You should also see her amazing live presence via something from her Alhambra concert (maybe "All Souls Night", which fuses Celtic and Japanese traditional imagery in the lyrics with Eastern musical influences, one of her most renowned songs). And then there's her beautiful piano ballad side, for which I'd recommend the heartbreaking "Dante's Prayer". Then you'd have checked off the various essential elements that make Loreena the wonder of an artist that she is, though with still plenty of songs to still experience from there ("The Old Ways", "The Bonny Swans", "Marco Polo", her version of Christmas carol classic "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" that you could bellydance to... the list could go on for ages). Walpurgisnacht is the night before Beltane (May day), when witches are supposed to gather and fly in the sky. Faun is known for chanted vocals and often employs the use of a variety of different instruments including the Celtic harp, nyckelharpa, lyres, bagpipes, Japanese taiko, cister, Pagan zither, flutes and Arabic instruments such as the dombra, rebab, riq, oud, darabukka and bendir.

I think I’ve listened 5 times and finally heard the “car alarm”. I’m going to have to research these instruments you’ve been talking about. As for the song, what a story! It’s so beautiful, haunting, and commanding. There are no bagpipes in this because they have a droning sound under the notes. The one I did find was the bouzouki. It’s a Greek instrument comparable to the mandolin, and that’s from the dictionary. It’s been an interesting journey with this song. You’ll have to explain some of the instruments you talked about. Im a drummer and I was playing congas in school. And my drum teacher learned me to press my elbow to the congas skin (I dont know if you call it drum skin in english) to change the pitch. It can be congas here and maybe they used that type of technique? And use the palm and fingers to get that beat. What do you think? Take care! // Sara
I really only know of Loreena because I am a total fan of Alien and Blade Runner so I watched the movie Soldier with Kurt Russell because it is unofficially meant to be in the same universe. Anyway the movie is kinda bad but I was absolutely mesmerized by a segment of the movie that used her song Night ride across the Caucasus so I had to look it up.
