Be careful with your numbers. Whatnot charges 8% commission + 2.9% processing fee + $.30/transaction. Love how you break down it all for new people as I've done my research and going live tomorrow for my first show, but again you're missing the 2.9% processing fee. Good luck with future shows!
Before I started selling at Whatnot, I was a customer and I would watch people bid up a $1 start to $10 or more. I thought to myself I could do this. So I did and what did I find out? Well, it is not good to start everything at $1. I know that's what people like but you're not making any type of profit. The lowest I will start a bid is $2. Unfortunately, in my case, it will go for that price more often than not.
Whatnot is largely a social selling platform. Building the following is an essential part of it. I agree $1 with no followers is a death trap. I always price based on how many people are in the show. I can easily adjust as I go. Less than 20 viewers we do $5 20-40 viewers we do $3 and over 40 we go to $1 starts. With less followers you should expect whatever you start is what it will sell for if at all.
Have you tried doing a $2 C P F format for a show? I have been in shows where u show an item ppl type C to claim an item and have it put into a stack. First person to type C gets the item. If 2 or multiple ppl want the item they have to say if they want to pass on the item to the first person or fight for the item in an auction. And u keep going allowing ur buyers to build up a stack of items and then when they are ready to check out u would do one auction sale for all of their claimed items. So if their pile had 10 claimed items u would set the auction for $20 and tell others not to bid. This way you would only pay 30 cents on the one transaction of $20 rather than 30 cents for every individual sale of the 10 items the person bought from you.
@@eagleeye2427 P would be for pass. So if two ppl claim the same item one of them can decide to pass on the item to the other person. F stands for fight. If multiple ppl claim an item and no one wants to pass on it so one person can have it then you start an auction for tht item. I have not done shows but I have been in on what not streams using this method when the start price for items are low and have bought several items this way.
I agree with you. I started selling on Whatnot because i hate listing and taking picture's. This way i can get rid of the things faster. You need to list things a lot cheaper to get people to buy unless you have a lot of followers. More expensive items I list on Mercari and Ebay. Now I've been doing Mystery shows because they're fun.
@@HustleSlow I've been doing mystery doll shows. The first show I sold out before the show started with buy it now. The second show was too expensive, so i didnt sell. Third show I did auction, took 3 hours to sell out. But the people on there said they had fun.
This is so informative! I just did my first show and think it went really well. I have a lot of tweaking to do and still a lot of learning but I’m like u, I do this part time and it’s getting very tiring to list, store, pay for multi platform software, respond to offers, package and ship plus some u have to store forever to finally end up making ten bucks lol. I would much rather turn and burn since my favorite part is sourcing. I have been wondering how I was going to keep track of everything so I think I will make this same spreadsheet. I have been using the reseller spreadsheet from Jason Hayes but I didn’t know how to incorporate whatnot. Also u r right, I need to add some buy it now items too! Thank u for your story and I am watching to see how it goes 😊
Thanks for watching! It's funny, I haven't done a sale in over a month and I've sold a few items via the buy it now from people just searching on whatnot!
I sell EBay, Posh, Depop and Mercari. I am looking at whatnot because I do buy on whatnot to resell. It’s just intimidating to think about doing a live show. Thx for the breakdown of how it went for you. I too have items I would love to just get rid of instead of taking the time to list them. Might need to give it a try.
I did Whatnot for a few months. I realized that poeple who sell New stuff are the big sellers. The time to source, clean, ship was not worth it. I can spend that time finding high ASP items and make more money.
What a great informative video. I loved hearing how you have done. You're going to do great! Two months in is just the beginning. I'd like to do the sweet spot as well with listing and lives. I've only done two lives on Posh and wow, it's exhausting! LOL I'm not sure how consistent I can be with it... I love hearing about your journey!
New sub here. Spreadsheet is similar to mine, reseller setup for sure. Have you ever tried auctions on your TH-cam Channel?? It's what I do, besides listing. I have no desire to try WhatNot. Auctions on TH-cam are so easy. How's WhatNot working for you today?
I’ve been trying whatnot since June. It’s been great but not hugely profitable for me. Whatnot is great for moving large volumes rather than holding it for months. Also I found the social aspect of whatnot is super important to understand. Hanging out in other hats bigger and same size sellers. Also doing sponsor giveaway on other shows instead of promoting. Promoting didn’t bring enough people to warrant the cost for me personally. The same money spent in other bigger sellers show doing a sponsored giveaway brought more buyers to my channel. I spend 1 hour each day going to other shows chatting and supporting their shows. This helped me grow my own shows more than promoting the show. Also participating in raid trains gives you exposure to help grow faster. I do two or three a month and it has helped every time. Networking with other sellers especially bigger ones in my category (storage units ) helped me grow faster than many other sellers I’ve seen. Although it’s not hugely profitable at first it can be profitable and help move large quantities that would take months to sell elsewhere
Lots of great tips and I'm so happy it's working for you! I did spend lots of time at shows too but man, I need to spend less time on my phone not more 😂 plus I'd end up buying stuff and there goes any profit I made!
Thank you for your video. You saved me a lot of time and money. It’s ridiculous that you have to pay $10 to get exposure. They should rotate the sellers (somehow) to be fair, but I guess they just want to make money, too. Also, are people there to win things or are they there to buy things? It’s sad that you have to bribe them to stay in the show. I think I’m going to try the swap meet to see what happens, and in person selling. The eBay listings are a pain, but after listening to your spreadsheet details, I think I make more money on eBay per item than I would if I sold it very cheaply on Whatnot. I’m no expert, but it looks like it’s worth it to put in the effort of doing the listings. Also, I’ve been lazy and not using a spreadsheet, but you made me realize that I need to do that so I can actually see all the details and make decisions from it. It would be nice if eBay would find a way of making the listings easy. Again, thank you so much for your video.
To be effective, you have to be ON camera. You have to "dress up" and be camera ready. And it's difficult to get started on the site IMO. I've tried 3 times and had to delete my account each time because it's really a MOBILE app. You can't get pass "go" without downloading the app. So if you're on a laptop/desktop computer -- forget it.
What kind of things are give aways? Just wondering whats universal enough. Cause i dont mind giving away stuff, cause i get stuff thats basically free. But if it is clothes that wouldn't fit i dont see them wanting it
I don't think it's worth it to sell stuff for a couple of £ or $'s because of the fees. I had the same problem with ebay, but they've now scrapped the fees which is better. Hope other apps and sites follow suit.
Hmm, as a buyer and seller with experience it is clear that the profit is not there yet. If you think it will get better then go, on but as long as you are selling items at such low proft, it is too much effort for the low profit. It is not only the time being live selling, it is the shipping too. So far I am not impressed, as long as Whatnot has existed, they are advancing too slow on acquiring buyers.
Hey, Your video is amazing! But a few tweaks can improve the quality of videos, and thumbnails, and Engagement will be 3x-5x. What do you think let me know?
