Christianity was born in Asia. It was the largest religion in Southwest Asia for centuries until various Islamic Empires reduced it to a minority religion. (Also because of Christian emigration).
It was also the largest minority religion throughout the rest of Asia before and during European colonialism.
After independence and the 70s Islamic revolution, Christianity in the form of Orthodoxy, Catholicism and European Protestantism started to decline.
American involvement has led to the growth of American Protestantism such as the Baptists, Pentecostalism, Mormonism, Jehovas Witnesses etc.
Today there is only 7 Christian majority nations left in Asia:
- Cyprus (Orthodox) threatened by Turkey
- Armenia (Orthodox) threatened by Azerbaijan
- Georgia (Orthodox) threatened by Russia
- Russian Federation (Orthodox)
- East Timor (Catholic) threatened by Indonesia
- The Philippines (Catholic)
- Papua New Guinea (Protestant) threatened by Indonesia
This means that 5 out of 7 Christian nations face an existential crisis.
