I did this conversion about 18 years ago to my 1959 M-F 50 with a Z134 Continental engine one of best upgrades of done! I've only have replaced the plugs once & distributor cap & rotor button twice & I have never had to set timing again & I went with the flame thrower coil & custom colored plug wires as well & this conversion has paid for itself as far as not having to do regular tune ups & not to mention it's easier on your starter & my M-F 50 gets used year round even though I bought a newer tractor in 2018 a M-F 1526 diesel.

Good to know I could get two decades out of this upgrade. I was never very good at setting points so it's great knowing I'll never have to do it again. What color are your custom colored plug wires?

@@FIXYFIXYCHANNEL RED of course , I've also have installed them on 3 automobiles & a boat with a 4 cylinder I/O these are a top shelf conversion IMHO & all have been trouble free. Great video by the way & thanks for putting this out I just got tired of setting points period.

I have the same tractor same engine but mine has a srew on cap. I think it is a Delco distributer. Same unit work on mine?

I honestly don't know. You might want to check the website of the manufacturer of the digital ignition to see if delcos need a different model.

Great video! I see at the end of the video that there is some blue smoke coming out of the exhaust. Does the tractor burn oil? If so, how much? I have a 135 gasser that smokes just like that.

It does. My best guess is the valve guide seals. It's a very small amount (maybe 1 quart every couple of months) of oil so until it starts fouling plugs I will likely avoid replacing them but as soon as it's time to do the job I will definitely make a video of it.

@@FIXYFIXYCHANNEL I agree with you. My #1 plug would get fouled with black gunk...I just assumed it was too much oil getting in to that cylinder. When I checked the plug...it had a chunk of black carbon stuck to the ceramic tip. After that i replaced the plug and put in the electronic ignition. Plug hasn't fouled yet....but now it smokes under load. Not too bad when there isnt a load. I was hoping it would be a valve job and not rings. Next summer I might pull the head and do it.

These motors commonly have worn valve seal and it is the easier fix to start with but if you find out next summer let me know.
