Right on, great video man. And, hell yeah, Dennis Dunaway is underrated! Surely he was outside the box, but always played something cool. Thanks for posting this!
Wow... Gutter Cats versus the Jets... man I can’t tell you how many beer powered nights we used to wander the streets of La Mesa, Ca as teenagers after listening to the Coop
Best bang for your buck in US made guitars love the fact they sell direct. Their QC is great , so is their customer service. Played them for yrs. And the fact you can spec build your order is fabulous. Love them .
Hmm I've had a dc model since 96 and have never had to touch the truss rod. Its been used hard in various conditions. Maybe I just got a really good neck.
Same experience with my 2008 Carvin DC127. Best upper fret access I've experienced, great fretwork, great tone...but it needs a truss rod adjustment every week. Apparently they've fixed this issue under the Kiesel brand, with dual carbon fiber rods and quarter-sawn necks.
After several tries at playing them, I realized that I am just not able to really get the hang of flatwounds. The slickness and lack of snap forces me to really attack them and I end up shredding my fingers after an hour.
I have a Peavey Accelerator that has the same bushing issue on the tuners. Peavey never used the tuners with bushings like that again, and after replacing six different ones I know why.
Did you measure the string height with the capo on? Relief or string height first? Really like your stuff but would like to know what relief spec was used on the feeler gauge..?
Carvin now known as Kiesel in the guitar production industry, make excellent quality instruments. Love mine. Plays great, sounds great. Other than that I had a good laugh today as TH-cam recommends Dave’s World of Fun Stuff Subscribers to the Stewmac channel? Yeah Right TH-cam! That’s not gonna happen!! Hahaha
Renamed Kiesel Guitars and going strong, the audio division shut down it's amp, mixer and pa, now just makes in ear monitors, mics and three different tube preamp guitar pedals based on their most popular amplifiers.
They make their own electronics and pickups, right down to the circuit boards. They have their own unique sound and are excellent. If you ever pull one apart, you can tell it's done properly inside as well - clean, well sorted, and no cheap labor cost-cutting.
Back when Carvin was actually Carvin, they made awesome instruments at a very affordable price. Since the son took over and changed the name to Kiesel and started is trying to complete with PRS, Suhr and Tom Anderson, their prices have gone through the fucking roof. Screw that. i bought my Carvins because they were made and built for a working musician. Now they are trying to be a boutque builder.
Flats have a smooth surface. They are mellower, higher tension and last forever. Roundwounds are "regular" strings, much brighter, but they fade with time.
Rollers? Why would a bass need a roller bridge? The best type of saddle for sustain and tone is a knife edge. I would change that bridge out and I bet it would improve substantially.
And Carvin is still making in ear monitors, microphones and two tube preamp pedals: A clone of their old X-100B and a copy of the Steve Vai Signature tube head.
Nice! I have that same Carvin LB70, but in a blue burst instead of the red. Great tone!
Hi I’m from Suffolk,England and just want to say your videos are superb! Wish I was half as talented as you and could play!
Great sounding Bass. Nicely done, as usual.
Great sounding bass, Dave - you need to get yourself one of those!
I think we found something that Dave likes? Sweet!
Right on, great video man. And, hell yeah, Dennis Dunaway is underrated! Surely he was outside the box, but always played something cool. Thanks for posting this!
That sounded so great Dave love to hear it again
That’s cool it gives you string through or top loader. I love carvin..
liked watching you play those bits from 8:50 onwards dave. 👍 Sounds really good. I have to practice as well '🎸
The cicadas are rocking out....nice to hear that in the middle of winter.
Carvin... I worked for them for one day...lol. I did get a tour of the factory and that was cool. Their refinish guys are great!
Another great one Dave
Nice to see the setup went smooth, more beer time I'd guess as a result!!
I knew this was gonna be a good one...I have a Carvin / kiesel bass...it rocks, stable neck, great sound..
Wow... Gutter Cats versus the Jets... man I can’t tell you how many beer powered nights we used to wander the streets of La Mesa, Ca as teenagers after listening to the Coop
Dave, great stuff as usual sir. Keep up the great commentary and work. Your videos are a pleasure to watch and always make me laugh! MC
That´s an attractive and groovy looking Base-Geetar.
love the dennis dunaway stuff at the end.
gutter cat v. the jets
and dead babies.
sweeeeet
Best bang for your buck in US made guitars love the fact they sell direct. Their QC is great , so is their customer service. Played them for yrs. And the fact you can spec build your order is fabulous. Love them .
Carvin/Kiesel make great stuff. Got a new one coming in the mail.
Nice mention of Dennis Dunaway. One of my favorites
Those bridge saddles are crazy straight across for the intonation being set. I thought you'd have to make all kinds of adjustments!?
Nice base! Love Carvin/Kiesel products.
Kiesel/Carvin makes really good shit. I have 3 6 string string guitars and an 8 string; all are amazing
I have 3 Carvins. I play the hell out of them.
I've had two Carvins. They sounded good and those thin necks were pretty easy to play. But, I've never had to adjust necks so often! It drove me nuts.
Hmm I've had a dc model since 96 and have never had to touch the truss rod. Its been used hard in various conditions. Maybe I just got a really good neck.
Nathan Milliken Similar experience had two lb70 & lb75 ended up selling them both

I agree Dave, Dennis Dunaway was a great bass player. Second to none.
Sweet tunes man ! Play that more !
Intonation for the Dave-o-Nation.
intonation for added frustration
My Icon 5 is a beast...extremely underrated.
Great vid dave, I own 12 Gibsons, 2 Fenders and a carvin dc 400 deluxe with a floyd in green burst its an awesome guitar, they make great stuff.
Yes! Dennis!
What's not to like about Carvin?
Or Alice Cooper?
Classy stuff.
Very nice bass
I'm not surprised the electronics are noisy. That's what I expected before I clicked on this. Every Carvin I've ever had that was the biggest issue.
Interesting, I didn't know that, actually. That's useful to know if I come across a used Carvin.
great stuff as usual!
After several tries at playing them, I realized that I am just not able to really get the hang of flatwounds. The slickness and lack of snap forces me to really attack them and I end up shredding my fingers after an hour.
That's because they arent meant for a snappy tone lmao
Remember the Coop! Dennis is great!
I have a Peavey Accelerator that has the same bushing issue on the tuners. Peavey never used the tuners with bushings like that again, and after replacing six different ones I know why.
Dennis Dunaway from Alice Cooper. Great stuff.
do you do only local work or do people send your their bass/guitars from out of town for work?
really dig this channel, cheers!
it sounds good cuz it D'addario EXL160 Nickel Wound Bass Guitar Strings, Medium, 50-105, Long Scale strings on it
Did you measure the string height with the capo on? Relief or string height first? Really like your stuff but would like to know what relief spec was used on the feeler gauge..?
What was the ground noises ?
That crackle.
Hahaha
Jason Butler I know!! What does a guitar repair channel have anything to do with a company selling guitar repair tools!!
OK Dave,
I'm waiting for the "I'm Carvin" joke.
Cheers! :-)
9:38 you missed it
Dead Babies!! You rock, Dave!
Dear Dave, how did you fixed the noise ??
That's the nicest tone I've heard from a bass. Good looking guitar, too. Out of business?
Renamed Kiesel Guitars and going strong, the audio division shut down it's amp, mixer and pa, now just makes in ear monitors, mics and three different tube preamp guitar pedals based on their most popular amplifiers.
Nice to know. Thanks for that. :)
hey Dave did you fix the scratchy switch? you didn't show
was wondering about the HUM issue.
HEART
I remember handing out "Mr Yuck" stickers in middle school and all I could think of was that song, Lol
Enjoy the brews Dave. Peace!
I'm glad you stopped playing that tune when you did-- I was getting a acid flashback.
OK Dave...I'm stumped. What was that you were playing?
Gotoh tuners?
the pickups look like ems like the Ibanez atk bass maybe ??
They make their own electronics and pickups, right down to the circuit boards. They have their own unique sound and are excellent. If you ever pull one apart, you can tell it's done properly inside as well - clean, well sorted, and no cheap labor cost-cutting.
Just about pay the client to set up that one.!
i have never been disappointed with Carvin. very precisely built , just depends on what was ordered originally.
Loved my carvin
Back when Carvin was actually Carvin, they made awesome instruments at a very affordable price. Since the son took over and changed the name to Kiesel and started is trying to complete with PRS, Suhr and Tom Anderson, their prices have gone through the fucking roof. What? No 5 String?
Nice bass!
... I'm In my room...I'm Carvin. Great sounding bass quite like the honey finish G+L SB2 jazz.
Just like the Who, "you say she's a virgin, I'll be the first in".
Carvin meat 😸
First time I've ever seen a Carvin bass
Alice Cooper?
Do not play bass. What is the difference between flats and rounds?
Flats have a smooth surface. They are mellower, higher tension and last forever. Roundwounds are "regular" strings, much brighter, but they fade with time.
flat wound strings more smooth sounding-- round wounds bit more snappy and twangy popping sound -- Im not an expert tho- ask Dave!!
Thanks for the info!
about $3 :)
+Roy Tofilovski Flats are available for guitar, as well (I use 'em on my Gibson ES-390).
Enjoy the Beer
That's a fine looking bass...
All my car in gear is quality and durable and beautiful.
Call the owner, and tell him someone stole it from you. Boom, it's yours! 🎵🎸
Dave you try Ford's buck a beer yet? lol
Dave is now a specialist in 5 strings.... why go back to 4? Allparts sells those plastic washers for the tuners.
i would like carvin bass better if it wasnt a sissy pointy headstock !
Don’t know why the Algorithm put this guy on my feed, but he’s a HACK.
GFO
Rollers? Why would a bass need a roller bridge? The best type of saddle for sustain and tone is a knife edge. I would change that bridge out and I bet it would improve substantially.
Because rollers dont slip
Kiesler or Kessler now ,
I never could hit a hole without hair around it.
That could be interpreted in more than just one way. You might want to rethink that one. Just sayin...
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff Dave, I am always very tolerant..... Anyone can aim for any hole they want, just not any of mine.....
No more Carvins...mutated into Kiesels.
Call Carvin? Yeah, good luck. They went out of business last year.
Same company, just a different name, now Kiesel instead of Carvin.
And Carvin is still making in ear monitors, microphones and two tube preamp pedals: A clone of their old X-100B and a copy of the Steve Vai Signature tube head.
1st!!!!
