of the greatest photo montage I have ever seen. I will spend no time putting Joe with greatest photographers in history. That is such a phenomenal set of images

    Although technically, Joe's photos are not perfect, his whole thing is capturing the moment which he does better than most. Too many of us get caught up on the right lighting or composition, or the best bokeh or sharpness or a lens. Photography is an art not a science. I think his style is liberating

    When he talks on stagem its so much more than talking, its so inspiring to listen to, to watch, I learned so much about myself as photografer in 1:43 minutes than what I thought I had done in 2 years. I will never forget the 5 words, "It's all about the moment" and when he say when I go to a wedding I go there to make MYSELF happy, sure to someone it can sound arrogant, but when you listen to him you understand it so much! You sell yourself and your style and if you dont find yourself or style you truly arent happy about a picture! Thank you so much for this video!

    Wow! Just played around with P mode! Never knew my camera could do that in that setting! My husband also does photography & the saying around our house now is: "I shoot P mode." It's funny. Thanks, Joe! I must have watched this video a hundred times. And even though I don't do wedding photography, your passion and your images in this video are extremely inspirational. I have recommended to every one in my photo club to watch it, and many have. Keep on inspiring us, Joe! Your work is great!

    All is o.k. but the P mode "tactics" he explain just doesn't work. I've tried it on 5DII and on 7D. Everytime you lock the "AE lock", no matter which button you set for the function, it stays the same. With releasing the thumb from the button does not override the settings so you still have AE lock on. I takes some seconds while it automatically cancels the AE lock or the only possible way to cancel the lock is wait 4-6 seconds or press the AF point select button to cancel. See this article from canon www.learn.usa.canon.com/resources/articles/2011/autoexposure_ae_lock_article.shtml page 3

    "Color, contrast, DENSITY". Will someone please let me know what he meant by density? Thank you.
    Great video. Even greater photographer.

    • @essellar
      @essellar 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He's talking *about* digital, but he's speaking in film language. "Density" would be basic exposure (where Zone V falls) as well as the white and black points (where the toe and shoulder of the film's contrast curve would lie). In roll film terms (assuming properly-exposed film and "normal" development), colour would be a combination of film choice, the enlarger's filter pack (for colour prints) and toning (warm/cool-toned paper, sepia or other toning, etc., for B&W), contrast (between Zones III and VIII) would mostly be about the paper grade, and density would be mostly about the print's exposure and development. There is some overlap, of course, but it's kind of natural for a film guy to break it down that way.

      because when you are on a P mode, the camera adjust the F. stop automatically, that means, your F. stop is determine by the camera not you... so if you want to adjust it your self, you either use M, A mode...

    • @Tosy52
      @Tosy52 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      When I was young and ignorant I would make the same comments as Danijel made... "oh I could have done that" Every time I saw a photo that people like Jay Maisel or Pete Turner took. Yeah, if I were standing right there, had their camera, had their client list, had access to the people and places they had, had Jay or Pete point out the shot, make the subject freeze long enough for me to figure out the F stop and shutter speed... and so on, Then Im sure in my mind I would have taken the shot, BUT, none of those things ever happened. The comment above is ignorant with all due respect. Joe finds those spots, gets the exposure, gets the composition, under pressure of the moment that Danijel nor I nor anyone else knows. A mom talking in his ear, a hot sweaty room, late for this, getting to the next shot,is the camera set correctly,is this the correct lens...?
      Yeah "nothing spectacular" is such an ignorant comment I just could not let it go.
      Ill be waiting patiently to go to your next seminar Danijel. With all due respect.
      Forget the money he makes, Joe is giving back everything he has learned to help the rest of us. Id be happy to be his third shooter and Ive been making a living at this for 43 years.

    • @danijell6539
      @danijell6539 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Joe is a great talker, not a great photographer, that is my observation based on what he displayed here, and I'm sure I'm not mistaken. If you work as a photographer of any kind, than you know that people skills and self promotion is more important than actual photography skills, and that exactly is the case here, so don't get too offensive...

    • @Tosy52
      @Tosy52 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Danijel L Sorry if I came off offensive. I just disagree with your assessment. I think his photography is more impressive than his presentation. Working under the pressure of the events he does is something you can only appreciate if you have been there. Photographing a million dollar wedding is amazing pressure. If you screw it up, its your ass. I know many photographers who are much much better than I am but they fall apart in front of a celebrity, or person of high rank. I don't, and I get jobs with them because I am able to take the pressure of their power. Not because Im better. Some people make that pressure look easy. Joe is one of those people. If you feel Joe is selling some presets or videos, just don't buy them. I don't, but I do respect him.

    • @NoSoldat4u
      @NoSoldat4u 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He definitely has spectacular photos. Each is a true moment of emotion that speaks much more loudly to the intended clients than to the critical eye of jealous photographers.

  • @eltonsebastian7586
    @eltonsebastian7586 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    There are lots of wedding photographers who could do those kind and quality of image. So why would i spend 5 digit dollars for those kind of images? I would choose a photographer who would blow my mind with their pictures if i were to spend that amount! Not a photog that blows my mind through his words!

  • @AndreOdermatt
    @AndreOdermatt 10 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I love Joe's work and I try to implement what I learn from him into my work.
    However, shooting weddings, P mode does not really work for me. What I found to work really well is the following (for Nikon, don't know about Canon, but I guess it must be very similar):
    - Set the camera to auto-ISO
    - with maximum sensitivity set to 6400
    - minimum shutter speed to what you belive will still produce an image without
    motion blur, e.g. 1/160
    - Aperture priority
    - this allows you to set depth of field to what you want
    The rest will be done by the camera automatically.
    If the scene gets darker, the camera will first raise the ISO until it reaches the limit of 6400 (as set above). If the picture would become underexposed, the camera will violate the minimum shutter speed limit means it will lower the shutter speed. So, the camera will sacrifice shutter speed over ISO.
    If the scene would become brighter, the camera will decrease the ISO while keeping the shutter speed at 1/160. Once the camera reaches ISO 100, it will increase the shutter speed.
    I found that this is what works best for me. In most cases, I only need to worry about aperture means depth of field. Everything else will be done by the camera itself.

    • @AstroSam66
      @AstroSam66 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I absolulety agree with you. I also prefer Auto-ISO and Aperture Priority. P-Mode is just... unpredictably. I choose my aperture depending on for what i shoot. With my long lenses i just put it at f8 and all pictures are point sharp. Besides of portrait, here i go for bluring background and choose the biggest aperture my lense is offering me.

      no offence but this is a tell tale sign of a photographer who depends on bookeh to make photos look good, I hope 5 years later you have developed, if you look at Joe's photos he relies on framing, not bookeh, thats why his photos look so good!, bookeh is a easy way for amateur to make photos look good, and everyone does it. Non of the street photographers he mentions have shallow depth of field photos.

    Joe ... thank you so much for all of these videos!!! As a photographer I thought there was something wrong with me!!! I don't like to pose people!!! I stink at it!!! I love to capture people when they have absolutely no idea that I am. Even my own family has called me sneaky for doing this. But that's when you get something amazing!! I watch your videos all the time, then I go practice more to get it down the way I want it to look. Although I have a hard time with your slide shows ... I end up with tears rolling down my face because the amazing emotions that you captured! Thanks to you I now know that isn't a dang thing wrong with me as a photographer, it's just my style and what I do. That's what makes me stand out and I know I won't be for everyone, but that's alright. The ones that I am right for will get something amazing from me. They will get their entire day with every emotion that they felt and be able to look back at that day and feel it all over again. Even I chose the photographer for my wedding I was very explicit about not having that many posed photos. When I look back on my wedding day I see what everyone was feeling including me. That isn't something that every photographer can accomplish. You are to say the least my inspiration for doing it my way!!! Thank you!!!

    Saludos Joe ,
    Todo es muy inspirador,
    Pero creo que en una conferencia o
    Un dia para adriestrar fotografos,
    Se debe hablar de fotografia y no de
    Un curso de sicologia, todo se puede combinar siempre que se hable de tecnicas fotograficas.
    Quiero dejar claro que en este momento es uno de los mejores fotografos.
    Pero dando adiestramientos o conferencias se pierde mucho tiempo en lo lindo que es el cielo y las estrellas y se habla poco de los tipos de lentes, tecnicas de expocision, que tipo de iso utilizar la iluminacion y otros.
    Gracias.

Thank you so very much. you have lit me up and am looking forward to going back to what I am really about, Passion, images that please me, EMOTIONS, because that is why I love what I do. my emotions have always come out in my images, I just got lost with what people think they wanted and it isn't about that at all. It is about what you can do as a great photographer to capture that moment those feelings and time.
