Journeying Back Into The Past - Threlkeld to Keswick Railway Walk

- In this video I return to the former Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway. This line, that once linked Penrith to Cockermouth and West Cumbria, sadly closed in 1972, but the line between Keswick and Threlkeld has been converted into a pleasant walk. In this video, as well as showing what the route is like today, includes archive video of when it was a working railway.
Great video. The longer tunnel wasn't always used for the walk, it only started getting used from 2020/2021 when the full length of the route was up and running again after the repair work and the replacement bridges were completed. Prior to the floods and the damage getting done, the route went (travelling from Keswick direction) to the left of the reopened tunnel and under the road bridge, and then went right and rejoined the railway footpath at the other end of reopened tunnel. It used to be possible to see the very top most part of the tunnel arch when you rejoined the railway footpath at this point.
Good video, coveted the line well with historic video clips.
Great video
Very enjoyable. I visited the area in 2019, and stayed near Threlkeld. I was not aware of the walk. I spent most of my time in Keswick. Thank you for taking me on the walk, as I won't ever be back to do it myself (I live in Australia)
@@gailstevens6831 there are lots of places to visit, so if you do ever get back, try and see more of the area.
River Greta is pronounced Greeta
You can pronounce it either way, why be so pedantic.
