    • @bigkification
      @bigkification 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yep definitely. Best thing you can do for the environment is to drive the car you have right now, for as long as possible, as efficiently as possible. Of course if you have a 4.2 V8 Range rover, you would be better switching to a more economical car but for 80% of cars which are "normal", it hold true.
      I've got a 2009 2.0 diesel Peugeot 407 Coupe. Weighs 1650kg. I had a hire 2017 Ford Mondeo Hybrid which also weighs 1650kg. Took it on the same journey as the 407 (60mph, efficient driving as possible). The Ford got 42mpg. The 407 gets 61mpg in that same journey.

    Being from the other side of the world I love road trip vids. My dad used to renew a subscription to Car magazine for me every Christmas going way back and a big part of the enjoyment was the road tests as road trips. I got to know Europe & the UK from the other side of the world. Combining your usual review style would be a good combo with road trips. That's the only thing I thought was missing from this one - the full run down of Ravs in general.
    Btw that sun visor thing must be a Toyota thing. Have had several do that and have learned to silicon spray the hinged pin side to reduce the force that (in my cases) cracks the plastic friction mount.

    I know what this feels like. I've driven from up near Preston to the Algarve in Portugal a fair few times in a 2003 Kia Shuma II. Its possibly the most drab car I've ever driven, but somehow I admire its determination to just keep going. Its never missed a beat and I've inherited it from my parent's now so still run around in it occasionally. I did make the trip a bit easier on myself by getting the ferry from Portsmouth to Santander though. Taking that route means its possible to do it in 2 days instead of 3, even in a Kia Shuma!

    The now wife (who's from Malaga) and I did this about 10 years ago but from Liverpool. Peugeot 406 coupe which had a few problems going into the journey. En route the catalytic converter broke down. Going downhill was fine but going uphill the cat would roll backwards and block the exhaust. We had to stay in the worst hotel - live shorting electric wires sticking out of the walls - whilst we got it repaired. Two kids later and we just fly it now. Definitely want to drive it again though.
    Where about in Málaga are you staying?

    2:05 i relate to the pain of the freelander. My parents had one for about 11 years. It had a persistent coolant leak that wasn’t worth shelling out the money to fix and many other electrical niggles and gremlins. Can’t even tell you the exact amount of times the electric windows gave in. Anyway great video 🙌

      My parents have had a 05 td4 Freelander since 09 and to be fair to it, it's been reliable typical land rover window regulators, it had a clutch/flywheel at 130,000 (it is used regularly to tow so quite good for considering) and a high pressure fuel pump about 3 years ago apart from that it's done well it gets driven most of the time by my mother with absolutely no mechanical sympathy at all and all she has managed to break is the button for the drivers heated seat somehow in all it's been a good car

    My Toyota Yaris is 16 years old and im going to sound like Scotty Kilmer here, but for how long i have had it it has been the most reliable car i have ever had. If it ever packs up then i will definitely by another. But at the moment there are no signs of that ! Toyota’s are the most dependable vehicles on the market, sure they are not as desirable as a Merc or a BMW or a Range Rover but it will never leave you stranded.
    Source : my family have been in the vehicle repair business for over 40 years.
    Im glad the Old Rav4 made it what a great well engineered vehicle 😀👍

    Like your vlogs as they are sensible and informing without the bullshit from many others. I also have driven to Spain by car from Scottish Borders. In 2006 ( age 66) with a 1998 Subaru Outback with 165,000 on the clock and to Barcelona. Then again in 2011 in a Toyota Avensis with 158000 Mls, to Alicante. Both ran sweetly for the duration and both done within 72 hrs. The only reason to buy a new car is to impress your neighbours.
