    Thank you for the validation with Coconut OIl. I always think that my soaps would feel a little more lush without so much of it. I don't know why it took a video to move me out of my standard recipe. I guess we get stuck in a rut and someone has to pull us out of it sometimes.

      Yes, coconut oil in high amounts can be very bothersome. I much prefer to use some castor instead of the higher coconut.

    I’m finally getting around to making these this weekend, and I’m going to make two batches...one with my standard recipe and then with a modified BB recipe. I had talked to several other soapers who found the BB recipe to be too drying and didn’t lather well. So I’m going to drop the Palm Oil and Coconut Oils down 5% and add 5% to the Mango Butter and 5% Castor Oil. Ad I’m going to mix some TD with White Mica for a more Powdered Sugar vibe with some sparkle.

    • @moriversoap
      @moriversoap  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds about right. So many shared recipes are just not good. But they share them anyway. Haha! I can't remember what tweaks I made to this recipe but we've been using those bars up in the last few weeks. The recipe I made is fantastic! It's too high end with the jojoba but it's been so nice. It has loads of lather and is not drying to us at all. My skin is so dry right now too with the dry winter air. I will try to remember to see if I can dig up the recipe to see what tweaks I made.

    • @LadyGecko

      Yeah, I wasn't sure what all I had said in the video. It's been so long ago now. lol I checked the video description but I had not added any specific info about it there. It looks like I did 40% Olive, 25% Palm, 20% Coconut, 5% Cocoa, 5% Jojoba, and 5% Castor with a 7%SF. It is a super nice soap.

    I wonder if that is why Ann Marie used the different mold to make the bars because of the yellow dragging down to cover the brown. It is still super pretty. I have the same mold. I haven’t used it yet but I wanted to make lemon blueberry bars. What I’ll do is pour my bottom and let it set up and add my dividers and spoon in the color top and see how it works out.

    I always watch and love your videos and I can see that you often use shea and cocoa butter and I was wondering if you can clarify something for me. I've heard that when making cold process with shea and cocoa butter that we shouldn't use any more than 7% I think it was. Is this true? I just wonder why..

    • @moriversoap

      Typically, those can be fairly interchangeable. Check the numbers in the lye calculator though as cocoa butter does often add a level of hardness to a soap that shea does not.

    Hi Holly! What a delicious soap. I’m curious if you’ve had any issues with the lemon essential oil. I bought some from BB and it states not recommended for Cold Process. Thank you for any input and for all your soaping hints through the years.

    • @moriversoap
      @moriversoap  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Laura! Typically, lemon essential oil fades in CP soap. Lemon essential oil is common in CP soap but it does fade on its own so it is often part of a blend. I suspect that is why they don't recommend it for CP. Confession: I didn't use their Lemon EO but I did know it was available there. LOL That was a great question!

    What is false trace and how do you spot it?

    • @moriversoap
      @moriversoap  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      False trace is when it seems the soap has traced and it's time to pour but it's really not emulsified enough. It can then break back down. For me, it will look smooth and thick, and then start breaking down into grains almost sort of like the look of curdling milk in a hot liquid. Usually, it means I am soaping so cool that the hard oils started solidifying and binding with the lye solution but it's just really not 'there' if you know what I mean. :-) I usually like to observe my batter to make sure it holds.

      Don't! Tried it several times (as it seems to be a fast process, worth trying) but I did not get a good result. (false trace, stearic spots, super-fast trace - even without FO or colour). Knowing that our recipes are more or less alike I would recommend sticking to your own way!
