She didn’t kill all the witches. I think this is inspired by the first book in the Darth Bane trilogy. Bane uses a dark side ritual on Ruusan, harnessing the collective power of many Sith Lords. In hopes of burning the forests where the Army of Light is hiding. Lord Kaan breaks the connection to the ritual. Bane was pulling energy from the other Sith. When the connection was broken, the weaker Sith Lords basically fainted and regained consciousness. I think the witches passed out when the ritual was broken. Smoke inhalation got um. I don’t know 🤷‍♂️

another youtuber brought up how this show exists in the gray and i totally agree. there is no all bad or all good character. everyone did what they thought was best with the information they had. mother aniseya invading tobin's mind was messed up, but the jedi were absolutely in the wrong to just barge into their home. esp when they have a (false) reputation of stealing children. mother koril showed a violent desperation to protect her kids, but she put mae in a really messed up position in the process and it quickly got out of hand. if sol and torbin had been correct, their actions would've been honorable. they thought those kids were in danger and immediately got active. but not taking indara's advice to stop and think led to them jumping to dangerous conclusions without solid proof and turning a catastrophe into a tragedy. and i like that!!
i also love victoria monét singing the outro song and have had it on repeat since i watched the ep.

Thanks to Adam, Hector and Agustin! 🌑 The "we must be sacrificed" misquote little 'Mae' relayed to 'Indara' and 'Sol' had a huge impact. They literally thought the girls were in mortal danger. 'Aniseya' actually said, "It is about sacrificing a *part* of ourselves". 🔸 It's also wild to learn that 'Sol' was imposing his own wants (to have a Padawan... even though he might not be ready) onto the situation. He even almost lost his temper on 'Indara' at the end. That shows a very un-Jedi-like conflict that adds to his motivations.

"Someday those noble intentions you all have will destroy every Jedi in the galaxy" It took me a while to realize that the clone wars were filled with the noble (or seemingly noble) intentions of the Jedi to support a clone army, and those heroic intentions to chase after bad guys did empower Palpatine to destroy almost every Jedi. Similar to how Sol's heroic intentions eventually led to saving no one and bringing overwhelming tragedy to Mae and Osha.

THANK YOU GENTLEMEN SO MUCH!!!! There are some very good reactors I have followed who have been OPEN to this show and have had positive things to say, but they are still nitpicking this episode and complaining that it's "too convenient" an explanation for the fire and they are missing the fact that Sol is only seeing very specific little snippets of the girls; a harsh woman being physical with them in the woods, literally pulling them along back to the structure; another woman raising her voice at them and "attacking" (he totally missed the fact that they were being brats, fighting with each other while their mother was TRYING to instruct them); more witches preparing for some kind of witchy ceremony... it looks bad. If a social worker had seen this when observing kids in a home, we'd expect them to go in there and investigate, talk to the kids to make sure they are ok.
And while it annoys TF outta me that because of Dave Filoni only highlighting one faction of the witches of Dathomir, EVERYBODY hears "witch" and automatically thinks "Nightsisters," at least one of the writers on this show decided to use that and say "yeah, when someone hears that word, they automatically think evil spooky Nightsisters," exposing the prejudices Torbin holds, and maybe Sol too. If the witches are preparing a ceremony, then it MUST be for evil purposes, right? So we have to go save those kids.
And they are still nitpicking the fire, even though we clearly see it got out of Mae's control, it was an oil lamp that sparked wiring, this is an old mining facility so whatever they were mining COULD have left residue on the stone and it could be highly flammable. (The Centralia mine fire is a coal-seam fire which has been burning in the labyrinth of abandoned coal mines underneath the borough of Centralia, Pennsylvania, United States, since at least May 27, 1962, and in 2006, it was reported that it is expected to do so for another 250 years.) Electrical fires can be devastating, even in old stone houses. Either way, is this REALLY the thing to focus on?
I appreciate that you gents are having thoughtful discussions while not beating the show up. I consider myself a Super Fan, I've been in this more than 45 years, I know all kinds of nerdy lore about the OT and the EU, not so much about the prequels (to me it just felt like George took all the heart out of the story) but I don't dis other people for liking other parts of the franchise. Lately it has become SO toxic with people pissed off that this or that character doesn't conform to their idea of who she/he/they/it are, and everybody is SO convinced that they would write a better story or make a better TV show. I've gotten to the point where I say I'd like to see their student film portfolios and/or their AO3/Fanfic.com pages to see the years' worth of stories they have written. What, you don't have one? I do. Been writing SW fanfic for 30 years man, what have you done with all YOUR story ideas? Hell, I was conviced LFL had my house bugged because I'd write a fanfic about, say, the first female Imperial Admiral, and 6 - 9 months later an EU book would come out using my ideas, in this case introducing us to Admiral Daala (though, I _will_ say that unlike Kevin J. Anderson's version, my Imp Admiral wasn't an idiot who slept with Tarkin to get the job, lol).
Anyway, TL;DR, I appreciate you and I thank you for your comments at the end of this vid. We need to get toxicity and possessiveness out of this fandom and EVERY fandom. Likes get back to a point where being a fan means you ENJOY a thing.

People think that Sol is out of character in this episode, but this is Sol 16 years ago, more reckless, insecure, not yet tempered by the wisdom of experience or restrained by regret. The main issues with the story wasn't what happened, but what they didn't show:
Both Sol and Torbin's motivations weren't fleshed out enough. Clearly there was more going on that we needed to know about for both of them. The script alluded to Sol being restless and insecure about not yet having a padawan, and this desperation to prove himself or find meaning as a Jedi (his frustration with the Jedi council for not seeing him as worthy of being a master/having a padawan?) made him make brash choices and false assumptions that suited what he wanted. This would explain how he could have convinced himself, in the urgency and confusion, that the twins' needed protecting from their mother.
Torbin clearly had deeper reasons for wanting to return to Coruscant. If they'd only given the audience insight into some personal pull, for example perhaps someone he loved was ill or in trouble back home, and he needed to get back to them. This would further comment on the flaws of the Jedi for making the members of their order conceal their emotional attachments, and the harmful consequences of this.
I honestly think that everything else in the episode made sense (the other witches didn't necessarily die from being severed from their spell). But making us fill in the missing pieces ourselves is arguably just as bad writing as writing pieces that don't fit.

That's what's great with this show: you get to see other angles and it's terrific
All of the blind horses' behinds can go live in a cave if you hate it so much

You guys are some of the best reactors. You all have actual in-depth thought about the concepts that this show is trying to convey. It is frustrating to see a few other well-known Star Wars reactors fall victim to the ridiculous criticism of what Star Wars is and what “it should be”. for those thankfully few but loud everything has to stay the same as the older movies or it’s garbage. I love Star Wars and anything that is Star Wars, and I can also appreciate what they’re trying to do in branching out on all the concepts in the Star Wars universe. There are quite a few fake Star Wars fans that just want things to be only the way they see it fit. 🤦🏻‍♂️
Keep up the great work gentlemen! 👊🏼

You mentioned one common, recurring criticism from "fans": breaking cannon. I remind them that George Lucas "broke" cannon every time he tinkered with the original trilogy. Han shot first. Luke and Leia being siblings after the infamous kiss. Leia saying that she remembers her mother being sad. Need I go on? Love your stuff fellas. Keep keeping it real.

Wookies have retractable claws that they can only use for climbing. If they use them in battle they are call "Mad Claws" and are expelled from their tribe. So Kelnacca has no home and his honor stripped from him. His connection was severed from the Coven, but they are still in there driving him mad.
I still think he allowed Qimir to kill him to end his pain.

The only truly innocent one in the party was Kelnacca -- Torbin's homesickness amplified by fear from the witches was the catalyst for the events, the body count was from Sol and Indara (assuming she did kill the coven) and the coverup from the Council was Indara's decision. The only one who was using their brain however was Indara. But poor Kelnacca man he was just vibin. Loved his rampage scene though, wish it was longer.
Sol I still love you but if in the finale Osha and/or Mae kill you, ngl I will root for their success lol I'll miss you but you will have deserved it.

To Adam's point about Jedi being human and making mistakes despite their dogma, just think of another good example with Obi-Wan. In many ways he was very dogmatic, we see this so often in the Clone Wars, where Anakin wants to take one path but Obi-Wan reigns him in, quoting some aspect of Jedi teachings... yet despite his dogmatism he does not step in or reveal to the Jedi Council the extent of Anakin's relationship with Obi-Wan. We see repeatedly in the Clone Wars, and even some in Episode 3 that Obi-Wan clearly knew that there was at least a relationship there that according to the Jedi code should not have existed. And Obi-Wan's choice in that instance ended up being so critical in that Anakin's relationship with Padme made it so much easier for Palpatine to manipulate and corrupt him.

Discussing is okay, but in the Internet, especially here on YT, respect to different thoughts is gone. I am a huge Star Wars-Fan from Germany, I saw the first movies in the cinema directly. Maybe because of my age I am a Little Bit more flexible😊Hope some day it will change to a better. Guys, Go on like this.

A team of surveyors/researchers are assigned to sweep through a peculiar location and wonders how to solve the mystery as to how and why it's like it is
Soon, they come across a surprise and want to investigate THAT instead
When the lines of morality start getting blurred, their superiors tell them to mind their own affairs and leave the inhabitants alone (the Prime Directive)
Orders are disobeyed and cause trouble that evolves into mayhem and chaos that will ripple throughout their history, directly or indirectly

It gives extra context on why Baylan fell - he liked the idea of the Jedi but the not the reality and, "the Jedi legacy is death and destruction"- true, even if that is not the intent. The counter to that is whilst that might be true his and Qimir's (also a fallen Jedi) responses seems nihilistic at best.

I have mixed feelings about the show but overall i certainly don't think it's the worst SW thing ever as many so-called fans have said. It had a lot of potential telling a story in an era of SW we hadn't seen in live action. did it fully live up to that potential? Not really, it dropped the ball in a few places, but it also had a lot of good things going. I think it deserves the chance to improve on the execution in a second season if the last episode is ends in a way that allows for that story to continue. Also, the wookie jedi fight is one of the best things I've seen in SW, if i had to pick one thing this show did great, it's the fighting.

I agree. I think the show was trying to do/be too many things given episode and season length. Trying to be a mystery, and a critique of the Jedi, and a character study of sorts; is a tall task for 8 episodes at only half an hour. Had they maybe just told the story more linearly instead of a mystery via withholding story from the audience with flashbacks probably would have flowed better and focused the story more on the critiques and characters.

I just want to say I'm one of the three soundtrack nerds on the channel who also looks forward to the soundtrack release for every show :) I'm low key obsessed with Star Wars soundtracks (and Williams soundtracks, and scores in general) and also collect Star Wars music from movies, shows, video games and other sources. That includes a large collection of all the diegetic music in Star Wars - there actually are albums of things like the Jedi Survivor bar music, the Oga's Cantina music and Gaya's album from the Starcruiser, plus plenty of other places in the shows/movies. (And yes I do have some rips of the Holiday Special music, haha). I've really enjoyed the score so far and it really does have a distinct prequel vibe to it (Kylo's theme aside!). I'm not really sure how I feel about the end credits song though. I could definitely see it as a lounge/cantina song in world, but playing over the credits, I don't know if it worked for me or not (plus the song isn't totally my preferred genre).
As for the rest, this episode was almost painful to watch because there were so many places disaster could have been averted. Overall the Jedi come off as overzealous social workers, BUT I do kinda wonder what the witches had planned and if there was something more sinister involved and that is WHY Aniesya was willing to let her go with the Jedi. Like, it's one thing to say 'it's what she wanted', but she's 8. If my 8 year old wanted to join the circus I'd say hell no, even if they legitimately wanted to. But I wonder if she had other reasons for being willing to send her away.
I don't dislike TLJ BUT - one thing I do wish we had seen in the overall narrative and that you kind of touch on is how BAD the Jedi are at dealing with their emotions when they DO crop up. In some ways Sol is proving the Jedi right in that by getting himself overly attached, he wasn't able to make a clear decision. I also don't think Qui Gon was wrong per se to let Anakin come with him. But then they didn't know how to handle it, and I really wish we'd gotten a chance to see Luke figure out a better way as he became disillusioned with the Jedi, especially given that his attachments and compassion/love ARE what helped save the galaxy. That's one thing I still feel the sequels kind of shortchanged us on.

Can we acknowledge that the Witches were definitely tapping into the dark side of the force ("good girl, get angry"). They might not interpret it as such but the Jedi would. Also, they say they are not part of the Republic but is this a bit like Sovereign Citizens declaring they are independant of the country they are living in? Finally, the Jedi seem to be like cops/social services in the High Republic (there is no military at this time), the Witches' response was super aggressive (invading Tobin's mind immediately, suggesting the Jedi be killed before the can report back) and hardly likely to result in being left alone.

I love Andor, I grew up with the Original Trilogy, but The Acolyte reignited my passion for Star Wars in an way that the Sequel Trilogy didn’t, despite how much surreal of a movie theater experience The Force Awakens was or how much I enjoyed The Last Jedi. Being critical is *ONE* thing, but the angry whining ain't worth my time or brain space. They seem to want an easy little story, not use any effort in dealing with the different story lines...or women in leading roles (with *Leia* being the exception), or minorities in major roles in the later installments.
Also...the word *'woke'* has taken a brutal beating after being co-opted. Poor word must be *exhausted* from carrying such an unwanted load.

That English actor whose accent you lot made fun of represents Luke Skywalker who managed to whine through two films from Tatooine, to this guardians, to Obi Wan Kenobi, to Dagobah to Yoda. Luke Skywalker aptly described what he thought of Tatooine and he left Yoda to go to Cloud City despite Yoda and Obi Wan advising not to do so. Torbin only left one Master to go Witch hunting.
