Took me a while to watch this one! Completely missed it for some reason 🧐. I’ve not looked back since moving away from the 360 to be honest. It’s painful exporting the footage! Great to see you back in the air!
The brain of vlogging and cameras. I had the same issues on my Scotland trip. I've been told using a Mac to process the 360 footage is almost as live editing. Cracking flight.
I have a love hate relationship with GoPro's, I curse them constantly and can never rely on them (which is why I have a 5 camera setup as one is sure to fail). However, like a fool when a new one comes out I buy it hoping they've sorted all the issues..............................they never have 😞 Love the video Geoff.
I’m confident that cameras are by far the most frustrating part about all this aviation YouTubing! 😄 I don’t even want to know how much I’ve spent with GoPro & Insta360 over the years 😵💫😔… & will probably continue to spend 🤷🏻♂️😂
Nice video again, despite the technical difficulties. I see that Kittyhawk airfield is up for sale - a mere £5m including a house and a fair bit of land.
I’ll get it sorted! That’s why I tend to use so many, there’s always one (or two) that let the side down! 😄 Thanks for watching again! Always good to see you back 👍🏼
They hardly had space to move!!! I totally understand though, in this country as soon as we see any kind of sunshine we all jump on the opportunity to get out & enjoy it!!! 😂
It might have been a bit of a local flight for you but it made for a very good video Geoff. Always interesting when you say something to camera and then ... "The air is surprising still today" then wham! Followed by the pleased reaction to the cameras coming on. Nice that you mention Giles and Nick (our small TH-cam flying community) and I will certainly check out Michael's work.
Thank you very much sir 🫡 We must organise a meet up once my brake callipers are back together & functioning properly, & once (if ever) the weather improves 🤞🏼
Hi, loved the video, stunning scenery and well put together. I have recently started a channel showing me flying a blue Eurofox that I rent in the north of England. Fly with Frank and Pam if you would like to take a look. All the best, Frank.
@@FlyingDarkLord yes I’m slowly improving them. The Windermere and Coniston are my best at the moment but really enjoy making them and luckily Pam my partner has really taken to being passenger.
Another super video. It gives me an urge to go visit more airfields in the motorglider. I'm eyeing up a trip to Goodwood - though this would require a bit of radio with a proper flight information service.
Goodwood is a great place to visit because, despite it being popular & looking intimidating, it has a great team working there that are incredibly welcoming! I’m sure you’ll love it! We just need some good weather now!!!! 😭😄👍🏼
Another good one Geoff. I use Anker Power packs to run my two GoPros and remove the cameras batteries to avoid the GoPro habit of overheating. With 128Gb SD cards, I just start recording before getting into the aeroplane and leave it running until landing, saves the temperamental app or fob from falling over at its whim.
Thank you so much 😊👍🏼 I did try hard wiring the cameras in as you suggested, but the vibration eventually saw the USB connectors drop out 😔 Also, the only cameras I could do that with were the ones in the cockpit… these were the easiest to access in flight if there was ever an issue (that I identified). There are so many features I would be willing to sacrifice in an ‘action camera’ for the sake of reliability 🤷🏻♂️
I love your videos! I passed my PPL skills test at Goodwood this week and your videos have given me a lot of inspiration for routes I want to fly myself.
Congratulations!!! That is wonderful news, especially given the horrible weather we have had to endure this summer! I’m looking forward to seeing you out & about 👍🏼 Thanks so much for watching & also for your kind comment 😊🙏🏻
Yes, it was PilotAware, but I have to admit that I find the unit that I have installed is a little unreliable with its reporting. It may give a warning & then the aircraft disappears from the screen, occasionally reappearing, sometimes not 🤷🏻♂️ I’ve taken to not focusing on it too much & if I have a warning, glance at the screen to see if it shows & then look out the window irrespective. On that occasion I heard two warnings but no aircraft was displayed with the usual height/heading information 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Video content looks great as always. I have also stoped using my Insta360 because the time taken to edit and render the resulting images. I have consider getting the GoPro Max (GoPro's 360 camera), but not sure it would be any different.
Hey Geoff. Another interesting video. Odd you are having issues. For the last dozen flights I've been using my go pro set up and had no issues at all other than user errors. What go pros are you using. I use the max on the wing capturing 360 footage, but agree the editing takes ages! Inside I use a hero 8 and then the hero 11 with the media mod to get audio and footage. Great as no syncing is required. Also means with the media mod you get audio ports for easy connection to the headset. Also allows for external power supply too so you never loose your main audio and camera the whole flight no matter how long. The only real issue I've heard of is recording in full quality for extended periods, they struggle to stay cool. Be interesting to hear your feed back. Regards, Mike
Hi Mike, So my set up was almost identical to yours. The Hero 8s have been FANTASTIC! I recorded audio separately with an H1N from Zoom. I then added a Hero 10, which only worked on the wing, as this kept it cool. More recently I bought two Hero 9s… these I used for the first time in this video with both ending in disaster! 🤦🏻♂️ The only reason I changed was because my X2 & one of my Hero 8s started to become unreliable. I’m hoping future iterations of these cameras iron out the problems we are having, but I’m in no rush to waste more money until evidence supports an improvement 🤞🏼 I don’t mind audio & video synchronising (as this is but the work of a moment), but editing 180 mins of 360’ camera footage is just not viable (for me, at least) 😊👍🏼
@FlyingDarkLord I know exactly what you mean. I love having the 360 on the wing as I can always look back in editing and find what I'm talking about and look at it, which is great. However, I can never be bothered to sit there and edit it all.
The sea scenery is breathtaking! Aah those cameras live a life of their own.. i bought a new dji action 3 camera which i had to return, as it had focusing problems as i later found out (from the factory). So that's not reassuring. It is teadious to edit the 360 footage, but i got used to it, too bad that my 360 footage is not as crisp as i would like. So i am playing the waiting game for now, i also wanted to buy a lesser new model of the gopro, but after your video i maybe will not 😅 Thank you for the video, always a pleasure watching the blue EuroFOX in flight ;)!
I don’t think that any single manufacturer has got the recipe correct yet 🤷🏻♂️ I’m hoping that eventually we get something with a reasonable battery life & good image stabilisation that records video consistently… not much to ask, surely 🤔
Hi Doc! Interesting with the near miss. Probably not reportable but it still feels close when it happens. I was heading for Sandown last autumn with a mate onboard. Just passing Stoney X sqwarking 0011 when another aircraft called Bmth for a basic service and gave same course and location as us. I told my mate to look out for him and he spotted him a few seconds later, a P28 maybe 300 yds right 200 ft above directly right abeam of us. Don’t think he ever knew we were there and Bmth never gave him an airprox report. Conclusion……use the mark one eyeball at all times! So much enjoy your videos mate!
Agree with you totally sir! It’s all well & good having all these TVs on board, but the eyeballs are the best tool for the job, provided we remember to point them out the window 👍🏼 Thanks for watching my friend, great to have your support 😊🙏🏻
I am so fortunate to have it! I must say that is the best thing I have ever owned on my time on this planet!!! Flying brings such great joy, as I’m sure you appreciate 😊👍🏼
I was lucky enough to get into the market before aviation prices went nuts!!! I think I can now sell my aircraft (second hand) for more than I bought it new!!! It’s crazy out there 😅

They are amazing & it looks like September brings with it a raft of new cameras to tempt us! 😂
Video qualioty and colors are very good on this video. Maybe just the sunny day. Thanks for letting us fly with you.

😂😂Very nice video sir. Im still thinking about TH-cam, but I don't have your smooth calm voice and Debonair looks.......😁. Thanks for the shoutout.
😂😂😂 well, I think you disproved your own argument against doing it with that statement!!! Get on that computer!!!
Do it! 👍

Wow! 😮 I hope it goes to someone with a passion for aviation, rather than a developer 🤞🏼
If I had the money… I’d probably buy another plane 😄
It’s a shame you’re experiencing camera troubles, Geoff, but even so, you’re still managing to shoot some amazing footage 😱👌
