A pelican crossing is the only traffic light controlled crossing that has a flashing amber light phase, a zebra crossing also has flashing amber lights but it’s not controlled by traffic lights, flashing amber lights have a few different meanings, 2 flashing amber lights on a little black box warns of children likely to be crossing the road to or from school or a supervised cattle crossing, flashing amber lights on motorway signs warn of a hazard ahead, on old style motorways you might see 2 flashing amber lights at the side of the carriageway, that means that there is a hazard ahead and you shouldn’t exceed a speed of 30mph until you have passed the hazard, an amber traffic light and an amber light on a level crossing means stop if it’s safe to do so, the flashing amber light at a zebra crossing and pelican crossing means give way to any pedestrians crossing the road.

It is extremely useful. We all know it when we try and cross a road but the theory driving test tries to catch people out and asks strangely worded questions and this video helps you prepare for it
