Alot of guys who end up with potential life sentences reconsider their code and Avon knew alot about the Stanfield operation wnd is one of the few people who would be allowed to testify about his own organization works and let juries basically put 2+2 together without directly saying that's how Marlo is doing it. Edit: I realized i didn't go into enough detail. So as a witness talking about his own background, Avon would be allowed to discuss how his organization did things. Basically be like a how to run a drug empire for dummies for the jury. The reason for doing this is sort of a sneaky play prosecutors do this to get the jury to see the other evidence presented and think "oh this is how a drug empire is ran." Leading a horse to water basically. Since Avon is talking about himself and not Marlo it's difficult to challenge in court.
It's disheartening to see Marlo "win" by default. Even more sad to know that that default win was solely due the Barksdale Organization imploding internally because ideological differences with regards to the direction the two top leaders wanted to take and structure the organization. When Avon and Daniel’s finally see who it is, it’s completely anticlimactic. This once again ties into the theme of never ending cycles as Marlo in a way becomes the new Avon
