I love how you consistently give us the example of the mechanics when starting from square one and not just show what the end result looks like. Most TH-cam trainers are great at explaining what they are looking to accomplish but forget to step back to the VERY VERY beginning (like eating out of the hand). Thanks for your videos!

Since learning from our mistakes, I would say she is in an excellent place, but hand feeding during training really could have made life a whole lot easier during the shaping/basic obedience phase. Oh well, we will do this rigorously with our next puppy!

Should the dog have eye contact with you and do the command to get the reward? I believe that is the reason you have the treats by your eyes/ face area. In other words command, dog sits but doesn't make eye contact with you. Maybe because you don't have the treat near your eyes but he still sits. Then still reward? Thanks for the videos they're great!

    • @AndyKrueger

(Will probably subscribe to patreon when given the chance) im not sure how often you reply to comments but... my husband and i have 3 dogs. 1 german shepherd, a german shepherd belgian mal, and recently recieved a 10 month old full blood belgian mal (original owner passed on) we have been allowing him to acclimate to the other animals and new household for a few weeks now. He has taken a liking to me since day 1, so we decided ill be the one to train and work with him. Any tips on that since he is a little older? Our other dogs know some german commands, should i stick with german with him or could i try something different with him? (Wasnt sure if thatd mess up him or the other dogs if he had different commands) they do understand english as is.

What do you think of using the “break” command instead of “free”? I watch Tom Davis sometimes, and he uses break. To me, I could see break being more for letting the dog act naturally in a situation where they are least likely to do anything wrong, but free could be a more commonly used release command to get them out of a position.

    • @AndyKrueger

The word is certainly personal preference! I have no problem with break, but it is what you make it. The dog will respond according to their training rather than the sound of the actual word 🙏🏼

Thanks! Teach stand from a sit. Push in and under the dogs chin and their back legs will pop up without their front feet moving.
Go back to shorter downs with huge jackpots frequently. I always release by throwing a toy behind them. This will keep them in the mindset to be prepared to spring up at any second. Don’t move too fast in the duration of time, once the down is perfect, adding chunks of time is easy 👍🏻

My thought is to work on Yes/Good engagement for a couple days, then as that tightens up, move on to the rest of the commands individually.
