    The reason why they call all of the people you’ve named including yourself “Culture Vultures” isn’t because of the work you’ve put it’s because of what you’ve gotten out of it and what you visibly to black folks haven’t given back. Meaning it’s great that you do these incredible interviews of our prominent artist and leaders but what philanthropic contributions are any of you making to the this culture’s community or even just artist, leaders and entertainers. We/Black Folks give you guys a pass with the hope that you will not only simply tell our stories correctly but make sure you’re giving back as we all have to give back. Trust me when folks don’t see a Jay-Z or a Kayne giving back they catch hell too but an outsider being allowed to be involved in black music, black entertainment and black culture has a much high bar to live up to. Accept it and act accordingly and if you are doing things behind the scenes let it be known. Of course some will still hate but the greater good is that we know you’re an ally and not just another taker.

Even the flashbacks….. never a positive one. Just some type of drama.

    Every time this subject is brought up, there tends to be an immediate need for folks to go through a laundry list of things they've done that were beneficial for the industry and individuals overall, as if two things can't be true. You could've seized the opportunity to exploit a void in Black Culture purely for the purpose of enriching yourself and still have done lots of good things as a result.
    Nobody said just because you're a culture vulture you're intrinsically evil; that's over stigmatizing the concept. The practice of being a culture vulture just rests in the opportunistic nature of it, which can be applied in a variety of ways. Also, nobody said it was illegal either or not a common thing associated with capitalism.
    I don't get the need to explain oneself regarding it. 😏

      if thats the case, then everyone is a culture vulture. at what point do we hold those on the receiving end of those "good things" accountable for being complicit just because they are benefitting? one has to ask the question, are individuals like Lyor Cohen going to stop being "Culture Vultures"? answer more than likely is no. so whats the next step? doubling down on being sanctimonious? or take action instead of making silly complaints?

    • @Dynasty19
      @Dynasty19 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@NamaRauqos04595 Damn now I have to be winded with you, as I mentioned before, all these practices are inherent to capitalism, so in some regards, you could deem many folks culture vultures indeed. The distinction lies in how society identifies you at face and the targeting of a community that you wouldn't have otherwise acknowledged, amalgamated with, or taken an interest in had it not been for a propitious financial opportunity that existed simply because there would have been other opportunities to enrich yourself within your own social or cultural sphere.
      Example: Bill Gates and Mukesh Ambani are not culture vultures because the fields they both excelled in were dominated by folks who related directly to them and likely consisted of a social sphere that they both had been very accustomed to since childhood. Gates didn't just get up out of bed in his late 20s or early 30s and say, "Hey, I think I can start mingling with those fellow Caucasian guys over there in tech who I don't relate to at all and fill a void or modify that industry in a way they likely didn't recognize, which will ultimately make me very wealthy within a relatively short time." It didn't happen like that at all. Not only was he familiar with the space, but he lived in the same neighborhood and attended the same private schools/churches as those same folks that helped him develop the software that led to the success of Microsoft (this is a broad example I'm using to simplify the concept, which isn't necessarily synonymous with race purely).
      Vlad nor Lyor should not be ashamed they found a niche in free enterprise which employs people in the process, but they both, loosely speaking, are culture vultures amongst many, no doubt about it…😏

  • @Alex-yy8ng
    @Alex-yy8ng 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    A culture vulture is someone who profits off of or exploits another persons culture without giving back or contributing to the culture that allows them to reap financial rewards and/or social status.
    Yes Vlad has become very wealthy from making his business within black culture, but there is a key difference that separates him from a culture vulture. The people he interviews who are predominantly black people, in many cases have been able to elevate or even revive their careers and financial situations as a direct result of being on Vlad's platform. Vlad is not forcing these people to come on his platform, they are choosing to. As long as people from black culture are benefitting from Vlad TV, that makes it a mutually beneficial arrangement and therefore there is no exploitation or unfair business practice happening.

    • @ch33zybreadtrellie4
      @ch33zybreadtrellie4 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That doesn’t make it right. Cuz what does Vlad seek out? Drama. Never positivity. He said he wanted to be what WSHH was. When’s the last time Vlad said “hey I wanna talk about your music, your new deals, family life,, etc”. It’s always “hey I wanna talk about how xyz got shot, if xyz is Snitchin, how much coke xyz locked up for, how many opps xyz got, and I want your opinion on tyrese cryin bout child support”. See that difference? It’s not about what you FIND, it’s about what you go out LOOKING FOR. Vlad doesn’t care about the positive. He said “I don’t wanna talk about OJs football career!!! I wanna talk about the murders!!!!!”

He pushes the culture forward as much as anyone else right now. The real culture vultures are the suits at these record labels that don’t understand or care for the culture. These guys that don’t listen to the music but try to shape and control it.
