Thanks for the great video Shawn. I am honored to have you comment on a number of my pieces. The Tree of Life piece was pierced and carved with my high speed nsk piercer carver.
I travelled from Connecticut for SWAT. Great show, sessions were great. You always learn something new there, and of course spend some money with the vendors! You meet some of the nicest people there.
Great overview as always, Shawn. Glad I got to run into you again. I always love this symposium because I learn something every time. And I get to hang out with other turners and swap ideas. And the gallery is always filled with so awesome pieces.
Nice - very nice tour! Really loved the tool tour best of all, but seeing all the different turning pieces was nice which gave me a couple of ideas I will try to apply. Thanks for taking the time to show off this show ... definitely Worth The Effort! lol
Great tour. Lots of tools but I really liked your take on some of the display pieces. I agree, the real joy is working with the wood, not forcing it to be what you want.
Thank you for another great SWAT video!! Enjoyed your gallery tour and the selection of pieces you commented on. Hope you'll make it again to Kerrville in October/November for the Texas Furniture Makers Show - would love to see a video of that too.
The triple finial is done on a rose engine lathe. A 3 lobe rosette gives the 3 stems. The twist is done via a different mechanism that gears the spindle rotation to longitudinal travel of the cutter. I'm not into rose engine lathes enough to know what it's called.
What’s the name of the ‘not a long worth chuck’. I’ve tried to find it on your video and list of vendors at away, but alas I can’t. Google doesn’t know what I’m talking about either. Can you help please. By the way a truly great video. With lots of thought provoking stuff.
Around the 8:22 mark there is a "Sure Grip" chuck. Can you give me a contact information? I cannot find anything on the internet and I cannot make out any information from the flyer he displays. Thanks for the information on the SWAT.
Hi Shawn. Thank you for putting my deep textured platter 'Ocean Sunrise' front and center on this video's thumbnail. Another fun and info filled SWAT video. I'm sorry I didn't get the chance to meet you there.
It’s NOT a longworth chuck. ???Ok then. WHAT IS IT ?? It’s never mentioned what it IS or how to find it ??? It’s at 8:16 into video. Great product and no one mentions its name or how to find it. From the sign he removed I am guessing it’s called sure grip ?
Really cool Shawn, it was great to see you.

What is the company making a much improved version of the Longworth chuck, please? Would dearly like to find out where I could get one.
You should break the world record for Matryoshka dolls.
how do you keep track of the items you make incase someone a year down the road wants you make another one?
Who made the (what looks like a "gong") @1:52?
