    Concrats on your purchase.
Landrovers, even the older ones are awesome and such fun to drive. I dont blame you for wanting to drive that more.
Got a Disco 3 a few months back. 2008 model same engine as your Range Rover. Got mine for a song as well here in Australia.
What I can tell you is prepare to spend as much as the car's purchase price on bringing it up to scratch. At that mileage a lot of parts need to be replaced and some will fail.
Parts and labour are not cheap for Landrovers - at least here anyways. If you google a list of known issues with Landrovers, you can get a list of what you can expect to go wrong.
    Good luck.
Oh... The whistling sound could be your turbo.

I ran a 2006 Disco3 for 8 years, and you are spot on! There are several standard failures Justin needs to look out for. He encountered a couple of them on the test drives where he rejected the car: suspension compressor and park brake. The compressor costs about 400GBP IIRC. Park brake is more complex; I had it done twice on my Disco3 at 1100 each time. Yes, the whistling is likely to be cracked turbo cross pipes. The cross pipes feed the exhaust gas into the turbocharger, and are secured by several brackets. When the engine shifts on it's mount points its stressed the cross pipes. If they haven't been fitted properly the pipes crack. As the crack widens you lose more and more power, and the whistling gets louder. IIRC this fix cost about 1200 after sevaral weeks of waiting for new cross pipes from JLR. If the fitter doesn't fasten the brackets correctly, the problem will recur.

So you need to find an independent LR specialist; the dealer network is useless. Greyhill 4x4 are excellent, if you can get to Gloucestershire. They are wonderful cars when they work; as you say, they do everything! But they are complex, parts are expensive, and for all recent non Defender models you need to have all the diagnostic kit too.

I had been researching these and watching videos for almost a year before I decided to go for it. I too thought the whistle might have been turbo related but I wasn’t sure because there doesn’t seem to be any loss of power… but then again I don’t know what it was like brand new so I have no point of reference but it pulls fine and reacts as well as you would expect. I’ve booked a health check with my local main dealer. I’ll see what they say and get issues fixed elsewhere.

Hi Justin, try to do some research on that vehicle as it has Overfinch on the bonnet. Overfinch if you are not already aware , were a company that upgraded and customised land rovers, so there may be mods under the bonnet. Enjoy the car ignore the haters(there will be plenty), I’ve had nine range rovers since the eighties ,four of them brand new and never had a major problem. On our farm we have 4 range rovers doing very heavy work and still they do not give much trouble other than usual maintenance. Enjoy your range rover experience.

Bonnet sensor, give it a good clean and spray with WD40 or GT85. More than likely a sticky micro switch. That noise is more than likely worn lower front wishbone bushes. Just get the wishbone replaced, they are in expensive and more efficient than having the bushes replaced. Know L320 weak point as the factory bushes are fluid filled and leak with age & mileage. BTW if you get fed up with the drivers side cushion, it can be removed without having to take out the entire seat to replace. Its held on underneath with 4 Torx screws.
