I love this so much. Always loved Carl Reiner in anything he did. He was really quite handsome! Who new that little Robbie would turn out to play Mike (Meathead) Stivic in All In The Family!! I love This Is Your Life. Such a great show.
How many know that Carls wife is the lady who says the famous line "I'll have what she's having..." in the movie When Harry Met Sally, directed by her son,Mike Reiner.
That was amazing! Carl is so good he was happy and taking over. Hardly anyone tolerated Ralph's social clumsiness worth a damn. This felt like advance memorial service chatting. Estelle blew me away and look how young Rob is!
The genesis of this broadcast began when Ralph surprised Carl after a sketch/production number on "THE DINAH SHORE CHEVY SHOW" on March 20, 1960. Immediately after her show ended, Ralph escorted Carl to his studio, and taped this episode which originally aired on March 23, 1960.
Carl Reiner snuck a lot of personal things in the Dick Van Dyke Show. His friend in this video is named Joe Coogan. The man who was Laura Petrie’s old boyfriend who became a priest was named Joe Coogan. . Also the video says that Carl Reiner served at Camp Crowder. So did Rob Petrie.
It was supposed to be about himself, but the network wanted someone else for the part. It came down to Dick Van Dyke, who was starring on Broadway, and Johnny Carson whom the network liked put could quite figure out what to do with. The choice was Dick's and he made network history and perhaps most importantly launched to career of Mary Tyler Moore, who's production company was very influential. Unfortunately, it wrecked his own life, turning him into an alcoholic.
Sheldon Leonard saw the original "HEAD OF THE FAMILY" pilot featuring Carl- after CBS passed on it- and told him, "There is only one thing wrong with that show.......YOU." He insisted Carl was a better writer and producer than a "star", and offered to become his production partner with Danny Thomas for a *second* pilot- which was filmed in January 1961, and sold to Procter & Gamble and CBS for the fall of '61.
In 1960, Dick starred in a pilot {produced by Frank Cooper} for CBS, "THE TROUBLE WITH RICHARD"- about a bachelor who works as a bank clerk (and has a penchant for getting into ridiculous situations)- with Doro Merande as "Aunt Julia", Penker Fennelly as "Gramps", and Howard Smith as Dick's blustery boss. It was "burned off" on "NEW COMEDY SHOWCASE" in August 1960, and forgotten.
At 0:53, why is there two minutes and 47 seconds of kinescope footage when, at that point, the series was videotaped? Was the original videotape of that TIYL episode damaged or partially erased?
SueBeaWho imogene Coca was on Your Show of Shows which starred Sid Caesar. Carl Reiner was a writer/actor. It was brilliant sketch comedy leading the way to shows like Laugh In and SNL.
The question above refers to the young lady videotaped in color following the end of the This Is Your Life episode. Seems it was a family videotape that someone made a copy of, but a short segment of whoever was taped earlier still remained on it for about a minute - at the VERY end. Someone else suggested she may have been the daughter of one of Carl’s friends who were brought on the show to pay tribute to him.
At that time, he was wearing a rug on a regular basis. Years later, Carl was to appear at a testimonial dinner, but his toupee wasn't ready. He visited his good friend George Burns, and asked if he could borrow one of his at the last minute. George graciously agreed, and Carl went to his dinner. After he returned George's dustcap, he asked how the dinner went. "Your hair was a riot", Carl assured him.
I thought they might show Carl's previous girlfriend, the girl Carl almost wanted to marry before he met Estelle (he said in his autobiography) and I guess his other son, Lucas was too young to be shown (he's only a few years younger than me).
If Wikipedia is correct, Lucas may actually be in the episode because he was born in August of 1960, which means that he was present...but well-hidden.
Sometimes I think I'm too smart for my own good......this episode mentions a SUBWAY station at Burnside Ave in The Bronx in 1922......just one small goof.....its not a subway station.......its an EL station.......today a part of the #4 line
Just passed away, 6-29-2020. Heaven is now a funnier place with Carl there. What a wonderful life! We;ll miss you!!!

March 20th is Carl Reiner’s Birthday!
love carl reiner. in his 90's. even with all that smoking.
Smoking on television was very common in those days, even on panel game shows.

And young Meathead @ 20:29!

At the time the comment was made saying he was still alive, he was.

Also Carl had a teacher named Ms. Eisenstadt and so did Rob Petrie.

Dick Van Dyke has since been sober, in recovery from alcohol for decades.

Just realized that the guy sitting next to Reiner in the beginning was actually a ventriloquist who would appear on I've Got a Secret.
YASSSSS!😁
Howard Morris (Ernest T Bass). Carl was always a talented, attractive man.
Howard Morris as Ernest T. Bass was one of my favorites.
The last guy is Ernest T. Bass! LOL
Stan Lee: Welcome home Carl
Carl: Thanks Stan

His son, Robbie is Mike the meathead in ALL IN THE FAMILY !!
He would of course go on to be one of Hollywood's greatest directors.
@@Farrah300 I'm not sure about one of the greatest, but he was a good director.
Three time's is a charm!
Who is the woman after the show ends...at the very end?
Good question! Weird
If you listen closely to her remarks, it seems to me they suggest that she is the daughter of one of the guests on the show.
How did this videotape manage to survive, while the others are kinescopes?
Because this one was videotaped in advance. The "live" episodes (through 1960) were usually preserved on kinnies.
With a rattling sound.
The Jerk is one of the funniest films ever!
Gordon M So is “Enter Laughing”.
.... Difference between....... and Shinola.
Who is the chick at the very end saying hello to everyone??

@Order Random Content - Who is the lady at the end of the tape?
Did Carl Reiner still have his real hair then?
