I studied "The Harlem Renaissance " although I was born and raised in the South.
I was intrigued by the poetry of Langston Hughes. A dear friend introduced me to this prolific writer's book 📖 years ago...
"Their Eyes Were Watching God". It is mythical very well written in the 20's era. One of my favourite of books indeed. The movie [TEWWG ]2004'was so good. Excellent documentary on Ms. Zora Neale Hurston.

I’ve always loved to read and write. It was because of author Terry McMillan that I was first inspired to read the works of Zora Neale Hurston some 30 yrs ago and I’m glad I did 💖💖

Thank you, Miss Lucy Ryan*, Miss Brown, Miss Ayers, Miss Young, and Miss Bush for introducing me and the rest of your classes to not only ZNH, but many of pioneers of the African Diaspora. #WhenTeachersGaveADamn

This work for radio is so rich and beautiful - for one, the mostly Black women scholars and writers and advocates and actors-along with Robert Hemenway who wrote the first biography-who have done and have been doing the work on Hurston forever are relied on and called on to speak. Hooray! (And too, we're not stuck with still another cultural excursion via the honorable Henry Louis Gates.) Thank you Aron Myers!
The other factor that's most moving for me is the music - there's an original soundtrack, beautifully adapting the songs Hurston collected and sang, alongside classic recordings of Hurston herself, and the great early performance by Ruby Dee. This is really going the long extra mile with utmost respect and depth and honor. I haven't tracked down the musician/s yet. There oughta be an album of their work on these terrific songs. Thank you. Thank you.

An extraordinary writer that makes one reevaluate notions of love with comparisons to nature. Without a doubt Their Eyes Where Watching God is one of the best books I ever read. Colors Strike! Hope to read more. Any RECOMMENDATIONS?

She reminds me of my middle sister, Belinda Artis. She was a great writer, too. Not recognized just yet.

I like that money did not dictate everything she said and did.

She was an intelligent woman....documents state that no one knew her true age well just like a lot of black women I think and a lot of ladies would agree with me that it was not anybody's business but her own she didn't have to reveal her true age if she didn't want to. after all she had to keep something personal and private from the public why not that.

Did I miss something or were her pinnacle years at Howard University not discussed?
