GUATEMALA - After an ultimate Guatemalan street food tour in Guatemala City, we woke up at 4 am the next day to beat the traffic heading towards the Caribbean Coast of Guatemala!
Breakfast - Along the way we stopped to eat some delicious Guatemalan breakfast, including a classic plate with egg and tomato, fresh tortillas and beans. They also made delicious empanadas, stuffed with cheese, beans, and chicharon.
Livingston - We arrived to Livingston, the Caribbean Coast and home to the Garifuna people. First we started with a boat trip up the river to get to Livingston. We stopped at Cayo Quemado to make raw fish with coconut milk. Then we ate at a restaurant called Buga Mama, where they support the community through their restaurants. Chef Sanchez made a few local Mayan and Garifuna dishes.
Las Tres Garifunas, Livingston, Guatemala (goo.gl/maps/jDktnt1gpkA4g5ao7) - This meal and experience was the highlight for me, where we met up with Diana and cooked an authentic Garifuna meal.
Cacao Farm - The next day we headed to Rio Dulce, still near the coast, and met up with Mr. Eugenio, from Hacienda Tijax. We had a lovely churrasquito Guatemalan bbq, and then went hiking in the forest to harvest fresh cacao. We then had the treat to make traditional Mayan hot chocolate, something truly spectacular.

This is why Mark is my favourite food vlogger. He doesn't just eat the food, he dives deep into the culture with an open mind.
Who wants to really go into a African hut town, sit with the locals and be poisoned by there food if not for money 😂.
Exactly!
True that
So true
Often filled with false information though……… very often
Proud to be a chapina! I am Mayan, Caribbean side of Guatemala 🇬🇹 thank you Mark for representing my country beautifully!

I'm sold on Guatemala. Their food looks so fresh, rich and varied
I wish Costa Rica had more variety. Since I want to visit there soon
I always thought that Mark was just a tad too enthusiastic to be real but over time, have really learnt to love him. He is super respectful, takes joy in different cultures & just genuinely adores food and new experiences. Glad I found him.
everything looked so good but that Ceviche de Coco i need to try asap!
Soo, you can eat food ?

Hey TH-cam, whose playing at work over there lol
Never thought I'd see it! I'm Garifuna, so happy Mark is showing our culture and food!
Beautiful. My family is from Livingston and Puerto Barrios, and the amount of colors in each meal is amazing. No additives or harmful chemicals. Just fresh veggies and light seasoning for the most part. Thank you for adding to the positive exposure of the Garifuna culture. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Same !!
My husband is Guatemalan and im so glad you have visited Guatemala and showing us a culture of people that are the sweetest kindest people you will ever come across. Much love to the Guatemalan people from me from the USA

Guatemala is a tiny country but with so many subcultures (about 25 different languages are spoken in its small area) and climates... From ultra hot to very cold, all combinations of humidity and altitude. It also has a very difficult topography that oftentimes makes very hard to travel short distances. When you combine this with the influence of Mayan, neighboring Aztec, Spanish, African, German, Swiss, and many more, the result is a great variety of foods. I enjoy Guatemalan food, including multiple dishes you haven't even shown yet. I hope to see several of them in your next videos.
wow
Guatemala is not a tiny country. El Salvador and other Caribbean islands are smaller. Guatemala included Belize, the Mayan Riviera in Mexico, Cancun and Oaxaca but were stolen from Guatemala by corrupted governments. Nonetheless, is not tiny. You cannot explore the whole country in one day.
@@angelarodas9621 I love Guate, but IMHO, it’s very small compared with many countries, including Latin America. Although it’s true that minute Caribbean Islands are much smaller, within the worlds stats, Guatemala is quite small. It’s current official 107 thousand square km. In area means it’s less than one sixth of the world average country size. Within Latin America it’s about 80 times smaller than Brazil, 25 times smaller than Argentina, 10 times smaller than Bolivia or Colombia or Peru , 7 times smaller than Chile, 19 times smaller than Mexico. Within Central America, it ranks third after Nicaragua and Honduras. However, within its small area, Guate is an amazingly beautiful and diverse country.
Hi Mark at 15 I spent almost a month in Guatemala. Visiting the Old city was an experience I'll never forget. I promised myself, when I got out on my own, I would visit again, with the hope of relocating there. While God had other plans for my adult life, Guatemala and her people will forever hold a special place in my heart! Through you, I've seen some of the sights I visited so long ago. Much growth has taken place, still the atmosphere of the hearts there has remained the same. Thus, the beauty of both cities has remained in many ways the same as well! I'm so happy that you are there, viewing the customs, colors, and depth of a people God calls His! Thank you for taking me along, and for sharing your love of people and life with the world! Prayers, love and blessings always, T.❤To❤
Mark You’re The Best!!!!!!!
From a Guatemalan girl that has been a follower for a few years and I’m now in tears watching you eat our wonderful Guatemalan food 🥹♥️ 🇬🇹 Thank you..
Guatemalan food is so delicious 🇬🇹🇬🇹
Thank you for coming to my country !
I love it how you never see any fast food restaurants there food is always fresh and local.
Some of the best food I've ever eaten was in Antigua Guatemala! It's a town that gets some pretty heavy tourism, but with a little extra research you can find the really great home-grown places beyond the tourist traps. My best memory is just seeing all the locals making tortillas everywhere you go, and bringing them directly to you at the table. Simple. No frills. Amazing. 🤤🇬🇹
Outside La Merced church.. delicious home cooked meals.
Beautiful video mark. I love it. From Dallas Texas. I'm Mexican and love Guatemala traditions
Pablo is the sort of lad you be happy to hang out with when eating and drinking.
Mark your programs are very interesting.
But you don't know how to eat with your fingers😅
Please use a spoon and fork.
Either does Pablo 🤣🤣 he goes to another planet every so often while eating lmao
The Garifunas cuisine in Livingstone looked delicious, when the lady was making the coconut milk from scratch I knew the meal was going to be special. Another great video Mark, thank you.
I love my country Guatemala 🇬🇹 Livingston is my favourite place of all!!! ❤✨😭 I miss them so bad
I'm following you along on this trip to Guatemala,I'm from guate, living in the US,I love watching your videos, can't wait to see you in Tikal, God bless you Mark ❤
Mark, I'm so thankful for your visit to Guatemala. I always wanted someones outside opinion of our food and culture. I've always felt like we've been overlooked in that sense. Watching these episodes and reading the comments, I know now that the world is watching. Thank you and it goes without saying that you enjoyed every moment and mouth full.
Guatemalan food certainly has a lot of variety. Seems like you had quality time trying everything out.
Good lord, how .any times can you say the same word over and over again . Its like he thinks we are too stupid to remember it the first 100 times!!!😮

This video is an example of why Mark has 10 million subscribers. He is so incredibly interesting. I learn so much from him.
This is precisely why Mark is so important to the planet. What a joy it is to watch his videos. He's the reason for many of the places I take my children.❤
I envy you this trip, Mark. Thanks for taking me along so that I could learn about a whole, new/ancient culture.
Love this country! It's very beautiful there, everywhere is so green. The food and the cultures are wonderful! ! Love the chocolate too! Good job Mark! Can't wait to see the rest of your Guatemala series.
Micah is having an amazing childhood.
My daughter went to Guatemala and I didn't understand it. Never thought tourists went there. She returned home the same day you arrived Mark. I learned alot from this video. Next year I will visit. We're carribbeans and I never knew that there are Garafunos in Guatemala. I want to visit Livingston.
Where u from. ? Alot of tourist go to Guatemala every year but they most go to antigua guatemala and volcanos and all that and same to the there livingston and rio dulce u have to go u gonna like Guatemala
Welcome to Guatemala, you Will love this country, it is realy beautifull.
What you didn’t understand? Are you from another planet? You didn’t know tourists go there? You said you’re from the Caribbean, from a solitaire island? People from all over the world visit Guatemala. They even have Korean, Chinese, Jewish, Hindu and other communities in Guatemala. You don’t know what you’re missing. You need to explore the world more often.
The expression on Mark's face gives me joy. That expression is from his soul and the joy of eating those dishes makes me want to make that destination my next travel vacation
🔥🔥Love How Mark Travels and Educates us about the culture at the Same time 💯💯💯💯💯
I love this series more and more. The simplicity of the people, the beautiful green surroundings, the simple yet complex and so pure food and cooking techniques. This is what we never see and would never experience if it was not for @Mark Wiens ❤ who is getting it across to us in such a beautiful way. I keep telling God everyday that let me share a meal with Mark and his beautiful family Lin and Michah without their support Mark wouldn't have been able to do what he does so effortlessly. God Bless ❤
Pablo is a really cool guy! I like him! He's one of the best guides Mark has ever had, in my opinion. I hope we get to see more of him.
Crei que era su amigo ya que se ve muy buena armonía de los dos
@@DEZONAENZONA ambos necesitan modales al comer. que mal ejemplo para el hijo que está siempre por ahi
He seemed to have had too much "Colombian snow" before the video. He was a bit "accelerated" over the video, you can see Mark's reactions to him eating in exaggerated ways.
@@margitakliewer3849 Manners differ from culture to culture, some eat with their hands, some with chopsticks, and some with forks, ect.. Stop acting like mark needs to teach his kids western manners. 😭

@MarkWiens thank you for showing the food from my mom’s beautiful country 🇬🇹🇬🇹🇬🇹
I have been fallowing you years before Micah was born. Enjoyed every single one of your videos. This series is very special to me. I’m Guatemalan leaving out of the country for almost 18 years.
Thank you for showing me my country through your eyes and lens. I’m from the highlands in Guatemala. I’m very exited to see what is next.
Ah I realized, when you're savoring Garifuna delicacies, you're not just eating; you're experiencing a delicious cultural journey. As I see your reaction, it feels like a culinary journey where the spices are more adventurous than your last vacation.
As I mainly stayed on the city, I never got to see this town. I mean, fingercrossed, I hoped my dart would land again here next time.
So glad your doing this guatemala series. My family is from there and you never hear it discussed for its cuisine. So I appreciate your coverage and especially the wide range of your exploration doing city and country and regional foods as well. Its also wonderful to see a 3rd world country taking steps to preserve culture, nature, and support women. And so exciting to see these manual traditional food preparations as well. That definetly adds to the flavor and specialness of the food
Last time I checked, there’s only ONE WORLD. He didn’t make three worlds.
what does 3rd world country means to you? I have travel to many countries in the world and I personally I SEE NO difference between all of us....
You said your family is from there? What about you? You were born without their genetics. Were you born in a capsule or in a bubble?
Guatemala is such a fantastic country. My ex-husband is from there. So beautiful and we went three times.. the food is amazing. ❤❤
Hello jennifer
The look on your face after tasting and drinking the cacao said a million happiness's 🤎. Oh my goodness. Such beautiful humble people too. Food looks delicious. Thanks Mark.. hey Mika 🥰. Gosh I remember when he was just born ❤.

Mark........ Thank you so much. I cannot express the love for what you do for our planet. You go through a lot to provide us with insight which most will never experience. I knew from the beginning you didn't care about money, you are doing this for the love of life, and sharing it with all of us. Thank you, thank you.
Thank you so much for visiting these lesser seen locales - I learned so much from this episode. What a treat to see the cacao farm and chocolate making! Micah is so fun 🥰. Loved Pablo, too. Great guy.
Was very stressed lately and I just came back to watch your videos. You’ve improved A LOT! And as always, you never disappoint, Mark! God Bless!
Provecho Mark y que bien que disfrutes de la gastronomía de Guatemala sigue así disfrutando siempre y más con esa humildad y sinceridad 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I had the chance to visit Livingston in 2013. The food is honestly otherworldly.
Fun fact: the loroco is a flower, but it is in the stage before flourishing.
¡Gracias por el siempre animado youtube!

Mark, please make a video of El Salvador food too! You'll love our food. Greetings to all my Central American brothers and sisters watching this video! 💙🤍💙
Callate bo
*El salvador imitates Guatemalan food. You all even think pollo campero is guanaco, you are most definitely not our"Brothers"!!! Try maybe Parasites 🦠🦠🦠 i wouldn't have a problem with guanacos but when you start claiming my culture, Foods, and even our way of talking and claim it as you're own then we have a problem. Piss off just look at you promoting your crap in a Guatemalan video.*
porque cada vez que alguien va a Guatemala siempre quieren que vallan a El Salvador. Nadie hace eso solo Ustedes que envidiosos
¿ que es el salvador?
Thanks for this awesome video, Mark! I know of a family member who will visit Guatemala in December, so this video and another you did will help them tremendously!! A million thanks!!!

The coconut seafood soup looks to DIE FOR 🔥🔥🔥
Eating that fish .....you die as soon as you open your 👄 mouth !
I noticed what you ....Did right there.
I personally know Pablo, he's always been a chill dude
Love that his family comes along
Yes yes yes yes !!!!!! You went to my aunts restaurant in Livingston ❤ love it 🥰. 100% garífuna.
the scenery is beautiful. i smiled at the reaction of Pablo enjoying the food. 😁 "home cooking" nothing like it. 😃 i was thinking also, the cacao, mixed with the fresh coconuts on the island might be great together!😁
Never knew of Garifuna. Wow. Amazing history!
My family is from Honduras, and as soon as I looked at the breakfast, it reminded me of my family. That was my favorite!
My mouth is watering, I enjoy this as much as I suffer, everithing looks delicious. Beatuiful landscapes too
I always get soo hungry when I watch ur videos but the close ups and description is what makes me feel like I can almost taste it. Please keep enjoying for all of us until I can plan a trip and taste it for myself one day
Congrats on 10 million Mark!!!!!
Where can I book my tour with Pablo!? What a sweet guy. Good vibes!
I saw a link from the first video of Guatemala I think. It was the one in the city, when they went to the underground market. It has the information about Pablo
Awesome job mark with food vlog thumb up .
Mark keep enjoying it to the fullest. It's still a mystery to me how you stay fit even after eating all those foods😂
He has good metabolism. 😂
I gues, he do not eat entire the plate, he eats half of every food he show us kkk.
time ago he explained how he eats to stay fit. Not always is food-food that way.
It's the hot chillis/peppers/habaneros that keep him slim😅
Love how he’s eating the empanadas on a Mickey/Minnie mouse plate 😆 it just reminds me of eating at home!!
Marie Sharp's pepper sauces are amazing. You get flavor with heat. I spent time with my daughter in the country of Belize and really came to like this pepper sauce that runs from mild and fruity to very hot
I loved Belize and would move there if I could convince my husband that he is ok with the heat.
Absolutely love Mark have watched for years and years love the addition of extra info he gives about the places, food and cultures he visits. My goodness he is so awkward when he eats with his hands/fingers 😂
this cuisine looks amazing! i think Pablo is having the time of his life too lol
Pablo is a great addition to the series
