Hello everyone! GoldenNova here! It's part 2 of Patron Week, which means I must fulfill my duty to the Quasar Commander, and I do so with glee, as I get to talk about one of the most underrated archetypes to come out in recent years, Ancient Warriors! And I get to do so with a friend, for much like how Liu Xuan sought out the ingenious mind of Zhuge Kong, I too have visited ArtistWithAfro so that he may instill his wisdom unto all of us! Catch the first half where I talk about the cards and how they work, then stick around for the second half where ArtistWithAfro will answer my questions about how Romance of the Three Kingdoms relates to the theme!

@dracojensei1141 he's using the source material name from the literary work the cards were modeled after. In The Romance of The Three Kingdoms his name is Lu Bu.

Correction on the point you made @27:38 about Zhang Yuan.
Zhang Yuan is actually a reference to Zhang Liao (styled Wenyuan).
Notice he also has black armour that has a similar design to Lu Feng, alluding to the fact that Zhang Liao was formerly a subordinate of Lu Bu.
Adding another fun fact, the “new” names of the YGO cards are actually just taken from the other name of the person. Back then, and I’m not sure why, people had two given names, one name with one word and the other with two words. While in the novels and dynasty warriors people usually refer to only family name plus their main one-word given name (even though when they introduce themselves to people, they introduce both names), the yugioh cards take the family name plus the first word of other name, so it is their real name but not at the same time.

You're talking about "courtesy names", also referred to as "style names". It's a cultural practice where a person receives another name upon reaching adulthood. It replaces the person's given name.
For example, Cao Cao (styled Mengde). When spoken to, he would be called Cao Mengde.
So Ancient Warrior card names combine the two into a new name, Cao Cao and Mengde become Cao De.
Love me some ancient warriors. Just a fun archetype. Wish KONAMI stop releasing random archetypes with no good support or already too tier deck support and just focus on existing ones so every deck can be good 😌
Fun fact (late though), the name of each Ancient warrior monster is based on their name given from birth and their styled name (name given when reaching maturity)
For example: Ancient warrior Rebllious Lu Feng -> Lu Bu is his birth name while Feng is part of his style name (his full style name is FengXian)
Another one is Ancient warrior Ambitious Cao De -> Cao Cao (birth name) and De (Mengde is his style name)
If hypothetically, they were to add a new Ancient warrior for example, Yuan shao, it would be something like:
Ancient Warrior Noble Yuan Chu -> (Yuan Shao First Name) and (Ben Chu is his styled name).
This is one of my favorite rogue decks. Once you get going ancient warriors flood flood field and can stop your opponent in their tracks and attack over almost anything.
There are only a few ancient warrior monster cards I have not used. Sun Mo is the MVP even when Rebellious effect where he betrays you Sun Mo steps in to return him to the hand. Double Dragon is the playoff MVP! This deck breaks boards and FTK and OTKS EASILY AND A LOT!
I use every spell and trap that is for this archetype and the trap path has saved my behind numerous of times while the other trap I summon Ambitious out to protect other AW monsters and his 3000 scares off the opponent!

Absolutely loved this video and absolutly love what Konami done with the archtype. Would love to see the meng huo faction or any other faction to be honest. Knowing how many love and care Konami put in this archtype already. Makes me more excited for any other cards that will arrive one day.
Recently saw these characters in the anime "Records of Ragnarok" as Lu Bu was the first warrior fighting on behalf of mankind

The Ancient Warrior names are a mixture of the Three Kingdom Characters' NAMES and STYLE NAMES.
e.g. LIU Bei (Style Name: XUANde) = Liu Xuan
With Lu Bu being introduced, I almost think IF they introduce more Ancient Warriors, it would be the Tyrant Dong Zhuo and the fictional Enchantress Diao Chan. Calling it now: Dong Zhuo (Style Name Zhongying) = Tyrannical Dong Ying (or Dong Zhong)
I'll keep this in mind if it happens!

Historically (Records of the Three Kingdoms) and fictionally (Romance of the Three Kingdoms), the 2 of them were that intertwined with each other.
As a 3 Kingdoms fan and a yugioh fan, I’m ashamed that I just found out about these magnificent cards. I must play them at once!!! ☝️😤

Anyone Else wondering why they’re all beast-warriors?
Their armor has some animal traits
The Wiki says it's due to their armor representing different animals. I believe the Chinese literature often compared the attitudes of the different Three Kingdoms leaders to animals, so hence, we get Beast-Warriors. Sucks we can't use ROTA, but we CAN use Tenki! 😎
Cool things to note is that the Attributes these monsters have also have to do with the factions they represent.
The Kingdom of Wu is Water (Sun Mou, Lu Jing, Zhou Gong) Started along a River and excelled in Naval Combat.
The Kingdom of Wei (Jia Wen, Zhang Yuan, Cao De) Is most likely Fire due to the fact their Emblem was discovered by tracking down a fallen star, where they found a Small brass statue of a bird, hence they adopted this Good Omen as Their symbol into being a Pheonix.
The Kingdom of Shu is Wind (Liu Xuan, Zhang De, Guan Yun, and Zhuge Kong) this is based on the story that when Shu and Wu took on Wei in a great Naval Battle at Chi Bi, Zhuge Kong allegedly Used magic to get wind blowing the right way for a Fire Attack to work and Decimate the Wei Navy.
The Dark Attribute is for Lu Feng, who Served Numerous Warlords and Eventually became a power in his own right for a little bit. While he was undoubtedly the Greatest Warrior China had, He was Very Treacherous, and Always betrayed whoever he served. When he betrayed Liu Xuan, who took him in, He fought against Wei, Liu Xuan, Zhang De, and Guan Yun and was eventually captured and Executed.
