The back flip to be successful…you need to take off and land on both feet side by side and not legs akimbo. Many male skaters, including a few Canadian skaters, have incorporated the backflip as their own trademark and always landed solidly on both feet together. He is a master of the quad but until he can master the backflip… he should keep it out of competition as it demeans his program.
I don't know how many times I have seen this performance, but I keep watching it! It gives me goosebumps! Ilia stole my heart seven months ago at Ghiaccio Spettacolo with a performance of Tout l'univers, and I have been following him since then-definitely it's worth it!

@ I think a lot of people would agree with you that this is better than his succession program. It’s a tough call for me I do believe he is more connected to this music as well as his short program music this season. My heart has that World’s FS though it’s going to be tough to beat not sure even Ilia himself could top it.
This young man is a joy to watch on the ice. His body and expression move beautifully athletically, and his expression during his skating is acting. I like to look at the old skating shows in where he participated, and I am astounded by how fast and beautifully this boy- the young man has heightened his skill

Am I the only one that can see Ilia is improving every competition? With so little time between two back-to-back GPs, he’s still able to add in some new movements. And he managed to skate clean the sp and make only one error in the free with a total score of 301. Wow, just wow. He’s unstoppable. Besides, his commitment to the program is the best in the field. His passion and energy is superb.
I’ve been watching figure skating since I was in grade school and I’m 64 now and this young man is the best I’ve seen in all those years. His artistry does not suffer at all with the required skills. He is an artist in ice.
For me this was his best performance so far. He is really improving - we know he can do the tricks, but this felt like a real start to finish experience. wtg Ilia!

In the first event I saw him in, I got the impression of a Shaquille O'Neal type, an incredible amount of physical ability and drive and just towering over everyone else, but raw and prone to mistakes. I felt that if he took the time to rein in his power, learn some elegance, clean up his landings, and gain some confidence, he'd become an amazing force. And he did. 😮😄🎆 We could be seeing the start of a dynasty, folks. He really is _that_ good.

Passion, connection to the music, connection to the audience, charisma, gorgeous face and hair, kids got it all and then some. The other skaters are just getting the job done, Ilia is putting his heart and soul into it. His short program was beautiful too in this event
I'm not sure why this clip ended up in my feed but I'm thrilled that it did. Exquisite skating. But above that, I just have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the musical track. One of my favorites although obviously edited drastically from the original. I have been watching figure skating for more than 50 years and even skated some myself as a child. I love the evolution of it over the years especially with the use of rock and metal music. It's not only a sport, it's also art and should have a broad appeal and representation. 🤘😎🤘
