AJ’s mandolin was made by a rancher friend of hers of wood from his ranch in California. It is constructed of Engelmann Spruce, Juniper and Manzanita. The points on the curls are deer antlers.
Breakdowns where everyone plays a piece are very common in bluegrass! This was awesome and I’ll be looking for more! Thanks again to Joel for bringing great music and musicians into the light! ❤️🎶
The "12 year old" is Sully Tuttle, younger brother to Grammy award winning artist Molly Tuttle. His guitar playing blows me away. Jan Purat is the fiddle player, and one of the best in bluegrass. Scott Gates is a talented songwriter, singer and guitar player. I think I've seen him pick up the mandolin occasionally as well. AJ Lee is the heart and soul of the band. She writes most of the original material. Her vocals are magic. Such a talented group. Hope you get a chance to take a deeper dive. Heck I might have to request more! As a musician and audio engineer, what do you think of that single mic and the dance they do around it for their solos? So much going on which they make look so easy. Peace.
Yeah, this was actually quite a fun song to watch. Now, I honestly have a hard time believing that was recorded around 1 mic like that. You hear everyone FAR too clear and consistent for just that 1 mic to have done that. I think it was just a way to convey who’s playing…just a “music video” thing.
@@andrewgates5894do you have behind the scenes knowledge of this that it’s confirmed they only used that 1 mic? I’ve done many many recordings…can’t say I’ve done one where an instrument is completely blocked by someone in front of the mic like that (like the stand up bass is being blocked). Yet it still sounds absolutely perfect and clear. I wasn’t there so I can’t say what they did exactly, but I never would have guessed they do this with just one mic.
