    What do you think? Is a 944 Turbo better than a similar era 911 Carrera? Also, BUY MY 944 TURBO! It's for sale: bringatrailer.com/listing/1986-porsche-944-turbo-241/

      Sorry mate, have a transaxle-porsche specialist no 2 miles from here, in Germany.
      Can relate to everything you emphasize. Lots of fun, little hassles, low price.
      Who can afford to forego the full label-brag, will be very well equipped with a transaxle Porsche.
      Every Porsche-interested person should make up his/ her mind about image vs driving-fun.
      'nuff said, at this point. 😉

    Ethan, To me the best aspect of this car and other performance cars of this era is the sidewall. Oversized rims are for posing, nothing more nothing less.

    • @RetroCarsForever
      @RetroCarsForever ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes!! Fat sidewalls help with ride and predictable handling. They slowly lose grip instead of suddenly breaking away…maybe not what one wants for raw performance numbers but def nice to have in canyons

    • @HelloRoad
      @HelloRoad  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Totally agree. And huge rims suck for daily driving. My Type R came with 20"s and it was terrible in so many ways! Every bump felt like I was damaging the car. Swapped with 18", soooo much better.

    You’ve owned this car for almost as long as I’ve known ya, so I’m sad to see it go, just seemed like a very “you” car and I totally get the appeal of a well used Porsche that you can drive the heck out of, guilt free.
    Happy trails 944! GLWS

    Always love seeing your 944. My personal favorite Porsche from the 80s. My neighbor had one when I was a kid and he would let me sit in the driver's seat sometimes. I wish that I could justify buying it.

    Center console "Volume" knob is actually a front/back speaker fader. Why it wasn't integrated into the head unit itself?? Only a German engineer would know.

      Actually fairly common back then. Seen it in Mercedes, Volvo and other cars too. Perhaps the head units did not have this feature then? I.e. only two speaker outputs.

    Hey, the dash in my US-Imported 944 Turbo is actually not cracked :D
    Dont know if you've noticed but your car has been modified, I see an early lindsey racing boost enhancer, the stock airbox has been removed completely and now youve got a cold air intake pointing directly to the fender, chances are you've got a MAF upgrade as well.
    Also your "aftermarket steering wheel" is from the old, gigantic german tuner company D&W in Bochum. They were huge and had their prime time in the 80s and 90s. If you still have that wheel I'm certainly one to sell it to. haha!
    Best regards from germany!

    A friend had one, traded it for a Corvette as the 944 was to slow for his tastes. I ended up buying the Corvette from him and it ran 13.60 corrected quarter mile times so it was a weird factory freak and fast.

    I don't think they're underappreciated at all. In fact they've becime over appreciated just like air cooled 911s. They used to be underappreciated but as with any car when TH-camrs start talkkg about them the prices goes wwy up. Look I'm a Porsche guy. When i was a kid i took the 959's side over the F40. I think the 930 is one of the sexiest cars ever made snd I love 944s, but even the turbis aren't really that fast and the regular 944s are very very slow. I know there's more than just soeed and power, you're twlikg to a 93 NA Miata owner who is leaving the 1.6l in anf keeping it stock, but I'm sirry 30k is just too kcuh for these and that's bakit where they are. You can't even find a decent base model for under 10 any longer.. 2-4k was underpriced, which is where tjey were for a lonh time but the only way you'll find ine at rhsg price is if it's broken.

    I’m a happy long term owner of a 944s2 cabriolet. I bought the car, the year I turned 50: which just so happened to coincide with the same year I was promoted to O6 (Navy Captain). My dash….no cracks. My odometer reset…still works. ( I seem to recall, that you don’t want to push that reset button while moving, or you’ll break that brittle nylon gear). I now live in New England….so I do “mothball” her 6=7 months of the year (no salt, sleet or slush on her, dammit. Maybe on my wife…but not on my car!). I like your side view mirrors….I also really like your headlights! Neat mods! But I’d be lying if I didn’t admit to some “911-envy”….and I’ve “window shopped” for the right one. But….the 944 still gets comments, looks, questions….so I think, I’ll keep her….because she does handle like she’s on rails! Great video, brother….and your car’s scars and mileage….and she still performs…..a testament to Porsche engineers of yesteryear! best of luck to you!

    I used to have a 944 Turbo. It was great until it broke a camshaft. Couldn't find anybody who knew how to work on the engine or find parts so I got rid of it. The guy swapped a 4G63 into it lol. But dude! I saw you have a second gen probe GT. That's awesome. I have a first gen probably north of 500 WHP at 33 PSI on an HX35. Check out my channel. Hope to see you build that probe!

    • @p.informatico1320
      @p.informatico1320 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SAMMYJR00777 It depends on what you consider "better"... 924 is waaay better than the 944/968 and the 928 in maintenance costs, cause a lot of parts are of VW origin and shared with a lot of budget models of this group, and for those of us who are poor, that counts a lot... And if you want more horsepower without the maintenance costs of a Porsche engine, you can also get an Audi 1.8T 20VT swap kit, which are fairly common and cheap, and get up to 222 HP stock.
