    Really like how much respect Jerry gives his much lower rated opponents (1390 in this case). He doesn't go for cheap tactics or a crazy/unsound attack, but plays and analyses as if he's playing a master.

    Dear Jerry, I "learned how the pieces move" as a kid and lost chess for years. Now I'm in my 30's and have become interested in chess again. A few months ago an Agadmator video randomly showed up in my recommended feed. He INSTANTLY got me hooked on chess again and I credit him for that. But after about a month of faithfully sponging up only Agadmator videos I decided to see what else was out there in the wide world of TH-cam. Found other great teachers like Mato, and then I found your channel. Now I really love watching your channel among a few others. It's all new and exciting for me - there was no internet/technology when I encountered chess as a kid in the 90's. So yeah, I am an adult beginner - don't know what rating I would be but I can just beat Magnus age 8. Too scared to try age 9 yet still, I'm getting better at playing the younger ages. It's just very fun being a beginner and learning about/admiring great chess players of both past and present. Your style is educational and interesting and I thoroughly enjoy your content. Thank you Jerry for making chess interesting for me! I wish you the all the best in 2018.

      +BMessemer Great to read that. If you’re looking to learn step by step, there’s a series Beginner to Chess Master I’m working on.

      Hi Jerry, yes, a step by step method would be great. I just looked up this series on your channel and I will watch and study them all! Thank you for the suggestion.

    ~1700 at best here. I can relate to your moves in almost all the openings and throughout most of the middlegame; it’s when you launch into endgame at bullet pace that you lose me.
    In any case thanks for ALL your commentary. I sometimes wonder if you sacrifice accuracy and time in the tourneys for it?

    Everybody knows Jerry.
    52:53 Jerry attempts a castle of his queen.
    "I'm cool with double b-pawns, 'cause my rook will be happy."
    Fun drinking game: every time Jerry uses the sunglasses emoji, buy a chess set and throw it into a bonfire.

    Hey Jerry, are you going to review that AlphaZero game where AZ sacs the exchange in order to lock Stockfish's queen in the corner? Amazing stuff, especially after watching it neutralize bishops in its other games.
    Or did you review it already and I missed it?

  • @davidgeorge6253
    @davidgeorge6253 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    at 34:41, knight x f7 pawn, with winning attack was missed and then you said they were 'defending with precision. ', or did I miss something?

    • @animerandomness
      @animerandomness 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking rook on f1 takes f7 with check. Rook recaptures, knight recaptures. The light-squared is defending from a2. Knight takes would also be throwing a punch at the queen. There is nowhere the queen can move to defend h6, so if the queen moves, it doesn't seem to matter where she goes. Jerry's queen can take h6 with check. If I'm seeing it correctly, it's mate in 1 if the king backs up, and it's mate in 1 if the king moves forward. Kg8 is met with Qh8 with mate, and if Kf6, rook to f1 is mate. So in that case, if black tries to avoid a mating sequence, the only way to do so that I could involves sacrificing the queen. This variation seems to be the forcing that I could think of. Otherwise, if the rook takes f7 with check, and the king goes to h8 to try to avoid that sequence and a discovered check sequence, in that position, Rh7 also = mate. gg

    Nice tournament performance as always. You might have forgotten about your bishop on a2 in the grand prix game, looks like Nxf7 would have been crushing (34:40).

    22:48, after Ree8, there was a tactic for white - Rxh3, and after white retakes with the rook (Rxh3), a knight could fork the king and queen on g4.

    Jerry! Just think about this one move at 34:41 that caught my eyes. What if you consider Rxf7? Or even Nxf7 right away? Forcing the black rook to take otherwise you would give mate. Peace to all. And have a nice year full of love and chess.

      I'm quite sure he was. Almost all his moves were 4-5 secs and were decent, but when he was down on time, as Jerry said, quality dropped a lot. The lack of "pre-moves" on very obvious moves, I think gave it away as well. I would bet on an engine not set on top difficulty.

      I actually prefer 5-minute games. I'm not a good chess player and it's difficult for me to follow the action in 3-0 games. My favorite, though, is classical- Jerry articulates his principles and hypotheses in much greater detail when he has the time. It's the hi-def version of commentary!
