      For some of us, it's much longer than 5 years. Hell I still haven't forgotten James Byrd Jr. & how THAT was a fight for justice. That ish was horror movie level gruesome & that's just one of the more known names of victims of racism. When there weren't cameras, well let's just say there's a reason we use to call them "One time" & "Jakes" as in "Jake the Snake".

      Emmett Till was lynched by white men, 1955. The women whose husband did it has since admitted she lied on the stand for her husband. When cops can kill black people, racist white people think they can too. Ahmaud Arbery 2020 was a HATE CRIME. It should be charged as such and those men should be put in the prison with the largest black population....oh wait that’s ALL OF THEM. Bc we arrest black people for NOTHING. Yes, we! America! Nah, what's disgusting is how much people have ignored this. Police brutality has been a thing for decades, but I reckon that the only reason people are so pissed now is because of everything else that has been hammering our social conscience -- Coronavirus, the daily Democrat/Republican shit, all of Trump's "wisdom", mass shootings, the growing wealth disparity, etc. If things were going good in our country, people would likely also forget about George Floyd pretty quickly.

    • @keith-ole
      @keith-ole 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I actually think the system is working much better now. None of these cops were charged in 2014 and now the cop who killed George Floyd has a second degree murder charge and the cops that were with him are charged as well. Much, much more needs to be done but it's good to see some progress!

    • @exoscalmfan191
      @exoscalmfan191 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Keith Olsen that happened because the protests kept going and spread nationwide. if people weren’t sick of the system, things would go on working just the same.

    • @keith-ole
      @keith-ole 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@exoscalmfan191 Well Eric Garner's brutal murder was also video taped, went viral, picked up by media outlets, his murderers went free. Now all of the cops who attacked George Floyd were fired within hours of the incident, after it went viral but before the riots. Again, we've got a long way to go but if we're not happy about this progress we'll never be happy about anything.

    • @keith-ole
      @keith-ole 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Blue Calla Oh I definitely agree, that's actually my point. First, the justice system was incredibly quick like you said. The officer was charged before most protests even started. Second, out outrage has actually changed things and upgraded it from 3rd degree to second degree. Neither of these have happened in the past, so that shows progress. I'm not saying the system works well, just better than it has in the past, especially when compared to Eric Garners case.

    • @jblue1622
      @jblue1622 4 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Arguments** not talking points, conservatives are the ones with talking points, you should be able to see the difference in this video, that’s why Jon Stewart is so great.
      Here’s an example: Eric Garner is a big guy, bigger than the police officer trying to arrest him, shows a bunch of people sharing the same talking point
      Jon Stewart: starts with a few jokes that makes it ridiculous that this is a talking point, and is debunked because there were 5 cops taking him down, while showing footage of them wrestling with him and pushing his head into the ground, it makes sense if he were dangerous than having 5 police officers taking him down would make sense
      Anyway it’s so weird we live in a country where police have the authority and power to arrest you at will and at any time they deem necessary and we just have to accept giving up our freedom without even asking why we’re being arrested and being given an honest answer, everyone understands why someone who is truly dangerous should be arrested, but it doesn’t really make sense in a country that loves to say it is part of the free world

      @@michaelmarsden8549 Thanks for countering my "short but pointless" quote with a longer but equally as pointless "analysis", but since you decided to address me, I'll engage you with an analysis of my own. Spoiler alert: it's LONG.
      Your suggestion is to keep things status quo? Ridiculous. Society cannot be irresponsible by sticking its head in the ground and ignoring the systemic nature of these events as isolated incidents as you suggest. The system is broken and needs to be addressed now instead of when it's either convenient for YOU or if YOU happen to be on the wrong end of a "rogue" cop's knee/baton/gun.
      No one I've heard said to disband the police (why do people go to extremes to support their arguments?). I agree that the police have a terrible image among society, left OR right. They only ever get called out to respond to the worst humanity has to offer and not ever to the best it has to offer, BUT THAT IS THE JOB THEY SIGNED UP FOR. If anyone should "deal with it", it's them. We didn't sign any of them up for the job and AFAIK there was no draft or mandatory conscription for police duty in this country. If they're not strong enough to do the job (or are just plain power-hungry assholes) and are likely to lose control, why does society need to wait until they fuck up monumentally to get rid of them? Some of them even have rap sheets/list of prior conduct violations of their own (specifically Chauvin and Thao in this instance). I don't wait until my tires blow out going 80 mph on the highway before I change them out. People need maintenance just the same. The police "code" of covering up for bad cops just indicts all cops, tarnishing the reputation of the occupation.
      There are solutions bandied about to reform/support law enforcement that involves both screening out the authoritarian/violent/racist types and mentally/psychologically supporting the good ones. I know most conservatives hate social programs funded by taxpayer money, but there needs to be a support system for police officers who suffer from PTSD or those who develop certain "mindsets" after years on the job that go against their primary objective of protecting and serving EVERYONE, not just some. The police system is basically funded in a socialist way anyway, so let's put those funds and more to use in better ways. THAT'S how we really should be supporting the police, but I'm curious how YOU support the police?
      To the point of "shit happening to whites" and society not caring as much, sorry, I'm not sure if you've noticed but "nobody gives a tinker's damn" about "black on black" crime either, which equally doesn't get reported by the news. Usually, if this type of violence is happening to white people, it's a white cop that did it. As long as people of the same race are killing each other, then the issue of racism doesn't exist.
      To the point of "...the general public that has no idea (really) what went on": damn near the whole altercation was caught on security cameras and phone video (curiously enough, no body cam footage from any of those cops...were they wearing any? hmmm). I think we've pieced enough of it together to figure out what the fuck happened, but what do YOU think we're missing?
      Lastly, to the point of letting the court system deal with these assholes, it's too bad George never got that chance (or Ahmaud or Eric or Michael or Breonna or Tamir or Trayvon or ... or... or...).

      I used to for a little while back feel sorry for these people (the "innocent" supporters/viewers) that only got lied to and manipulated to believe something so utterly false, having lies, hate and bigotry showed down their throats all the time, getting gaslighted and manipulated to a point of quite literally becoming brainwashed, but now.. I stopped having any single shred of sympathy or understanding for any of them. My *former* little piece of sympathy only included regular citizens, not all these political hacks and conservative media-folks, they *know* what they're doing very well. They have always been disgusting, and they'll continue being disgusting and *harmful.* They're literally dangerous. They've always been harmful politically considering their anti-immigration views, "pro-life" views (aka pro-controlling women and them reducing women to nothing but a baby-making machine, with *zero* regard for the carrying women's health *and* the fetus' and babies' health both in the womb as a growing fetus and that baby's well being after their born), anti-health care views, anti-tax(ing the wealthy) views, pro-war views, anti-lgbtq+ views, anti-equality views, anti-infrastructure views, anti-accessable voting views etc. They've *always* been directly harmful with their politics, but they've grown even more visibly dangerous over these past years. They've not only taken their already anti-PEOPLE views to new, even scarier heights, they've now become *deadly,* especially these last about two years considering their "handling" of the pandemic, ramping up police brutality and military actions *against* their own citizens, ramping up their heavily discriminatory voting laws against POC, and of course the deadly insurrection (terrorist attack) killing and injuring many people. Conservative media's propaganda is only becoming more and more deadly and corrupt. ANYONE who STILL supports these people have now become just as bad. It's gotten way past the point of them being able to be excused by how they've constantly been lied to. ANYONE who doesn't understand this yet are now (almost) equally as much to blame as all these corrupt politicians and media people. By this point, they just can't claim to have been blindsighted. They too know what they're doing. It's way too flagrant and obivious at this point, and they too have no excuse what so ever. They WANT the discrimination, fear mongering and hate to continue. They don't want the world to become a better and just place for everyone. They want POC to have no voice, no women to have their rightful autonamy rights and choice over their own body, they just want (and need) to push everyone who does not agree with them to have no (equal) rights. They want discrimination, white supremacy and hate to keep thriving. They want everyone who's not them to have it bad af.
      There's simply no way to excuse any of them anymore. They *all* know what they're doing, and they don't even try to hide it anymore. It's disgusting, point blank.
      It's too disgusting for me to even come up with anything more to say. It's just disgusting. Smdh. I just hope karma kicks in before it's too late.

So then persons of color are generally regarded as probable criminals by the police, and the police are generally regarded as oppressors of persons of color. I'm half black. And I live in Arkansas. People try and tell me there's no racism in the world. I deal with it every fucking day. And then this shit comes on. We live in a society where a black man can get murdered with a fucking video filming it, and the cop will still walk away free. "Not all cops are bad". I'd like to believe that. I really would. But I've been stopped in the middle of the day for walking with a hoodie on. I'm a 5'2 girl. The best part was, while the cops were harassing me, there were four white kids literally SELLING DRUGS behind me. In the daylight. In front of cops who did nothing. But hey, I'm dangerous bc of my skin color. My class took a trip to the local prison, and while the cops smiled and said hi to everyone, guess who smiled at me? No one. They looked at me like I was the scum of the earth. I'm a straight A student. I've don't have a record. I'm the founder of my school beta club, but STILL I'm treated like shit. Civil rights began in the 60's. It is 20 fucking 15 and we're still the same awful, horrid, evil people we were back then. This man, this poor man.... When I heard about it, I literally cried. And now we have a white mass murderer who killed 9 innocent, Christian people bc of their skin color. And you know what? He got escorted out of his house gently. With a bullet proof vest. How many times has an unarmed black person had their face shoved into the ground, or had been injured by a cop and left with no medical attention? How many times have they been escorted out of their houses gently with bulletproof vests? But this kid, this mass murderer looked into the camera and fucking smirked. No remorse. None. People are not born racist, they are TAUGHT. How long will this last? I'm 18. Will I die before this makes any progress? How many more innocent people need to die before people can accept we have a problem? I've been told by many white people that I'm beautiful, and that biracial babies are the prettiest but I've come to hate who I am. Society has made it to where people hate who they are bc of how they're treated bc of they're fucking race. Tomorrow is the 4th of July. "Liberty and Justice for all"? That's a joke.

Admittedly, part of that it is difficult to test since these we don't really have a laboratory to do the testing in but as far as the data has shown so far, there is no clear correlation between covid spikes and protests. I saw a different article I remember liking better earlier but I couldn't find it so here is this one I do like just not quite as much as another one (it's also possible the other one wasn't as great as I remember). www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-to-evaluate-coronavirus-risks-from-black-lives-matter-protests/

      @@Kobolds_in_a_trenchcoat in addition to what Lame Duck said, there's another thing to consider.
      Perhaps like you said theres no "clear" correlation between protests and covid spikes (even tho Lame Duck provided good counters to the article you linked), but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not happening. We already know for almost certain how covid spreads and how it's transmitted, and crowds of hundreds of people all yelling and being near each other is definitely not helping stop the spread. Even if the majority of people at the protests don't appear to be sick (could just be asymptomatic), they can still spread it to others. Maybe you don't care because you're young and healthy, but what about your parents or grandparents? Or that nice old lady who lives on the third floor of your building? Or the elderly mailman you see every morning? You have to think about others, not just yourself.
      I'm all for social change in this country, and what happened to cause all this is extremely tragic, but people have to realize that covid didn't just up and leave once we started protesting. Last couple of days have seen record high cases all across America. We have the privilege of the internet at our fingertips, use that for social change, instead of being out there prolonging this horrible virus.

      @@krazykhajiit9110 I live in Texas and I would like to point out that I am not advocating a careless spread of the disease. I have asthma (inhaler sitting on my desk right now), a somewhat weak immune system, and horrible allergies; asthma runs in my immediate family and autoimmune disorders and a weak immune system run in most of my extended family. I do not want this virus spreading at least as much as anyone else but I do have two things to point out. First, any spike we are seeing is going to be difficult to separate from the general spike that is happening when states decide to reopen because they don't really give a shit about human lives (sorry for the vulgarity). I don't think Texas ever saw even a slight flattening, much less a decrease in cases, but we have definitely not hesitated to reopen. Second, there really hasn't been evidence of protests increasing coronavirus cases as far as I have seen and that is what I was talking about. I generally don't care a whole lot what the explanation is if the thing that is being explained just isn't happening. Don't get me wrong, I'm with you, I don't want any more cases of this virus either and I think at least half our elected leaders and all our businessmen would see us dead from the virus before their precious stock falls but I am also unwilling to tell people to stay at home and not protest police brutality without clear evidence that the protests are causing covid to spread.
      I understand what you mean about advocating for social change online, but I just don't see it as effective really. Maybe I'm mistaken and I certainly hope I am on that front (I am legally blind and haven't been to a protest myself because of a lack of transportation) but I do not see online activism as a functional replacement for protest.

    If you watch the video, you can see quite clearly that the officer's forearm is across Garner's windpipe. This is made clearer by the position of the officer's elbow near the shoulder.
    As the definition says, this is a chokehold, as it is compressing the windpipe. A sleeper hold is clearly different, and is telegraphed as such by the elbow typically being beneath the chin.
    And I don't know what martial art Hannity claims study in, but being "a martial artist" is only relevant in discussing a technique if you've trained in it or similar. Karate, for instance, doesn't really teach holds. BJJ, on the other hand, focuses on them. But if he trained in a relevant style, I'm sure he would have named it, rather than obfuscating to claim expertise.

    • @rich1051414
      @rich1051414 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A sleeper hold has the bend of the elbow directly over the windpipe, with the other arm wrapped around the main arm to act as a pry bar, to give mechanical advantage towards squeezing the sides of the neck by pushing the head forward, cutting off blood flow to make the person pass out. The hold MUST be immediately released the instant the person goes limp, or else you risk causing the person brain damage or death.
      This absolutely is not a sleeper hold that police and military are taught.

    "Little kid gets shot by cops? Well he shouldn't have been holding that toy gun."
    "Choked to death by police? Why was he selling loose cigarettes?"
    "Oh really you were raped? Why were you wearing that suggestive clothing?"

      What's different this time is that we can not and will not let it be forgotten for another 6 years. We can not stop now. People are listening, cops are being charged - which simply. Did. Not. Happen before now.
      We have proof in photos, videos, stories of countless atrocities. Share Share Share!
      All those people who think this doesn't exist because they've never left their 6,000-white-person town - make them see it.
      Educate, Explain, as many times as it takes. With compassion; they do not know what they do, they believe what they've been told all their lives.
      We can protest for 1000 days. it's both pissing off and scaring trump; he just keeps escalating... eventually he bombs the lot of us, or, he is stopped. All of them are stopped.
      Don't give up, stay strong, friends! If our country can solve this, we can do anything. THEN is when America will be GREAT again. #passiton #blm #blacklivesmatter #MAGA #forREAL
