    Great review. I have several MB149s and Pelikan M1000s and I have to say the build quality, feel and postability of the Pelikan pen makes it the hands-down winner between the two. Cheers, Steve

    Good review. I am very fond of my M1000's. I love those nibs. I do not really "write" with those nibs, I "paint" with them. I literally draw my letters, which makes them sharp and very well formed. It is a lot of fun to write in that way.

    A cool detail on Pelikan that you didn't mention, is that they invented the differential piston ink-filling mechanism

    • @hendrikvanger7730
      @hendrikvanger7730 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      They didn't invent it, but purchased the patent from its inventor, a Hungarian called Theodor Kovacs. With this system they released the first piston pen, the pelikan 100, in 1929

    Great review. I completely agree with your assessment. I lean for my M1000 over my M800 more since I love the soft feel of the nib. An M1000 filled with Pelikan's 4001 Dark Green was my pen of choice for Christmas cards last year. That ink's a perfect match for the pen. Look into the M300 to complete the family. It's comically tiny compared to the M1000 but still has everything down to the same piston.

    Thank you David, your reviews are increasingly the gold standard-- along with Matt and Stephen and also increasingly , Kerry. I love my own m1000. I too have green and wish they did the blue and red. I may go with a black at some point. I've never watched a review yet where the connection between the Souveran theme and the cap finiel is suggested as a crown. If one looks at the pen in profile the crown shape jumps out at me. Could just be my own wacky eye!! Very best!

  • @FirstFlyte

    Thanks for the review David. My only issue with my Pelikan Souveran M805 is that I'm not a fan of the fairly crisp step-down at the very back of the pen. I feel they could have made the piston-filling knob just a little wider at the base to make the transition between the barrel and the knob seemless. I see the M1000 has the same design (I've seen it on the 600 as well). Cheers!

    Thanks for the historical background. Haha yes the Pelikan in the add looks like it OS dropping from oil! I grew up with Pelikan pens at school (in Germany) it was what I had. But never enjoyed fountain pens back then. I think I had the wrong ones. Today I am deep in it but after the not so great Pelikan experiences I am wary of that brand. I seem to be a Lamy and Pilot girl. Haha. Seeing these flagship pens by Pelikan (which to me is synonym to school pen) is weird to me!

    Hi, great review. In my opinion your nib is not as perfect as it could be. In your writing example, at the beginning, we can hear that a nib groans a bit. It could be due to the fact that your write with your pen a bit rotated to the left or there are some impurities in nib tipping - like alignement, roughness of the surface and many other. It is like the nib is exhausted during writing.

    Hello, sorry for bothering you with such issues but I'm just a student and such an investment means a lot to me. A pen like this is a "lifetime investment". I have been following your channel for a very long time and I have watched most of your reviews regarding flex nib fountain pens. Today please help me to choose 1 between these two. For me the doubts are,
    1) 912 FA is a bit scratchy if even a little amount of oil is on the paper. How big of a problem is this
    2) I couldn't totally be sure if the line variation of M1000 is the same as that of 912 FA. Please let me know your thoughts.
    3) Is the extra investment for M1000 really worth it?
    Please help me.

    • @FigbootonPens
      @FigbootonPens  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While they both are nice, personally, I would not care to write with a FA nib for an extended period of time. Just not my style. Whether the price of the M1000 is "worth it", is a rather subjective question...but I feel it brings more to to the table than a 912.

    David, magnificent review as always. I have an M800, and keep telling myself that I don’t need an M1000, but I just don’t know. Now, if you’ll permit me once more to correct your German pronunciation. You made a comment about butchering the German, and you were right on. Unfortunately. To me, as a native German speaker, it sounds like someone running their fingernails down the blackboard. You’re trying too hard. The minor error: the final syllable in Souverän is pronounced “enn,” so just read it as if it were written “Souverenn.” It is German, after all, not French, so there is no nasal final n. (Unless there’s some proprietary pronunciation that the company uses, though I rather doubt that. But the really egregious error is the one commonly made by English speakers, and that’s the umlaut ü as in grün. It’s NOT pronounced “groon,” as you have it. In fact, “green” would be closer to the mark. So just say “green,” and no German speaker will wince. In fact, to render the precise sound, try saying “green,” and purse your lips while saying it, or even “groon” while pursing your lips, and you’ll be fairly close to it. Just as Meisterstück can be almost correctly pronounced “Meistershtick,” but NEVER Meistershtook.” Oh, I know, I’ve criticized your German pronunciation before. Forgive me. I just can’t help it. 😔 keep up the good work. Eric-linguist, retired prof, and native German speaker

    Hey man, you should make a video on how to budget for buying fountain pens, how to not get too carried away and buy too much for too much money or something like that. I guess you would have enough fountain pens to buy a new house with. Maybe. How can you justify all that expense? Just wanna know. Not saying that it's bad or anything.

    You seem to write with some amount of pressure, the pen should allow you to write with a very light touch.

    The retailers can purchase different packaging from the manufacturer? I never knew that and I think that’s a terrible idea, it totally destroys the brand identification. Can you imagine if Apple allowed retailers to change their packaging? So you can sell a $500 pen for $460 - But destroy the consumer experience and brand identification - who makes these horrible decisions = poor management.

    ZOO - FER - RAIN. Not SUE - VER -ANN . It’s German David , and it has an umlaut.
