I'm so excited that they're back! Even though Ryan is gone, we have to commend their progress and love to see Marcus be integrated into their comedy dynamic smoothly!
I'm blown away by this version of Gaston (Parody)! It's somehow smoother than last time, Marcus adds a fun new dynamic, and the change in lyrics makes it even funnier than before!
3:30 I love how smoothly both Jake and Jaxcssissippi transition between background and melody singing. It's one of my favourite parts of this performance. The unison directly following is also disgustingly smooth
After watching this version of the song countless times, I only just now noticed the maniacal little chuckle Joey does right before he goes into the super high note on the word "why". 1:48 It's the small details like that why I love these guys!
I've grown to appreciate Marcus more and more seeing him in various performances - but gosh, that line of his from 1:19 to 1:27 - that's _amazing!_ So smooth, and the tone of his voice on the low note is incredible! The way he and Jake play of each other vocally is great, too. Sometimes its hard to pick him out among the others (which I suppose makes him a good baritone, haha), but hearing his softer tone is just lovely, like listening to butter. I'd love to have more opportunities to hear him in their songs.
I feel like from their performances, this year, they've made some nods to FRED and mainstreet. You can see what kind of group they want and like to be and i love it. (Yes i know most of these were just some Good Ol Newfangled classics) i guess im really just refering to "Joe Re Mi". But still! Love your work guys!
You may not be a very good lead! LOL Just kidding! The ending gave me chills and I love the updated version. I had to pause at Nachos Belle Grande because I was laughing so hard!!!! And you finally all snapped at the same time! :)
as someone who enjoys listening to barbershop quartets, but doesn’t know the rules, i don’t understand why this group doesn’t win or at least is in the top three
In the past, the quality of the sound and the perfection of their singing has lagged a bit behind some of the more successful groups. NF4 has always known their niche was their comedy style, which isn't rewarded as much in the points as the pure music theory stuff, at least as far as I can tell. This year though, they were much improved. Listen to NF4 from say 2019 and compare with a group like Ringmasters...you can really hear the difference in control and also vocal range.
I remember this song from several years ago, my favorite part is when the d note is sustained as a solo voice through the ending chords. I don't know what this technique is called but the bass voice (Jake) is my favorite part as it's so rich and smooth. All the parts are good and this is a very interesting song to listen to.
He's always had a beautiful voice. I think the quartet's maturity after 10 years, and some clever arranging (Bare Necessities is a standout), have allowed him to sing more full throated these days. That last passed off note was jaw-dropping.
The original lyrics for part of the song were: "For there's no pipes so electrifyin' Perfect, the purest of pitch. You can ask any Joe, Jake, or Ryan, And they'll tell you he's surely a son of a... Rich set of parents who could afford quality voice lessons." "Pitch" rhymed with "rich", and "electrifyin'" rhymed with "Ryan". When Marcus became the new baritone, they replaced his name in the song, but now the line doesn't rhyme.
@@aleksjenner677 My thoughts as well. The thing is, judging against the criteria rates them in 6th place, and we must assume this to be fair and technically accurate. But the live audience going nuts, and YTubers clicking away in their tens of thousands, shows how this group have nailed actually reaching and thoroughly entertaining their audience - which really is the ultimate aim of any performer, I would think
I still prefer the version of spelling Jackson's name with the 7. Must be Belgian. Although I also love that every time they perform this, his name is spelled differently. Hoping one of these days they do a version where they spell his name correctly and he doesn't know how to respond.
I just rewatched the performance from years ago (th-cam.com/video/6-pXtSuxEXA/w-d-xo.html) side-by-side with this one. You can tell how hard these guys work both by the way 90% of the performances line up note-by-note and sometimes even joke by joke, and where they've added new material (such as "My parents could afford to give me the finest voice lessons." "So why didn't they?"). I hope they get first place next year.
The reveal of Jackson’s name only to mess up saying the quartet name
Prolly the funniest joke in NF4 history 😂
WEVE BEEN WAITING 5 YEARS TO HEAR HIS NAME
"Then why didn't they?" Dammit, can't breathe. Laughing too hard.

Marcus is pure vocal glue. Stud of a baritone. Seamless.
YES!
The first few performances with him that I heard I was a bit skeptical, but I think he was the standout member of the group at the international!
I'm blown away by this version of Gaston (Parody)! It's somehow smoother than last time, Marcus adds a fun new dynamic, and the change in lyrics makes it even funnier than before!

Ridiculously good! 🤯🤩
2:05 never noticed Marcus’s “it’s over there” but it has me cracking up I’ve seen this video like 40 times

“What’s your name again?” / “I’m an optometrist” 💀💀

They've been polished/sharpened up so much. NICE.

as someone who enjoys listening to barbershop quartets, but doesn’t know the rules, i don’t understand why this group doesn’t win or at least is in the top three
I used to think I understood. But this year I seriously don't get some of the scores.
I think they lose out a bit on the vocal and musicality categories because they are such a performance driven group
In the past, the quality of the sound and the perfection of their singing has lagged a bit behind some of the more successful groups. NF4 has always known their niche was their comedy style, which isn't rewarded as much in the points as the pure music theory stuff, at least as far as I can tell.
