Applying this on your hand first as a sheer water based product means you lose a lot of potential product and coverage. And something so sheer and light does not need a sponge to go over it again imo leading to even more loss. I have both of these foundations and you get best results applying to the face with fingertips then blending in with a dense brush. I’m definitely in the covergirl zone
I’ve been using the Cover Girl for about two weeks. I really love it! Initially, I use my fingers to blend pigments, then blend (with fingers) onto my face. Then, I press the foundation into my skin with a dry sponge. Looks SO good. I think application makes a huge difference with this product.
I love it!!! and found the best combo -I wanted a little bit more colour to my skin that day so I did a layer of the L'Oréal (?) glotion For some glow, then I used this on top and it was beautiful.
I use the Chanel foundation and I love it. I don’t use foundation every day so it lasts a long time. I don’t like a heavy coverage. So it’s perfect to help your skin look natural. It doesn’t settle in my wrinkles at all. I’ll keep spending $70 since it lasts me about a year. I just wish it didn’t have fragrance

Hi Allie you said there were other skin tints that you could use at a better price point than these in the video. Can you do a video on which skin tints you would recommend. I would love to know.
I have the Chanel one & I adore it despite the price point. I like that it comes with a high end brush. I recommend putting the product directly on the face or brush, not on the back of your hand as you don’t want to lose the pigments. It’s perfect for a no makeup look while visibly blurring evening & brightening the skin. I also tried it on my 58 year old mom & it works brilliantly on her too.
I have the Chanel but I will try the Covergirl as well. I use this Chanel foundation as a touch up at the end of the day. This tint covered my existing foundation and gave me a fresh revitalized look for an after work meal, movie or event. I would love to know if anyone else tried using it like this and did it work for them as well. It was an accidental hack for me and it worked great.

Hello. I bought the Chanel and I love it. I finished the whole bottle and repurchased, which is very unusual for me. I buy it a few shades darker in the summer when I have a tan and it makes yr skin look flawless. New products come out all the time of course but I can see me wearing this for years to come. 😊 Love your channel Allie ❤
I LOVE the Chanel Les Beige. I often combine a regular foundation with the Les Beige. The combo is really nice for my "mature" skin. New topic: Allie, I can't thank you enough (thank you, thank you, thank you...) for recommending the Osea Body Butter and Body Oil. They are so wonderful after a shower. Your channel is my all time favorite, even though it has become quite expensive for me! ❤😂
Chanel came out with a newer version of this that has a smaller round bottle with more coverage. Called water fresh complexion Touch. But same consistency and it’s gorgeous!!! Not suggesting you buy that one, BUT it does have more coverage and is gorgeous on the skin!
I was going to bring this one up as well! Smaller bottle and NO perfume which was the reason I got it in the first place. And I loove it, it feels so light on the skin, but the coverage feels substantial without any oil or heavy consistency, and the color match for a fair neutral skin is brilliant. But people have said these two Chanel foundation are actually quite different. I might just go in store and feel the difference myself now - I am curious xD
i have that one and the waterfresh tint ,both are good. i also use them both if i need more coverage .sometimes 1 pump is even enough on the round bottle coz it has more coverage ,but will not look cakey. the square bottle i like it when i just want to look polish ,but not too made up . I was thinking about picking up the ELF Halo Glow but it was $17 here in Canada... for ELF! I'm so frustrated how these drugstore brands bump up the price on their "dupe" products.

Thank you for highlighting how EXPENSIVE the covergirl foundation is. Of course inflation is a thing, but that price tag is on par with Sephora foundation prices ($20)! Expensive drugstore foundations should not be normalized
You would really not deal with living in Australia. The L'Oreal tinted serum thing is $44.99 full price (about $US30). We still haven't even got that Balm thing yet. Revlon Illuminance is $42.99. The only foundation I can think of you'd get for $US20 at Sephora is LYS. Even Sephora Collection costs more than that here. ELF getting uppity charging $30 for their Charlotte Tilbury rip offs. Covergirl is cheaper but they're not on my radar because they don't bother to bring in the lightest shades. They don't go over 6 shades here.

I have the Rose Inc. foundation in this formula - my Covergirl version will arrive Jan. 21st and I ordered it awhile ago so it's a long wait for it on Amazon. Great review - thank you!
I use a dense, stipple style brush and follow up with a sponge if needed - it's light in coverage. Sometimes I need to pop the pigment bubbles with my finger on the back of my hand before picking up with my brush.
@@catherineelizabeth2108I’ll also give a tip that worked really well for me with the Rose inc tint is to only do downward strokes with my dense foundation brush when applying. I am so excited about this dupe because I have worn the Chanel product since 2017, and now that I'm retired, the price tag is painful. If the Cover Girl is even 90% close, and it sounds like it is, if I can get my hands on it here in Mexico where I'm retired, I will have found my holy grail replacement! Happy dance! Nothing has ever come close to the Chanel for me. Am I 64-year-old skin loves it.
I think you might get more coverage if you do the blending directly on the face, that’s how I’ve seen other influencers do it and it did seem like higher coverage that way
Hi, Allie! I am 60 and have begun to have trouble with my foundation over the last year or two. I’ve tried so many, pretty much all higher end formulas. Everything kept seeming to be too thick and emphasize any dryness and wrinkles😅 I bought the Chanel Water Fresh Tint several months ago and I adore it! Sometimes I add a tiny bit of Dior Forever Glow (or Nars Radiant) and press in with a sponge in the center of my face for a little more coverage, but not usually. I usually use my fingers, because I’m scared I’ll waste it if I blend too much with a brush before applying. I guess I need to give that another try, and maybe buy the full size Chanel brush. I enjoyed your review! I would love to see you try the Watwr Fresh Blush, as well! It’s pricey, too, but it seems like it would last forever. I’m just a little unsure, as I don’t do really well applying cream or liquid blush, as much as I’d like to use them. A lesson in best brushes and application techniques with the watery Chanel blush would be helpful! Thank you! ❤
Imo breaking up the spheres and blending them on back of hand would place most of the coverage and power on the back of the hand. Would love to see them blended on the face directly!
You know what would've been fun? If someone else applied the two skin tints for you, without you knowing which was which...then giving your feedback along the way and finding out at the very end which side wore which product.
I bought this before it went viral... like when it very first came out. The first time I tried it I think it just didn't work well with the primer I was using. So I tried the skindavia primer and of course used a brush to apply it and I really liked it. I'm 58 with dry, mature skin and although it didn't give a great amount of coverage, I was pleased with the way my skin looked. I plan on buying another bottle when I run out of the one I have.
I remember when this Chanel one came out and I wasn't at all interested bc at that time I felt like skin tints didn't have enough coverage for me. Recently when I started hearing about this Covergirl I didn't really remember the Chanel. After hearing ppl raving about the CG (before I started hearing comparisons) I looked for the CG but only saw in 1 store and no lighter shades left. I've since watched a couple comparisons and am really happy seeing you do it. I e loved Chanel foundations for years and actually really enjoy their fragrance in them. Also, lately I've started liking my coverage to be more natural and lighter so I'm surprised that I'm now wanting to pick up the Chanel. While like you said, they're similar enough to go drugstore, and tbh if the comparison was a different brand I probably would but Chanel has always been my favorite high end beauty brand. Tyvm for your thoughts. ❤
I love the Covergirl version. I have not tried the Chanel, but honestly, as a nurse who doesn't want a ton of makeup on, it is a good way to get a bit of coverage.
I love the idea and look of both of these but the Chanel one is definitely out of my price range. I might have to give the Covergirl one a try when I need a new foundation.
I’ve had the Covergirl since mid December. Ive found rubbing the product between my fingers and then apply to face with fingers like skin care works best. Rubbing into the skin seemed to enhance the coverage. A brush didn’t work well, at all.
I've been using the Covergirl shade 10. I have very pale skin, but this shade made me look ghostly white! So, I now mix it with the shade 20, and it's perfect. I have mostly very dry skin. You can put a very light HA water based moisturizer under it, if needed. This stuff makes my face look flawless! It evens out skin tone. The orangey/reddish areas on my face are just gone! My pores are not accentuated. It takes a while to actually set. The color looked a lot better and skin felt a lot better after about 20 minutes. It was not greasy feeling or heavy. It didn't settle into wrinkles or look mottled at all. It looks great even after 9 hours. If it does get oily feeling in your T Zone, you could just use blotting/rice paper. I had perfect, porcelain skin my entire life. After a certain age, that changed. Dry, orange and red spots, large pores. Thid CG tint actually gave me my 20 something skin back! Now that is a miracle in my book. I love this stuff! ❤ (EDIT: Forgot to add that I put it in my palm, mix up the spheres and apply with fingers.)
Allie love your manicure! Since I am 55, I prefer lighter foundations because they are less aging in terms of appearance, IMHO. I would pay $21 for the Covergirl before I would pay $70 for Chanel.
I have the Rose Inc. foundation with the same suspension properties (influenced by Julia Adams), and I really do like that one, if you're looking for something between these two. Of course, now I'm curious and want to try the CG one...
I can’t stop using the Covergirl product. It looks like skin, and it feels and looks fresh and has surprisingly good coverage. Also, on a whim I dabbed a tiny amount on top of my color corrector and concealer (bad dark circles), and it improved the coverage and brightness, but it didn’t look like I had a 3rd layer on at all and there was no caking/creasing, and I feel like I discovered under eye gold.
Drugstore prices are going up but so is the quality, and now there are brands like Moira and Juvia's Place bridging the gap. Maybe it's time to re-think pre-conceived expectations and predjudices based on where you buy something and how much you spend.
Great review, Allie. I wonder how the third contender, Rose Inc. (similar to the Chanel) compares to these two. Have you tried that one? (Added): Chanel also has another similar product that offers more coverage, same price, less volume -- LES BEIGES Water-Fresh Complexion Touch. I wonder how you would rate the two Chanel products compared to the CoverGirl and to Rose, Inc.?
omg yay. I’ve been using the Chanel Les Beige in Light Medium for a few years now, but I always used my fingers to apply. The brush I find eats up a little more of the product even though that’s how Chanel recommends how to use it. I also don’t find any fragrance in the Chanel one, though when I tried the CG one it definitely had a scent in my opinion. I pretty much use a half pump of both formulas and blend with my fingers & it looks amazing, I get so many compliments using these as people think my skin is just naturally healthy looking.
Love the new videos! You will reach 1 million soon ❤ It would be so fun to see you do makeup on your sisters! Then we can see different skin tones, textures, etc. Also a vlog of your typical day!
I bought the Covergirl Essence Foundation between Christmas and New Year's at CVS....I used a coupon and rewards and ended up paying around $11 for it. First application I was like, what the heck is this...and I thought it was emphasizing my texture (59 years old Balanced leaning Dry)....then, I sprayed with one of my loves, the Covergirl's Priming Glow Mist (seriously one of my all time favs).....everything melted together and I thought the Covergirl Essence Foundation got better as I wore it. Thank you Allie for this comparison....it is an interesting product. See ya soon!
I love the Chanel one. I bought it when it first came out. I have dry skin so it’s perfect really. I use especially on summer days. Very light on your skin. Hoping and Praying you get your 1M this year Allie. It is also my goal to get to 1K this year 💜 cheers everyone! Happy New Year
I love this formula and I use the Rose Inc Skin Tint one. It took me a while to figure out but if you use a greasy moisturizer or SPF, because those skin tints are water-based, it makes the pigment not adhere completely to the skin, especially around the nose and smile lines. The tip would be to back down on your skincare prep or use it on those days you just want to look cute but have nowhere to go ahaha
If you have dry skin, you should prep your skin with a good moisturizer yes and maybe avoid these skin tints? go for a hydrating one. I said what I said because oil and water-based products don't mix, or don't last on the skin if not applied properly.
I use and love the Chanel Water Fresh Tint as a moisturizer primer for underneath my regular foundation. It has a blurring effect to my pores and fine lines. I also apply 2 pumps on the back of my hand and use my fingers to apply instead of the brush for a flawless look. I love it and just ordered my 3rd bottle of it. Give it a few days of trying it and you will love it.
I have the cover girl one and the primer, I love it for days that I just want a natural glow to my skin, I have mature, dry skin and it really is a beautiful product, I enjoy it, I bought mine on Amazon before Ulta had it. I use a brush and then bounce a sponge over it, I usually do an extra layer on my cheek area .
I’d like to see more of a comparison for the full ingredient list. I find the drugstore brands of make-up and skincare usually have cheaper fillers etc in them and I find even though they might perform well ultimately my skin feels and looks better when I use high end products.
I actually bought the Covergirl version today before seeing this video. I would never buy the Chanel version because of the price. But, I had major sticker shock for the CG one! 😮 I didn’t realize until I looked at my receipt that it was $21!! I expected it to be like $12 max! But, I do like it on my skin. I’m in a phase of life where I hardly wear much makeup on a day to day basis with three little kids and this works nicely.
I tested the CG today and it’s a nice tinted skincare-forward product that is pretty forgiving with imperfections. Good for my day to day running around - holds up pretty well in humidity - but not to be considered a makeup foundation
I've used and loved Les Beiges for a few years. My current bottle is almost out and I've been rationing it because I'm not ready to spend the money on a new bottle. I hate to abandon my tried and true but I might have to give the covergirl one a try if it'll save me good money. Thanks for doing a comparison!
As much as I absolutely love the Chanel, I must say I actually like the CoverGirl a bit more… I’m a Bartender, and it holds up after an 8+ hour night. It’s definitely worth a try, especially if you can find it on sale.
I only use covergirl aqua smoothers from CG- my dermatologist recommended it, and I’ll still grab it on lazy days over my higher ends. it can be easy to apply I’ve always had trouble with covergirl shades tho
I’d say the cooling effect is because it’s water-based. When it’s on your warm skin, evaporation happens, taking your body heat away as it occurs. Same concept as why sweating cools you and why you’re cold when you get out of a pool on a hot summer day.
The Chanel has been a staple in my make up arsenal. It’s absolutely beautiful on. They also have a blush and bronzer. Have not tried the Cover Girl but willing to give it a go.
Have you tried the Rose Inc. foundation that is like these formulas as well, and how does it compare to these? That is then one I first thought about when I saw the Covergirl promo pic.
Use your fingers to apply the cover girl. Im very picky about foundation...i have oily skin but can have dry spots at the same time and this foundation is REMARKABLE! Might be the best one I've ever tried from the drugstore.
I have the Chanel one and really like using it in the summer for a real fresh skin like appearance. Definitely interested in trying the Covergirl one due to the price.
I've been hoping you would do this video. I've been wanting the Chanel for a long time, but it's very expensive. When I saw the CoverGirl launch, it was an easy purchase. It has been a success for me. Hearing that you think it's a dupe, will help me to not think of the Chanel again.
Allie do you have any suggestions to help me pick the right color of the new Cover Girl Essence Foundation? Is there a chart somewhere that will tell me what color I should get if I am using Ivory in the regular Cover Girl foundation? There seem to be several colors that might work. Given the price of this new foundation, I'm trying not to buy several wrong colors before I get the right one. Thanks for your help.
I had the same problem. Shade 10 is way too light under normal lighting. (Like ghostly pale.) But next shade (20) was too dark. So, I mix them and it's perfect. I also wear the Ivory shade you do. Try the 10 first. If it's too light, try the 20, or mix like I do. This stuff is amazing! Just amazing. You will not be disappointed.
I’m not feeling compelled to buy the Chanel version due to the price but may give the Covergirl one a try because the consistency of it intrigues me. Thanks Allie for a great comparison video. Best wishes on achieving your goal for 1 million subscribers too!! 😍
I absolutely LOVE the Cover Girl!!! And I apply with my hands exactly the same way I apply my serums or moisturizer. I’ve used it every day for almost 3 weeks now and it’s PERFECTION on my very dry skin in this extremely cold weather in northern Indiana.
I have that Chanel one in the newer version tho that comes in a glass rounded bottle similar to that cover girl packaging and I have to say that its my favorite complexion product of all time! it has a bit more coverage than this original one you reviewed, it wears so beautifully for hours upon hours! I get so many compliments on my skin every time I wear it
Chanel has two water based foundations. The round bottle you’re talking about has more coverage than the square bottle. I alternate between the two depending on the look I’m going for

I feel like it looks more evenly applied and makes my skin look a little better than when I swipe in all different directions
I actually like the CoverGirl a bit more… I found it on Amazon, if they ship to Mexico.
Thanks for sharing!
I don't even wear foundation but Miss Allie Glines can make me watch anything ❤
Thanks for watching!! 🥹💕
I have both and will go covergirl from now on due to the savings. They are also great as a primer.
A brush didn’t work well, at all.
good to know, thanks
At 61, I agree with you. Less is more
I LOVE this lighting. I can see more detail.
I have the Rose Inc. foundation with the same suspension properties (influenced by Julia Adams), and I really do like that one, if you're looking for something between these two. Of course, now I'm curious and want to try the CG one...
I have both the Chanel & CoverGirl, but now I want to try the Rose Inc 😂
Your new video production design is amazing, such an upgrade! 😍❤️
Thank you SO much!! 💕❤️
Brilliant idea! ❤
Love the new system of ranking and love all the new editing.
Great breakdown of both foundations- I agree with you totally. Thanks
Drugstore prices are going up but so is the quality, and now there are brands like Moira and Juvia's Place bridging the gap. Maybe it's time to re-think pre-conceived expectations and predjudices based on where you buy something and how much you spend.
Well said!
Or it's capitalist profit-gouging once Tiktok declares something is viral.
Paying $AU33.22 for 71% water with hardly any coverage from Covergirl with their rubbish shade range is a no from me dawg.
Buying *any* skin tint and expecting more than minimal coverage is a no from me.
Thanks Allie! This was exactly what I needed to see!
Im a Beauty consultant and bought this even though i hate CoverGirl. It's amazing!!! Its full coverage
This was a fantastic comparison. I want to try BOTH! ❤️
The Rose Inc Skin Enhance Skin Tint Foundation is similar to both of these, and it's literally the best thing I've ever used for skin coverage.
Can we just acknowledge how beautiful your natural skin without makeup is❤❤❤
I’d definitely pay $21 for this! I’m a sheer coverage girl but it’s so hard to find a true sheer coverage/tint base product
Happy New Year
Me too! It's my absolute favorite.
You have dry skin in those areas and reducing skincare/prep is the opposite of what you should do, actually
I got my Effortless Lips yesterday and I love them! Also, Rose Inc also has this type of complexion product.
Love the new camera! Love the new cut-aways! Love the labeling! Love you, Allie!😘💋💋
I like that you compared this to the Chanel one and gave an honest opinion about it being overhyped.
I only use covergirl aqua smoothers from CG- my dermatologist recommended it, and I’ll still grab it on lazy days over my higher ends. it can be easy to apply I’ve always had trouble with covergirl shades tho
I'll have to try it! Why does your doctor recommend it?
The chanel is worth every penny. I love it
I’d say the cooling effect is because it’s water-based. When it’s on your warm skin, evaporation happens, taking your body heat away as it occurs. Same concept as why sweating cools you and why you’re cold when you get out of a pool on a hot summer day.
I have the Chanel one, and I like it, but I'm definitely excited to try a more affordable option! Thanks for sharing.
The Chanel has been a staple in my make up arsenal. It’s absolutely beautiful on. They also have a blush and bronzer. Have not tried the Cover Girl but willing to give it a go.
I just bought mine today. I can’t wait to try it! I love skin tints and cc cream formulas for day to day wear.
Thank you for this comparison!! Also, what were you wearing on your lips when you first applied the rest of your makeup up?! It was STUNNING! 😍
The newer Chanel water fresh complexion touch is the amped up version of this Chanel. It has more coverage. That’s the one I use and I love it.
Have you ever tried the IL Makiage foundation? I would love to see your thoughts on if it is worth the price
I’ve tried Rose Inc. Same premise. Loved it. But steep also at $49.
I’m not feeling compelled to buy the Chanel version due to the price but may give the Covergirl one a try because the consistency of it intrigues me. Thanks Allie for a great comparison video. Best wishes on achieving your goal for 1 million subscribers too!! 😍
I would be curious how the Cover Girl would do if you used the Chanel brush. Thanks Allie.
I alternate between the two depending on the look I’m going for
Great review and both products looked lovely on you. Thanks!
The Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals foundation is the OG in this category, and still the best.
Hi, I just found your channel I don’t really wear foundation, but since this is more of a skin tint, I might try the covergirl. By the way, I love your trio of lip colors. I can’t decide which ones they’re all beautiful. Might get all three, I love that they are buildable. Thank you for sharing..
I tried this and was skeptical but as it dried I used a spong and redid some spots, it look like my real skin and looks gorgeous. I could not believe how well it performed. By evening it looked the same but we will see in the heat what it does
I love the Cover girl especially with a tinted SPF! Nice and glowy and serum-y
I’d love to see if the cover girl is also a dupe for the Rose Inc version as well. I have that one and love it but have wanted to compare.
I Love this foundation essence!! I also love using as a primer or a light skin tint under my Laura Gellers powder foundation. I also think you should try with your normal routine of powder and setting spray. Its just a super fun product to play around with. It's my most reached for at the moment, because my skin is super dry right now from the winter. XOXO 😘
I have been using the Chanel brand and I love it. I do have extremely dry skin. I am definitely going to try the cover girl brand. Thank you for sharing.
Hello! Thanks! I went to the description box to see what product you used to set it and the lip combo, but I couldn't find it.
How do you compare the Cover Girl with the Maybelline Super Stay 24h skin tint? Are tjey similar?
Thanks. Blessings
This was SUPER helpful; thanks as always Allie! ❤
I really love your lashes in this video! What mascara are you using?
Best review I’ve sent yet for these products. Thanks Allie!
Yayyy!! ❤️ Thank YOU for watching!! 💕
Skin tints r right up my alley. I use Max and Tint Edol Lancome Skin tints. I'm going to try the Cover Girl. Thanks for introducing them.
I use the chanel one as a primer. It's no coverage on my very horrible skin, but it seems perfecting if that makes sense.
