My favorite detail about Shadow’s gameplay is the fact he actually teleports onto locked on enemies instead of the traditional homing attack. Just another cool way to make him feel more unique to Sonic!

I am so excited, but a little nervous. As a Shadow fan since his first appearance, it has pained me seeing him turn from a traumatized character to hero to now an “edge lord” (the guns don’t help either). I am praying that this Shadow is more like how he was in Sonic Adventure 2 or Sonic 06. I also hope that this game irons out his backstory into something more understandable. I am so eager to see more of his backstory and friendship with Maria.

Same here, I just hope they keep his edgelord stuff to a minimum. Hell, he shed a tear near the end of Sonic Adventure 2, at least let him crack a smile Sega.
This will make up for the utter disappointment that was Sonic Superstars.
I blame the guns, the mild language & the fans for making him an unsmiley edgelord who doesn't care about anything but himself as I wouldn't be surprised Sega made him forget about Maria.
If silver the hedgehog was a 3rd playable character, I would buy sonic generation expansion in a heartbeat.
My big concern is this becoming Sonic Generations X Episode Shadow, with the "Side Story" just being three levels and two bosses.

It's Sonic X Shadow. So while remaining optimistic, I think he will have a large role in the game. Atleast better then he did in Sonic forces

I'm actually quite concerned for the story of this game. Ian Flynn is a fantastic writer, but his characterization of Shadow in the IDW comics is really poor. Shadow's just the edgy, arrogant, uncaring douchebag that we saw in the Shadow the Hedgehog game. He doesn't even acknowledge Rouge or E-123 Omega as his friends.
I know it's not technically Ian's fault with all the mandates that SEGA has put into place about how certain characters should be written, but I honestly have no reason to believe why they would lift those mandates for this game.
Bringing back obscure yet important characters like Biolizard and Black Doom already sold me on this game, hope it’s executed well

Iirc, Ian Flynn confirmed the Time Eater in Sonic Generations was supposed to be formed by what was left of Mephiles after Sonic '06, and that was supposed to appear in a deleted scene or something.

I finally noticed that Sega is focusing on his teleportation powers. Cutscenes were pretty much the only times he used them.
I’m definetely starting to understand why they bundled this with generations, I don’t think they were very confident in releasing another solo shadow game on its own

Shame I would have loved to play Shadow the hedgehog 2 the only bad thing about the original game in my opinion was the Ark / Maria levels. Everything else had tons of potential the game was at least good & not mediocre or down right terrible like every other modern Sonic game to come out what wasn't Mania.
honestly I don't care about anymore sonic ports or remakes after seeing Colours Ultimate & Origins my hype level is extremely low this is probably just Forces episode shadow all over again shadow the hedgehog 2 would at least show the fans that they are taking risks with the franchise again & going for a more adventure era type game which tons of sonic fans actually want as people are getting sick of the boost formula.

@@jam9852 Generations, Colors, and even lost world and Forces are all way better games than Shadow ‘05. It’s horrid mission system drags down an already bland and unenjoyable experience.
Plus, it's easier to sell a remaster of a well-beloved game compared to something like Unleashed where, outside the fandom, is a big "WTF ARE THEY THINKING!?!?!?" to most gamers. Especially, with the 3rd Movie in production.

I haven’t heard anyone else bring up that the music played during Shadow’s part of the trailer is a remake of Digital Circuit from the og shadow the hedgehog.
The original OST had some really great tracks surrounded by a ton of muck, so getting to hear some old songs remastered is another thing I’m looking forward to.
I knew I recognized that tune from somewhere.

5:55 I'm guessing he's taking advantage of the situation and hitched a ride with Eggman and the Time Eater and is using his own powers to warp the already unstable timeline while Sonic and the rest of the cast deals with their own adventure...

Love that they're doing this, likely in anticipation for Sonic 3 (the movie) For the wider market to get familiar with and hyped for Shadow.
That little blurb about the game diving into Shadow's past to understand his motivations and characters makes this game a genius marketing move on behalf of Sega. Because this game is going to coincide with Sonic 3 when a bunch of kids are going to be introduced to Shadow but know nothing about his history.
After leaving the theater, these kids are going to want to know more about Shadow and instead of having to play a bunch of old games they don't have on obsolete consoles they don't own, they can play this game and learn everything they need to. It's the perfect way to expose Shadow's characters to a new Generations of fans, this will be their foundational understanding of the character and a gateway to older games in the Sonic Lore.
That's how Sonic Generations was for me! I know who Sonic was and I was a fan but I had very little knowledge of some of his past games since they were just too old for kid to me access them. The first time I learned about games like Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 and Sonic and Knuckles was through Generations. That allowed me to have some background when I wanted to play those past Sonic games and it will do the same thing here. Plus other kids already know about Shadow backstory through the internet but now they can actually play him in an honest to God game! This game is just a great thing for the next generation of Sonic fans!
Giving Shadow an actual role in Sonic Generations is awesome! I’m sure *Shadow759* will get a kick outta this with *Sonic Reminiscent!*

I would absolutely love that. While they were primarily 2D imagine if they straight up made 3D Versions for Modern Sonic, and upscale the already existing 3DS levels for Classic

I like how Shadow's homing attack is visually distinct from Sonic's. It's something I've always wanted and using Chaos Spear as a projectile move a really smart idea.
I don’t understand why all this Shadow content is stuck in a remaster of Generations. I feel like that’s an unnecessary decision and even may hurt the experience a little. Why couldn’t it just be its own game entirely so that it could have even more potential than it already has.

Agreed. I would have gladly spent 30 bucks on a short Shadow campaign, but I am not sure if I am going to spend a full 70 dollars to buy a game that I already own just to play what may only be a short new mode.

Maybe Sega was not sure if Shadow would sell well on his own, so they bundled him with Sonic.

Actual story? Fuck yes
I'm actually not surprised by this approach at all because the new movie is releasing at the end of the year with Shadow as the main selling point. Shadow's original story is from an entirely different era of gaming. The kids playing Sonic games today have likely never even held a Gamecube/Dreamcast controller, let alone actually played SA2 or the follow-up Shadow the Hedgehog game. Saga will have to use this title to try and establish the original interpretation of the character and his core motivations (which are far different from the Shadow of today's mainline Sonic games...) with new players, because that's the Shadow Millennial Sonic fans are going to expect to see at the movies.
I heard that people wants Infinite as a boss for Shadow's campaign, but if Generations canonical takes place before Forces and both stories happen at once, then that doesn't seem likely. Unless one level would be in the future of where Shadow meets Infinite before Forces.
The level detail looks absolutely insane. I am VERY excited for this.
I'm glad to see Sega is not scared to acknowledge Shadow's game! I PERSONALLY enjoyed it. Yeah, the story was crappy, the gameplay was a bit horrendous....at times. But I still consider it as one of my favorites. I'm just a Sonic fanboy like that. Who knows. Maybe sometime down the road we'll eventually get a full Shadow the Hedgehog Remastered. Or remake.

The Shadow stage shown in the beginning looks more like either Space Gadget or Cosmic Fall from Shadow the Hedgehog than Final Chase.
i hope memphiles is included too, it was more of an antogonist to shadow than it was to sonic, also i'm happy that they weren't afraid to add all those references to the 2005 game

The first time Shadow did the homing attack by teleporting was during Shadow the Hedgehog's opening cinematic
The times he did it during actual gameplay was in Sonic06 and Sonic and the Black Knight (as Sir Lancelot)
Made me realize how similar all the warping environments look to Dr. Strange’s Mirror Dimension from the MCU movies. Pretty cool.
I never would've thought that we all get to see Black Doom again from *Shadow the Hedgehog* game in the Brand Newest Sonic Generations Remastered game this year: *Sonic x Shadow Generations.*
Another detail to mention is how the short sequences with that green hue seem to be shadow freezing time with chaos control
Shadow fighting a suped up Biolizard here is pretty funny since Sonic has the original Biolizard fight from SA2 in the 3DS port of Generations.
I wasn't expecting this, especially them bringing Black Doom back.
But you can clearly see Shadow is the "main event" here, they probably aren't really sure about releasing a Stand-alone game for him yet so they went with this.
Honestly based on the steam description this game actually has a lot of potential in fixing shadows character
This gives me the vibe of when Kingdom hearts did that teaser for 3 in the remake of the 3ds game, i think this will be built upon in a full game later on, it seems were really starting to see what the Hedgehog engine 2 can do

I'm super excited and I didn't even know this existed moments ago. This looks like a stronger story focus than a lot of recent Sonic games... I really hope it is
3:40 judging by Shadows idle stance, jump ball animation, rail grinding animation in Final Chase, and each frames of the start and ending homing attack animations that he does, its best assumed that this Shadow mode was built in hedgehog engine 2. The homing attack seems too similar to the homing attack in Frontiers' cyberspace, and in the startup frames of it before he teleports, he does the same animation Sonic does to parry in frontiers
"Players will dive into Shadow's dark past to understand his motivations and learn more about him as a character."
So basically Shadow the Hedghog 2.
I think sonic might come in shadow's campaign to help defeat black doom as shown in tons of different sonic games. It might be like first shadow trying to black doom, but then sonic will come in later to assist in the final battle instead of playing as shadow in a seperate campaign mode.
One thing I noticed is that Shadow's normal gameplay seems to be more like Sonic Forces vs Unleashed/Generations where the rings have that swooping magnetic effect and the boost/homing attack mechanic is brighter and quicker. Wonder how that will translate to how modern sonic feels & controls
The fact that we have Shadow as his own playable character with his own abilities is GREAT I really hope Sonic Team leans into using their multiple playable characters instead of giving us another Werehog or forcing Classic Sonic into other games after Genetations.

Never thought we’d see Black Doom in HD
I really hope Kingdom Valley is a returning stage! Personally I’ve always felt that should’ve been the stage to represent Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 since it was by far the most important and representative stage in that game,way more than Crisis City imo

There's something unsettlingly surreal about seeing Black Doom in modern CG graphics and not scuffed 2005 PS2 graphics 💀
I feel like the version of Black Doom we see here is more than just a memory.
This is supposed to be taking place in White Space: A space that the Time Eater created out of Sonic’s past memories.
In this sense it would make sense that Shadow would be able to encounter Black Doom, as Sonic would’ve been able to remember Black Doom; seeing how that Sonic had a role to play in “Shadow the Hedgehog”
But this time around, something makes me feel like that things are amiss, as Black Doom seems to have more power than he should have.
And notice the form that we encounter.
We encounter Dooms Eye, which the Wiki states is really no better than a sentry.
If Dooms Eye is capable of bending the space around him in White Space, there’s no telling what Dooms Eye may be capable of.
For those newer fans scratching their heads about the difference between Dooms Eye and Black Doom: They’re the same character, just two different entities. Dooms Eye just allows Black Doom to be able to be present in more than one location at a time: hence why it’s no better than a sentry.
Considering the Biolizard and what looks like Radical Highway are making an appearance, I'm crossing my fingers that the other Generations 3DS levels will make a surprise appearance!
Sure would be great to revisit Emerald Coast, Mushroom Hill, etc in HD...
It seems that Shadow's gameplay is from Sonic Forces. His boost looks almost the same, and when he stops boosting, he almost instantly loses his momentum 3:09 , I kinda hope that they use more sonic generations physics than sonic forces for Shadow's character.
I believe Shadow would fit very well in sonic frontiers combat style, hopefully they have more plans for him in the future.

I want to be excited for this. Sonic Generations was peak 3D gameplay for me, the level design was incredible with all the little shortcuts and full on alternate pathways. Sadly, Sega seems to have forgotten how they did that as all the boost games after were nearly on rails with basically no alternative pathways. So, i really want to be excited for this but I'm very worried we'll end up with the Colors/Forces on rails level design insead of the branching pathway heavy Generations level design i love.
i'm really digging this new era of post-Boom where Sonic Team actually being proud of Sonic
... now bring back Sonic 06, make a big remaster & then bundle the Original as "Speedrun edition"
If they didn't included 06 elements for Shadow's portion (Shadow's story in 06 was the best Shadow content we got and Mephiles was what Black Doom should've been) it'll mean that Sega really doesn't want to remember it

i'm excited yet also cautious
first for the sonic genrations part. KEEP THE PHYSICS THE SAME. i know Sega has struggled a LOT with physics in some of their games (forces) but the physics felt like so much fun in generations. not too heavy or floaty
next. they are putting a hug emphasis on getting to know Shadow better as a character by the sounds of it. on the surface that sounds really cool! and maybe it will be....but i myself am REALLY hesitant on that considering how limiting SEGA is when it comes to how shadow is characterized. (if you want evidence? look at Sonic Boom and how Ian was forced to write Shadow in the IDW comics especially during the metal Virus)
Here's my problem with this announcement, keeping in mind that the game has not yet been released: as much as I love the distinction of characteristics between Sonic and Shadow, Shadow's background as the Ultimate Life Form, even the fact that Takashi Iizuka intended for him to literally represent Sonic's own shadow and sort of an amplified rebel with no cause, *I seriously find the porting for the new Generations remaster as an unwarranted production.* It's kinda like *Sonic & Knuckles,* the vibe I can clearly see Sonic Team going for here, but the narrative has been redone out of sheer desperation to reach new audiences. Not that this is a formula less likely to work for the Sonic series; I actually welcome this idea..., *but it's too late for that.* Since *Sonic Heroes,* it had taken SEGA a production of at least 8 whole games before eventually giving Sonic Team more room for creativity, more room for the Sonic "Multiverse" (?) to breathe! A new frontier has been forged (see what I did there? 😏)! Most of our favorite characters have carried on to different things! So much has happened with Sonic's world that there's not even enough time left to make someone like Shadow *legitimately* relevant for this time, let alone revitalize his background! *I seriously don't think this will catch on!*
Again, I welcome this idea, but it's too late for that.

I really wanted something like this but I even more so want a new shadow the hedgehog game (devoted entirely to shadow) doesn't even have to be like the first one with all the branching story paths. It would be very easy to write a story for it as well. (at least from a main conflict standpoint)
Im wondering if we can get a fight with Mephiles here as well. I mean Crisis City was in the original game so they connected to a dead timeline already!

This makes me wonder if this is another one off shadow inclusion, or if this is (with all the other recent shadow appearances in other media) sega dipping their toes in the water for a big shadow reemergence project.
