    Great stuff. I was lucky enough to spend a couple of weeks fly-fishing the South Island ten years back. Got into some huge, beautiful fish in pristine surroundings. Absolute bucket-list stuff. This video brings me back and gives me a craving for an ice cold Speight's.

    From what I understand New Zealand has some of the best Trout fishing in the world, and fish that size are quite common.

    Beautiful trout and amazing area to spend a day. When you first said you had a 2 hour hike to get there, doubted anywhere was worth a 2 hour hike, but that place is well worth a 2 hour hike, even just to sit and relax. Thanks for sharing your adventure.

    Great day on beautiful water. Really interesting, kind of Tongariro style blind nymphing (but ultra slow mo in those deep pools), so the fish obviously don't spook like in some back country rivers. Wade into a pool and blind fish like that in the South Island and you spook just about everything.

    • @TroutHuntingNZ
      @TroutHuntingNZ  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it’s a bit different to South Island. You can only get away with this early season. You have to treat it a lot differently in a month more like South Island

    Looks like that stream your fishing would be a prime candidate for "native fish only"
    Have you heard about the freshwater fish bill being pushed by Eugenic Sage. Relegates trout to 2nd class fish citizens. Indigenous fish would have a higher status than trout. At their whim The Department Of Cull would/could set the management regime for waters they decide to to designate “native fish only areas”. Deadlines for submissions against this bill are 25th October 2018. Don’t think it will happen? The Kaiwharawhara stream in Wellington has already had ALL trout removed!!
    All anglers and other interested parties need to oppse this by making a submission by 25th October 2018

      @@HardinProuductionsOriginal hey here in NZ we have boarding houses! They're like $50 a night (in comparison to $150+ a night even in motels) and that includes three full meals a day, cleaning etc! Also if you want to plan a holiday, book plane tickets a year in advance and they'll be a quarter of the price. Sadly the reason it's so expensive to fly here is because we only have one flight company :( even flying around the country is expensive, Wellington to Auckland is $150 at the absolute least, but on average about $300. It fucking sucks. But until there's more competition or oil becomes cheaper we'll all be stuck with those prices.
