  • Can you believe that The Addams Family has been a part of popular culture for over 80 years now? The first comic strip series by Charles Adams was published in the late 1930s in the pages of The New Yorker magazine. It would be several decades later before that the comic was adapted into the cult-classic television series.
    Then in the 1990s, the TV series would be rebooted as a new series of films. The Addams Family movie premiered in 1991 and its sequels Addams Family Values was released two years later. If you haven't seen those movies, then you're absolutely missing out because they are excellent. The latter actually might even be better than the first.
    This video is going to take a closer look at those films and reveal 13 fascinating facts that even die-hard fans of the Addams Family are probably unaware of. So get ready to snap your fingers together and spooky, kooky, and ooky.

    One slight correction to this. Carol Kane played Grandma Addams, who is Gomez's mother, not Morticia's mother. Morticia's Mother is Hester Grump, Play by Margaret Hamilton (wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz) in the TV show. Morticia also had an older sister named Ophelia

    Barry Sonnenfeld didn't "go on" to direct Big or When Harry Met Sally considering those movies were made before the Addams Family. Also, Big was directed by Penny Marshall and When Harry Met Sally was directed by Rob Reiner. Pretty sloppy fact finding there guys...

    One of my favorite 90’s movies. The 3 leads Lloyd, Julia, and Huston were all so perfect, and you can tell are very serious about their roles. No one phoned in their parts which could tend to happen on something that to the untrained eye looked like a rehashed nostalgia cash grab. With Sonnenfeld at the helm we believe the insanity and empathize with the characters. We don’t laugh at the Addams’ we laugh with them. Huge difference. And yes there’s plenty of suspension of disbelief but it’s all in good fun with a wink and a nudge from the director and the actors (personally I can only take so many 4th wall breaks but they don’t overplay that hand). It’s a wonderful movie with a lot of heart. It could of easily become a cynical mess in the hands of a different director (see Tim Burton’s last decade’s worth of movies). Great video. Thank you.

  • @giggles7179

    ....Ah, but do you know *why* Judith Malina wasn't invited back as Granny?*
    (* - I detest the films not referring to the character as Grandmama).

    • @SlashTheWeasel
      @SlashTheWeasel ปีที่แล้ว

      I wonder that too.

    • @giggles7179
      @giggles7179 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SlashTheWeasel Well, for the bit I have managed to dig up (either an appropriate or wildly inappropriate phrase), Judith, like her husband Julian Beck (Reverend Kane in the Poltergeist films), was pretty radical in her views and often left her trailer on the set with a massive plume of herbal smoke trailing her. Sounds ideal for the character but reading from their history, though they were greatly admired for their contributions in having founded the Living Theatre, they could be divisive. In general, although she's famously a year younger than Anjelica Huston, I find Carol Kane seemed a natural addition to the cast and wonder if she wasn't originallly considered for the first film; it seemed there were more than a few ideas and concepts Barry Sonnenfeld seemed to "correct" for Addams Family Values i.e. the set design was MUCH more spot-on accurately recreated with great detail from the work of Charles Addams. I wouldn't doubt Carol Kane replacing Judith Malina, who unfortunately had much of her role trimmed in editing - there were many additional scenes in the novelization* that didn't make the final cut of the time film, was another instance of this.
      * - "Granny" had a minor subplot in which she regularly battled with a fog machine on the rooftop - her figure atop the clock at the film's opening has a tiny replica fog machine atop the main tower puffing out mist. She later nearly decapitates Lurch when she throws it down in frustration.

    I always liked The Addams Family MUCH better than the Munsters, even tho I watched them both

  • @giggles7179
    @giggles7179 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Addams Family and The Munsters were neck-and-neck during their original run on television. Both series debuted within a week of each other and both were cancelled within a week of each other. As far as the Munsters remaining more in pop culture consciousness, that's absolutely absurd. As a child of the 80's, I can attest the characters of The Addams Family were far from forgotten, with "only the melody" of the theme being recognizable until the 1991 film. Yes, the film and "Addams Family Values" obviously introduced new generations of fans, but the show was perpetually in reruns.
    Perhaps most timely is my suggestion that for the final word on the Addams/Munsters question, compare the film adaptations, for they're a fairly reliable indication of continued popularity. Hardcore "Addams Family" fans are all but holding parades in Rob Zombie's honor, and rightfully so: Zombie has just ensured the Addamses will be securely far in the lead for the foreseeable future.

    Dear one, welcome our Holy God, through our Savior Jesus Christ, to be Lord over you as you completely surrender to Him. The angel of the Lord appeared to [Moses] in flames of fire from within a bush (Exodus 3 : 2). Now you see Moses was eighty years old when he made a fiery discovery that would forever alter his life. Though the adopted son of an Egyptian princess, he never forgot his Hebrew lineage and raged at the injustice he witnessed against his kinsmen (Exodus 2 : 11-12). When Pharaoh learned that Moses had killed an Egyptian who was beating a Hebrew, he planned to have him killed, forcing Moses to flee to Midian, where he settled (vv. 13-15).
    Forty years later, when he was eighty, Moses was tending his father-in-law’s flock when “the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up” (3 : 2). In that moment, God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egyptian slavery (vv. 3-22).
    At this moment in your life, what might God be calling you to do for His greater purpose? What new plans has He placed in your path? What do you learn from Moses and his calling from God? Why is it vital to be open to something new He’s doing in your life? As you ponder these very powerful questions. I invite you to receive our Creator THIS VERY DAY by first acknowledging that you are a sinner in need of our Savior. Confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord of your life. Welcome Abba Yahweh (Father God) through Yeshua (Jesus the Christ) into your life. Receive grace by believing in Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross, His death, burial and resurrection for the sins of all mankind. You will then be justified in salvation and forever blessed with His abundant love by the Holy Spirit!
    May God bless you in the Glorious name of Jesus Christ our Lord and our Savior.❤️
