As a broadcast pro, I'm amazed at the quality of consumer USB mics now. I normally just work in studio with RE20s, but anyone with a quiet place in their house can sound pretty great for a reasonable price with the mics available now. Your reviews are excellent, and I've enjoyed watching them just to watch your production. You look like you're having fun. Well done.
Wish I could hear what the difference is between just plain phone mic recording and the Shur mic recording. I can't make out what the difference is from your video, but thank you for testing it as you have. It's been helpful.
What are you on about? People enjoy his mic videos and he does gaming headphone reviews as well. Idk what more he could really review for the demographic that watches these.
it'sthequiz he reviews headphones and mics generally, how exactly do you suggest he expand? Instead of being a shitty troll, if you have a suggestion let him know, he listens.
I could expand to other tech like keyboards, and mice, and pcs, and monitors. However, I'm not knowledable about that stuff, so they would be garbage reviews. Moreover, there are TONS of reviewers like Austin Evans, MKBHD, Unbox Therapy, that make excellent reviews on those types of products already and I don't think I'd be adding anything new. The moment I think of a way to improve on a review format for another product, I absolutely will consider expanding. I just don't want to add more noise to youtube.
I don’t travel much at all but would like the simplest set up to record acoustic guitar and vocals, would you recommend a mic like this with pre amp as opposed to a Scarlett 2i2 plus a mic ?
Latency free or low latency monitoring? I'm not trying to be a jerk, but in Shure's website/promo video they say "low latency monitoring". It may be picky, but for musicians it makes a world of difference when tracking.
Hi Ben, Great review especially with different sound demo. I want to connect this mic to my Android phone with USB type-C socket. What do I need to buy? A USB type-A to type-C cable? Thank you bro.
I think it's sound quality better than Yeti. Without any process, this mv51 recorded voice is more similar to my own voice than Yeti recorded voice. Do you agree?
I rely on you dude! I've got Neumanns, Shures and loads more, but I just bought an iPad Pro and want to record while mobile. This looks great. Would you recommend it over the Apogee 96k and the Zoom iq6? You're playing and singing is great!
Would you recommend this one (Shure MV51) or the Blue yeti original for male and female singers? The style singing is classical and folk and also wind instruments? Everything acoustic. Thank you for your advice!
So I use my iPad to record to a DAW app. Can I use this mic to record to that DAW. Or do I have to use a different app that comes with this and route it to the DAW?
Man I really love your channel, although I must confess every time I watch a review or a versus series, I end up being more confused than before lol! So many good options out there, and at the same time is such a rather subjective matter. Been watching your videos for a couple months now, trying to decide on which microphone to get. Honestly I just use it for games, discord/teamspeak and occasionally twitch, but I'm done wasting money on "gaming" headsets and decided to get a standalone mic Anyway, you really do an amazing job and deserve more subs and views and all that good stuffs
Another good video, very clear and well made. Any chance you will review the AUNA 900b? It seems to have a great reputation, but I'm not sure if it's better than the C01u pro that has a similar price.
Another great review, liking the new lower thirds. Haha If there is one thing I don't like is that I I can't run quick enough to grab my good pair of headphones to watch your videos! haha Keep up the good work, my friend!
Is it bad for a mic (usb condeser one to be specific) to be plugged in (powered) all the time, even when I'm not gonna record anything for the whole day? Or should I unplug it when I'm not using it? Thanks for help! btw I decided to buy my first "professional" mic thanks to your videos, so thanks for that also :)
this one or the at2020+??????? what do you thing?? just to record sing voice but I hace my own platform with sound process.. I don´t have a good acoustic
I looked everywhere, and I couldn’t find my answer, the microphone has mic monitoring on even when I turn it off on my PC, so when I use my DAW it’s double monitoring, any suggestions? I don’t want to hear myself double when I record
I have an entire video reviewing 13 usb soundcards. SYBA STEREO USB SOUNDCARD is the only one that will provide sufficient voltage for the mic without phantom power.
Hi! I want to make a podcast where I interview a guest sitting on the other side of the table. The setting will be in different offices as I will go to them/travel etc. And therefore I am planning on recording on my iPad. Of all the different mics you have tested, which one(s) would you recommend, and why? Also I like the MV51, and in the MV51 Shure video add, they use two MV51 in the computer. But can you use multiple mics and still get a good sound if you use an adapter/hub for the mics going into an iPad? I read that you recommended the MV88 in the comments, but there is just something about sitting with an "actual microphone" kind of making the setting. Thank you for all your reviews, it really helps a non-experienced-tech-newbie a lot :) The best Miel
I honestly don't know. I've never PERSONALLY recorded metal vocals. I know the SM7b is popular. But out of those two probably the MV51 since the Apogee had a weird tone to my ears.
That really depends on if you're going to want anything more than a cardioid polar pattern. The MV88 is cool because you can have multiple different polar patterns which would be useful if recording an acoustic guitar or anything like that.
My thought is that the MV88 may be the better option as it will allow you to get a relatively wide polar pattern. Then you can make the track mono in post.
If you don't have a treated room, you may want to look at something like ATR2100USB, AT2005USB, Q2u, or Knox Dynamic. I was at a panel with Christy Carlson Romano, a voice actor who has worked on Kim Possible, and she mentioned that she used the ATR2100USB.
If you are super hard on your connectors, I think the connection type is important. But if you set it up and forget it, then I don't think it matters. I don't mind micro USB, the big chunky usb like a printer, or USB-c.
love the review as usual but the mic sounds like it has a high treble effect applied to it and its 0.003 secs after the normal sound :P i know dont know how to explain it other than high treble echo :P
Just found this review. Does this mic have a built in interface? Can it be used with the program Audacity? I am going to assume that you would still recommend an XLR mic to interface set up over a single USB mic to computer set up? All that I am interested in doing is singing & playing guitar to monitor my progress as a beginning player. So, what set up would you recommend? Thanks, Steve
You would just plug the USB plug into the computer and it should work. I do not use audacity so I cannot say for certain, but I can't think of any reason it wouldn't work. If you're just monitoring yourself and you want to record to computer or iOS device then this is a fine option.

You are the GO TO TH-camr for mic reviews. Thanks!
Thank you very much! You are too kind.
He hardly replies except appreciation message. I know that he is going to make fun of mine in next video.
I can’t believe you made this video in 2016 and I just received one of these mics.
It would be nice to see/hear ALL of your favorite mics compared side by side / back to back.
Just bought this mic for Smule singing because of your review. Can’t wait to test it out in the next few days! - XCI_Mischell
Great video. 7 years old now.
Have they improved technology so I can plug into my Android?
Thank you.
Wish I could hear what the difference is between just plain phone mic recording and the Shur mic recording. I can't make out what the difference is from your video, but thank you for testing it as you have. It's been helpful.
great review, everything i needed to know . Im buying one. Shure should thank you for that.
I just noticed that Carl Sagan poster on your wall. Mondo want. Mondo.
Just unboxed a Blue Nessie. Amazed lf the quality. Now it got me wondering what else is out there at almost same price range?
I'd love to see a review of the Zoom Q2N or one of the other Zoom cameras
You deserve more sub
he don't deserve any more sub because he don't expand his categories
What are you on about? People enjoy his mic videos and he does gaming headphone reviews as well. Idk what more he could really review for the demographic that watches these.

Podcastage what you're doing is great!
What a great review!
Quality video man.
Can really see the effort you put into these.
Loving it, Bandrew!
Thank you Adrian!
that was helpful but i would of liked to know how well it picks up diffrent ranges like bass ect
Bandrew: “4 ft away from the microphone...” yet, he is 2/3rds of the way across the room. Shure, get this man a tape measure! LOL
I don’t travel much at all but would like the simplest set up to record acoustic guitar and vocals, would you recommend a mic like this with pre amp as opposed to a Scarlett 2i2 plus a mic ?
I love the new thing (idk what it's called) were it tells u what it is and how much it cossed
Latency free or low latency monitoring? I'm not trying to be a jerk, but in Shure's website/promo video they say "low latency monitoring". It may be picky, but for musicians it makes a world of difference when tracking.

I think it's sound quality better than Yeti. Without any process, this mv51 recorded voice is more similar to my own voice than Yeti recorded voice. Do you agree?
Now this is some next level quality videos. Good job.
Thank you very much!
I rely on you dude! I've got Neumanns, Shures and loads more, but I just bought an iPad Pro and want to record while mobile.
This looks great. Would you recommend it over the Apogee 96k and the Zoom iq6?
You're playing and singing is great!
Do you think this is good for recording vocals for songs
Hi, thank you for the videos. Which is better, Shure MV51 or samson c01u pro ?
WOOOOOW We use it!
Would you recommend this one (Shure MV51) or the Blue yeti original for male and female singers? The style singing is classical and folk and also wind instruments? Everything acoustic. Thank you for your advice!
Thank you for this review, it is helpful!
Very nice review. In between Shure MV51 & Blue Raspberry , which one will u prefer more for youtube videos?
Never used the blue raspberry, so I do not know.
Waiting for you to use it & review:)
Really well done review and fun to watch! Keep it up, man! :-)
Is it much better then the MV88+?
Dude, pls review TULA if you havent already
I don't currently have one, but thank you very much for the suggestion. I'll definitely start looking into it.
So I use my iPad to record to a DAW app. Can I use this mic to record to that DAW. Or do I have to use a different app that comes with this and route it to the DAW?
One of my fav. youtubers
You, my friend, are too kind.
Podcastage *Insert laughing emoji and thumbs up"
Hi does it work for Android??
So if this was to be used in a practice space with some loud guitars, bass and drums and vocals feeding it would it be able to handle it
Nice Toy!! I'd like to see a review of the Rode Broadcaster from you! Great Radio mike!
Can you do a review on blue raspberry microphone?
Can you do a review on the turtle beach stream mic, from what i see it has all of the functionality I want but I don't know about the sound
Man I really love your channel, although I must confess every time I watch a review or a versus series, I end up being more confused than before lol! How does it work with Iphone....does it run the battery down?
Can you review Blue Raspberry if you haven't already so.
Hey man awesome video. Just bought this today. Thanks
Nice review, helped me make my decision!
can i use this Mv51 mic with my cannon M50 camera using a male to male 3.5 AUX cable to record video and audio together?
Hi :) would you compare this mic to Rode NT USB and Rode NT USB Mini?? :) I just cannot decide! Thanks! :)
can you connect this microphone to a camera (mini usb to mini usb), sony 5100, lumix fz300, canon m50 ......?
Great new Design! But haven't you already done this?
I did the interface that has the same DSP on it.
Another good video, very clear and well made.
Any chance you will review the AUNA 900b? It seems to have a great reputation, but I'm not sure if it's better than the C01u pro that has a similar price.
Cool presentation. Exactly on point!
Another great review, liking the new lower thirds. Haha If there is one thing I don't like is that I I can't run quick enough to grab my good pair of headphones to watch your videos! haha Keep up the good work, my friend!
bandrew can you make a video of the audio technica at2035 vs mxl 990 thank you
I think the Rode NT-USB Mini sounds better and for half the price. What do you think since this video was release b4 the mini came out?
Hope you're joking 😂
You can't compare! I already tried the rode MINI the sound is horrible without any treatment 😅
Thanks bro! Good! I've never seen such a mic.like this!
No wind screen for that when using outdoors?
wow awesome looking and functional mic
Agreed!
I see you extra video quality......
I appreciate you :D
Thank you very much! =)

I think best bet is to unplug when not using it.
IK Multimedia iRig Mic Studio black VS Shure MV51 for vocal and instrucment recording with computer and Android? What would you recommend?
Thanks!
Is the Samson go mic better than the blue snowball? (not ice) for TH-cam commentary and Skype
Stefan Andreasson yes
Can you use this Mike with Android phone?
Very thorough review. Thank you!
Plz do the RØDE NT1A
Loved the Video!! Will have to look at getting one!!
Thank you kindly.
I want to record in a noisy environment. Best mic?
this one or the at2020+??????? what do you thing?? just to record sing voice but I hace my own platform with sound process.. I don´t have a good acoustic
can i use it for teams calls?
Please, can you review the Shure Mv5? i really need your opinion about that mic.
Already on the poll.
Podcastage Thanks
Which one is better for static office podcasting?
shure mv51 vs rode nt-usb
Jose Ignacio rode picks up a bit too much background noise for my liking :/
Excellent, thanks!
Is there a shock mount available for this mic?
I looked everywhere, and I couldn’t find my answer, the microphone has mic monitoring on even when I turn it off on my PC, so when I use my DAW it’s double monitoring, any suggestions? I don’t want to hear myself double when I record
This mic vs the Blue Snowball?
Can you do a Soundcard review/suggestion? If not, what do you recommend for a bm8000 microphone?
I have an entire video reviewing 13 usb soundcards. SYBA STEREO USB SOUNDCARD is the only one that will provide sufficient voltage for the mic without phantom power.
Podcastage ok, thank you. I plan on using a phantom power, with the xlr to xlr setup that you showed in a video.
What microphone should I use, I have a 60 dollar budget, and I'm leaning towards the bm8000, but I'm not truly sure what to get.
Love you vids btw.
Yeah, that mic is nice for the price.
Good review
Nice review! Could you confirm if MV51 is stereo? Or only MV88? Tks
This is mono. There is a single cardioid condenser mic capsule inside.
Tks! In this case MV88 is better to recording voice and acustic guitar?
I prefer mono for vocals. Stereo would be better for acoustic in my opinion, but mono can work as well.
You can always record two takes with acoustic. One with the mic on fretboard, other with the mic on body.
MV88 is stereo mix for iDevice

Thank you for all your reviews, it really helps a non-experienced-tech-newbie a lot :)
The best
Miel
Do you need an interface with this mic? It just seems like the MV interface with a mic attached to it
Domingo Mirabal no you don’t. Its a usb microphone so you can plug it directly in to your computer
If you are only getting a small discount from Shure, maybe you should consider buying from a retailer. Then you could do actual unbiased reviews.
Very Nice!!!!
Good job man !
Loving your voice it was great and funny
thank you very much.
Great video , Subbed.
So, wich mic would you recomend the most for a metal band vocal recording? This MV51 or the 96k from Apogee? Best regards.

My thought is that the MV88 may be the better option as it will allow you to get a relatively wide polar pattern. Then you can make the track mono in post.
Podcastage thank you so much for that information. Just learning about this and your review has been the most helpful by far.
Happy to help Eric. Best of luck.
dude which one i should buy? shure mv51 or Rode NT usb.. for voiceover works at home

Thanks Bandrew, you're awesome. Your videos helped me get my setup sounding exactly how I want it. Keep it up. :-)
Happy to hear that man! =)
Help me out, Bro. Can I use this mic to record audio into other apps besides the Shure app, like Multitrack DAW, GarageBand, etc???
Of course
In 2023, does it make sense to buy micro usb connected microphone? I bought it and that why, I'll return it.
If you are super hard on your connectors, I think the connection type is important. But if you set it up and forget it, then I don't think it matters. I don't mind micro USB, the big chunky usb like a printer, or USB-c.
@@Podcastage Thank you. I oftenly plug in and plug out. Better to go with type c. Thanks.
Thanks man!
Good work , bravo
Podcastage? Is this a Descendents reference?
It may or may not be. Yes.
@@Podcastage T-Shirt gives it away ;)
On Amazon they have one Blue Nessie in stock so you can rewiew it. I am writing thath 'cause I saw that the Nessie was canceled.
I ordered nessie in september. Still waiting for that damn mic.
Thanks
love the review as usual but the mic sounds like it has a high treble effect applied to it and its 0.003 secs after the normal sound :P i know dont know how to explain it other than high treble echo :P
just gave it another listen hmmm !! maybe missing a pop filter ?
Something like what you’re describing sounds like TH-cam compression.
Can i use this for Skype or Zoom?

pretty cool video, i like the budget gear since it's within my price range =)
