I think there were two major reasons behind all the outrage behind "Love-storiyan" 1. The hype: The chorus was released earlier to tease the song and it just took off on the social media. It created almost an Sufi impression amidst the listeners. So now everyone was expecting it to be a soulful track. "Love-storiyan" being an urban Hinglish phrase naturally felt out of place to them. 2. The composition: "Love-storiyan" is situated at that critical point of the song where all the musical tension built by pre-chorus is about to get released, excited listeners are expecting that sweet sweet chorus in its full glory and then.. right before it's about to unfold.. comes the out-of-place phrase "Love-storiyan". Expectations, ruined! I believe if it was used anywhere else in the song, it wouldn't have bothered people so much.

I think people are looking at this film from a different lens. It's not that Indian audiance have never heard hinglish words in songs but this movie being marketed in from the mythology perspective and that's where people were expecting more soulful and Sufi song and that's why Love Storiyan didn't work. But apart from that the lyrics are really dope especially 'Rabba ne tuz ko banane me kr di h husn ki khali tijoriya..'
It is very simple to understand. Kesariya is such a phenomenal song. It was a hit even before it came out fully. It casts a spell on the listeners but somehow that cast gets broken as soon as people hear the "love storiyaan" bit. Had it been it was any ordinary song, people wouldn't have bothered. But because the rest of the song is so great, it got such a reaction. Remember, sometimes Tendulkar getting out at 99? Its the same kind of disappointment.

Exactly this! Kesariya is bigger than the cinematic situation built around it. The song will live on, beyond the movie it was made for. 10 years down the line, people will not listen to it thinking about the context of the movie it was made for. The song will stand on it's own, seperate from the movie. It's such a poetic song, from the lyrics to the melody to the vocals. Love Storiyaan just doesn't fit into that poetry.
Guys..... I agree on the point that song should have its own identity. But after all it is a song in a movie. This should suit the situation and characters of that movie. This is not some kind of singles where it will not have any kind of context behind it. You can observe the songs in 80s and era before that, lyrics of those songs always related the situation played around that moment. Legacy: Choli ke peeche kya hai is such a bad example to defend love storiyan. The former is an example of legendary lyrics. I love that song. Those lyrics have folk, emotion, innocence and sensuality rolled into it.
