  • Went out to rip up the yard. Had the GoPro on board and an external mic setup for some awesome footage & sound. Over drove it a bit to keep the video interesting! It is powered with a Honda Interceptor 700cc street bike engine. This was shot with GoPro H3 Black & edited with Power Director 11. To watch the first video of this on blacktop far from done yet (~1991) click here • Homemade Go Kart Donu... or a burnout on the blacktop in the middle of the winter click here • Homebuilt Go Kart in A... I hope you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching Jeff.

    This is just an incredible build by some super talented and fun guys! So cool to watch this thing come to life through the different videos. It must be insane fun to have and drive!!

      gratefulRed69 Thanks man! There were times that I wondered what posses one to do such a project. I do like when you get to the point where it is considered done and probably no more things will get added on or changed. I guess the best part is on how hard it gets run and stays together. It does drive great and is easy to handle with the longer wheel base and the 4 pedals. Not much time for day dreaming when your hard on the throttle tho...

    Just found this, you have a massive amount of time in it, and the finished project shows it. I love how all the gauges/lights work, and that you take the time to tear it all down to paint. I see welding, engine, machining, electrical, fabrication and body work, and it all looks top notch!

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hello stretch44875. I had built many karts in the past and wanted to create one that would exceed the past builds. My older builds looked crude but preformed nice. I actually have some 8mm video of some of them. Maybe I'll post it someday! There was a lot of things we'd weld up and didn't look strong enough or maybe perform properly so they got scrapped. I must admit I never visioned this look for the final results. I would like to Thank You for your appreciation of all the efforts involved to create the kart!

    How long did it take for you to build this?

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It took over a year of spare time. It started out as a single seater with much smaller wheels. We'd weld things together, didn't like it and cut stuff back apart again. Some kind of plans would of been a good idea but we had a lot of fun on the build & it had a happy ending! I do have footage of the build but it's not as clear as today's standards. (1990) Still might see if I can produce it in the future as time permits.

    Yeah I like to run that on the edge to keep the video entertaining! Those new GoPro camera's are really additive. They include a remote now too. Mount camera anywhere & turn on / off and view status at a glance + 3 view angle adjustable. I was very happy on the mic setup too with no wind noise or volume loss where they accommodate for wind noise. The mic was a mod creation here too. Spent a bunch of time on setup's & tests. But hey - Really glad you enjoyed the vid :>)

    Hi 2jeffs1, I love the videos and really like what you do with go karts. I'm just getting into karting and I have a few questions. I was wondering if you could Turbocharge a go kart and actually get good results and if i put two 16hp engine in a kart and use tires that weigh up to about 20 pounds per tire if you think it will go fast? Thank you for the awesome Go karts and videos!

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      hardr0cker64 Hello hardr0cker64. Your ideas there would make for a aw sum build. I do enjoy turbocharged engines but never claimed to be an expert on them. What is more readily available is what gets used here to make the build easier & keep the costs down. If this would be your first build even keeping things more simple don't matter. The fact is that it is something you created. I hope you got some ideas on my vid's to help on your build & Thank You for watching, Jeff

    I doubt if many people realize the amount of trial and dedication a build like this entails because it's so difficult to really show all the work involved. After watching the construction videos from the early 90's, I doubted this kart would still be around. It's fun and inspiring to see it in gorgeous shape and still in the builder's hands. Huge kudos.

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your thoughts. I very much enjoy reading all the comments. There are times where I look back at that and wonder what possessed me to take that build on. Once one gets the first ride then things seem so worth all the time invested. I always hope the younger kids that watch these vid's don't think this was my first build. They should realize that many karts were built previous to this which were all a learning experience to work my way up to this one.

      @2jeffs1  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      hngarza386 Thank you for your nice comment hngarza386. There was more time invested this than a total car resto takes. So many things were unknown on how to pull it off until that day arrived. Of course then one has the things that were supposedly done but a week later didn't like that idea so... There are times too where I'll be working on a project and a friend stops in. They will actually mention a way which something could be done/look a little better. I really like when others see things that I didn't and speak up where they know that won't upset me!

      Black Majik Yeah - original intentions were to build a simple one seater with a big motor. Then the why not's took over and the Go Kart name still stuck with it except the girlfriend started calling it the Cadillac Go Kart! Have a vid I've just shot & been working on where I put pizza cutter tires on the rear and ripped up the blacktop. How long will they last? LOL Will be posted shortly...

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gurman Sandhu This was a build from scratch. Never have any prints just a vision and go from there. What ever parts on hand or things I seen in the past which are cost effective/easily available is what ends up getting used. Did a lot of re-do before it was finished. Get so far, didn't like something or think of a better way, well then make some changes. We always laughed the changes off. We called it "Put the part on cut the part off" Actually at first it was supposed to be a 1 seater with no suspension. Many why not thoughts came into play while building so.....

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      patspina707 Ideally to have a narrowed posi car rear end vs the live axle setup would be the hot ticket. When both rear hubs are locked in and you are turning there is a noticeable binding - especially on the pavement - and if your pushing it by hand out of the shed. That would be neat to put into production but I'm just a small time shop here. :) But hey - glad you enjoyed the vid and Thank You for your comment!

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Anthony. Never kept track of the cost to build where many of the parts used were things that were on hand here. The rims and tires were the most expensive thing and don't remember the cost where that was many years ago now. The engine was obtained on a trade for an old Honda 750 air cooled and some $ to boot. Keep in mind too that I did build multiple karts prior to this one which made it easier but still was a challenge. Some trial and error is going to be involved on these one of a kind builds!

      Dustin Allen Hi Dustin, Glad your digg'in the vid's. Where this was built in the early 90's The build was in the area of $1,500.00 at that time. The Honda engine/trans had only 3,000 miles on it so paid a bit more cause of that. I traded the 750 Honda air cooled engine that was first installed and can't remember the exact figure. If thinking on doing a build maybe look for something with higher mileage & save some $$$. Usually the motorcycle engines just need the carbs cleaned out to run good again. Deals are out there. The problem can be being patient for them to come about....

    You would get a bigger top speed if you put a bigger sprocket on the axle but less exeloration

    Hello Jeff from SE Pennsylvania. I really like the cart and hope you’ll be able to repair or rebuild it soon. Maybe you’ve seen some comments here requesting more info on the build? Like others, I’d be very interested to know what components were used so I’ll check other vids on your channel to see if you’ve already covered this elsewhere. Thanks, and God’s speed to you for a full recovery on your loss.

      I have the Honda 200x pretty much done, Pulled the frame here. Took the kart to a car frame shop several days ago. Another friend told me that guy is really good. Stopped Monday - weird for me to have someone doing things for me. Looks very, very good what he has done so far. The kart will live on!
