Thanks for the unboxing. A video of much greater quality than the product itself.
That's horrible, here in the uk we are only getting a Series 1 to 4 and specials set ,but at least all the series are in seperate cases
Yeah, huge disappointment.
Despite the lower content, it seems the UK set is superior in every other way.
I'm hoping they follow it with additional sets updating series 5-13 to the newer packaging, so at least there'll be a complete set of 2005-onwards Who in consistent packaging. Crossing fingers.
I got mine yesterday. The packing is so bad. Some discs don’t even have their own trays, you have to stack them. The discs are really hard to remove, I feel like I’m going to crack them.
I agree. I don't even know how to open these discs, and if I were to do that I might end up breaking these discs. The designs for literally everything are abysmal. I wanted to get this limited edition because I didn't have a physical copy of DW until I ordered and got the box, so... eh idk
Still frustrated over how to open these discs though.
I found a crack in one of the loose discs so I guess I’m returning it. I bet that they end up refunding at least 20% of them. Maybe I’ll keep a few discs. I doubt they count them and they probably destroy it anyway.
I had a cracked peter capaldi disc twice upon a time I emailed for a replacement and they sent a whole new peter capaldi set. I didn't have to return the old one.
did you get it from the manufacturer or the store you bought it from? I kind of regret sending mine back now. I had bought mine from Amazon and at the time, they were out of stock, so I just ended up Doctor Wholess.@@cdst8888
I bought this Season 1 to 4 look a lot better with the new upscaling. Had to pull all the discs out and put them in a binder because twice upon a time was cracked trying to get it out of the case. I sent for a replacement and got it. It's a shame there is not an episode guide but it was a bargain to have Season 1 to 13 with the specials and bonus featres.
How is the remastered video quality on series 1-4? Is it noticeably different from the previous versions? PS - thanks for the great overview!
Going to be honest, I can't tell the difference. It doesn't look any better.
@@Vash1306That's exactly as I was expecting. People were telling me I was crazy for suggesting they'd look the same 😂
@@Vash1306does it have all the specials like resolution and so on? How about the animated David tennat episodes and especially the movie called “adventure though space and time”
@@zagreatandini2345 yes all of those are included
@zagreatandini2345 the animated episodes are missing, but the Adventure in Space and Time documentary is included. Every single previous extra is also included because from Series 5 onward, it's all reprints of their previous blu ray sets
What’s the video quality of series 1 - 4, that is what we all want to know? 😅
Going to be honest, I can't tell the difference. It doesn't look any better than the previous set >.
Thanks for the unboxing video! I pre-ordered this a couple days ago & was curious as to how they were gonna put it all together. It doesn't look like it was assembled with the same amount of care as with the previous releases & everything comes across looking almost bootleg, especially the figures. I guess there's some charm in it, contrasting visually with all the previous releases before, so at least it'll be a good laugh looking back years later & remembering that this is how boring they wanted to make this set look at the time.
Send it back mate. Jeez it's ugly.
@@paulr9562 I really should have, it's definitely NOT worth it. I spent about $250 on it (including S&H) & put it into storage after it arrived to be opened at a later date. I went to Walmart tonight to buy some groceries & found a 'Doctor Who Collections' set that has all the same content (except for Jodi's run, the garbage figures, & the certificate) for only $50. I guess I can sell the 60th Anniversary set at a markup later at least but yeah, I definitely regret buying it now otherwise.
Oh god. That packaging is awful. Not even close to the promo image.
Yeah, really hate the case, DVD size as well.
Who cares there the best versions of the discs who cares about the cases
@@aaronvasseur6559you’re not wrong! I like having a nice looking collection on my shelf though, and these cases will neither look good on their own (due to the improperly sized covers) not next to the rest of my Blu-Rays (due to being DVD sized cases).
It just would’ve been nice if they’d buy a bit more effort into something that’s supposed to be a special edition for fans. The cases don’t even match what was advertised. The photos used Blu-Ray cases. Compared to the Series 1-7 set from 2013, this one looks very poor.
@@aaronvasseur6559 I only bought this set to have a uniformity with my entire Doctor Who BD collection, so I CARE!!
@@aaronvasseur6559 us collectors and fans who want our moneys worth.
Anyone else notice the audio issue in the newly upscaled version of the next doctor?
Heres my experience with mine...
Immediately out of the box the left side of my box was nicked and the corner got smashed in...for me this is fine i dont really mind
The peter capaldi set dvd case has a crack in it...
My disc one of peter capaldi season 8 was cracked and is completely unsuable...i got on the phone and im hoping for a replacement because i kinda want to keep it...
Does anyone know, if i just end up getting a refund do i have to return the boxset?
Is the sound mix any better? I remember you couldn’t even hear the 9th doctors “feel the earth turn beneath my feet” speech from Rose because the music was SO LOUD
That’s a slight exaggeration but no, the sound mix is the same. It’s an intentional choice by the showrunner.
What do the menus look like for the series 1-4 discs? Do they at least retain the same TARDIS interior animation?
Im hearing from others that they don’t :(
@ki700 That's a shame, used to love those menus!
They update to the menu style from Series 5-onwards as far as I've been led to believe, eg an animation of the time vortex and options overlaid.
I preordered mine from BBC shop Canada in August 2023 and it still hasn't shipped...
Packaging issues aside (and those cases are horrendous), it's disappointing that Dreamland and The Infinite Quest are also not included, having been included in The Complete David Tennant set.
I thought it was on the disc after the next doctor episode, only the disc up to the next doctor episode are actually different than everything else in the other separate box sets.
Does the Matt smith box or any of the discs have the doctor who movie “an adventure in space and time” ???????
Yes in the Smith box
@@ki700wonder if it has the tennant animated stuff too
@@zagreatandini2345 it does not. That’s basically the only thing missing
This set has the options of subtitles?
Here in the uk we only seem to be getting series 1-4 but compared to this our version has more detail on the disc jackets but i’m still sad about not getting the titan figures.Bad enough we never got a look in on the 14th doctor titan figures from usa comic con, never even seen one on ebay 😢
Based on the 2 unboxing I've seen, the uk version looks way better with proper blu ray size and better quality cases
It only being Series 1-4 is disappointing, but otherwise the UK set seems hands down the more impressive of the two versions available. I'm hoping at some point that they do a Series 5-13 equivalent set in the new packaging style.
The main reason it was only series' 1-4 is the first time these were released on Blu-ray they weren't mastered correctly, so this is like a redo to make it right. They are definitely better now, from what I have seen.
Is there any kind of episode guide or what specials are included
Nice overview, I’m curious if this includes the 50th specials such as day and night of the doctor? In the past that content was considered separate from s7
Yes, it contains everything from New Who. All specials, bonus features, and shorts.
How about An Adventure In Space & Time?
@@Whovian87yeah that’s there too. In the Matt Smith box.
Is the Five(ish) Doctors Reboot special included as well?
@@darrenwilliams6085 yup that’s a bonus feature on the 50th disc!
Just got mine today. DVDs everywhere these cases are so awful I wish it was the blue cases that they advertised in the Amazon link.
I really wish they would release this in the UK, apart from the mediocre packaging, overall I think this is a phenomenal set.
Does this set include all (most?) of the same bonus features as the original release?
Everything is included except Dreamland and The Infinite Quest (which had their own disc in the Complete David Tennant set). One feature on Series 1 called The World Of Doctor Who has apparently had some footage edited out of it, but I couldn't tell you what.
@@lancebaylis3169 thank you for the confirmation, I truly appreciate it. As for World of Doctor Who - I’m pretty sure I have a digital copy from 2005 (?) so that’s not the end of the world, at all. I wonder if the material cut out is from or references An Unearthly Child …
Any difference from the DVD version?
Just wanted to say thank you for this unboxing video.
Mine hadn’t shipped yet so I canceled it and got the individual seasons and specials. Since I had up to season 8 already anyways. Having the 1-7 bluray giftset already. This one was disappointing.
cancel it if its not too late. if yours doesn't ship with cracked discs, you'll end up cracking them yourself when you remove them from the disc trays. horrible set.
@@oliverjason I did! Cancelled it and got the individual cases. Then those were all cracked and and discs scratched so Amazon had to send replacements of those too. Quality is not good for this series anymore, unfortunately
Ya I have the steelbooks (except season 9) and am hoping for individual releases of the upgraded seasons 1-4 and am just planning to put the upgraded disc in the steelbooks
Series 1-4 is getting a standalone release in the UK.
@@ki700 thanks for the info and with my Xbox being region free I won’t have to worry if it’s region locked or not
@@mikecrawford1247Xbox actually isn’t region free for Blu-Ray or DVD playback. Only the games themselves are region free. UK BBC Blu-Rays are typically region free though, but you need to be sure your Xbox and your TV can support 50Hz content.
Did they fix the sound issues on series 1-4? The old blu ray releases had an awful tinny sound due to how they slowed it down and then pitch corrected it. Series 7-13 also had the issue but weren't as bad as 1-4
It’s still slowed down
Weird I thought they didn't pitch correct it, just let the sound be slower.
@@AndyGilleandno lmao if they didn’t pitch correct it then everything would sound deeper and wrong. Anytime you adjust the speed of audio you have to pitch correct if you still want it to sound normal
Well pitch correcting it didn't really make it sound normal either that's what gives it there awful tinny sound. If they really wanted it to be normal they wouldn't slow it down in the first place. They've done releases in the original speed before, series 5 & 6 both were released in the native 1080i but for whatever reason after that they started doing the slowdown for all releases after that
@@Xiao_Ke because with 1080i you either need to frame blend or you have extreme judder. Neither is a clean release.
What the hell is pre ordered this day of announcement and I still haven’t gotten a confirmation of shipping yet??
That'd be me.
BBC Shop is shipping then out today
Mine keeps getting pushed back
So, is the Matt Smith era in 1080p or 1080i?
1080p. All discs are 1080p.
So, for anyone not happy, just keep in mind it's a limited set. So you could re sell it. Im sure it would be double the price later.
While this is a really good point, the stories of these particular types of cases cracking in transit or even the discs being broken straight out of the box do temper that collectibility somewhat. Being one of only 6000, if one has a mint version, yeah they should appreciate in value.
@@lancebaylis3169 That is a good point as well.
Wow. It looks cheap AF. Canceling my order now. Thanks for the video
Can you see if they included Good as Gold in this set? It’s been missing in previous USA releases (part of Series 7 in the UK).
The discs for Series 5-13 are identical to previous North American releases, so no Good as Gold.
Good As Gold is dreadful but still better than The Star Beast lol
I'm so disappointed now, I had this pre-ordered for months now at Barnes and Noble, and my set is still traveling through USPS, and I've not received it yet. I was hoping they would do individual seasons in their own packaging, I hate these large sets of disc because usually they break or are broken already when you purchase them. I'm sorry, but for 200 dollars, they could have done better. I have the X-Files collection, and they literally stuck each season separately in a box and even left space for a future release. Just look up the X-Files bluray set, and you'll see what I'm saying. I'd rather them leave the figures off, and we got something better. Thanks for posting, I just was interested in seeing what the collection looked like before mine arrived. I'm going to keep it because I'm a Who fan but I'm still very disappointed that they couldn't have done something better than these large disc sets.
@timothycrawford3476 adding insult to injury, the UK equivalent of this set only features Series 1-4, but does collect them in individual season-by-season Blu Ray cases.
I understand the benefit of the upscaling. Idk if it justifies the price for the horrible packaging. I can't believe there's not at least a booklet with an episode guide. What a cash grab! Smdh 😫
This packaging is typical for big season box sets (for North America anyway). Star Trek TOS and TNG are packaged in the same way, and it is annoying.
I wouldn’t say typical. Doctor Who has done much nicer box sets before. This one is particularly egregious because the promo images didn’t even represent the final product at all.
Are the extras from the old editions all there? It's my first time collecting the show, I didn't have the money before, and I want to have access to all the behind the scenes and other extras I missed :)
That’s such an odd omission. They could’ve kept that, thrown in the McGann movie, and had a sixty-disc set for the 60th anniversary.
How are the discs spread across each season. I might just buy actual blu ray cases for each of them, this packaging looks really bad
It’s packaging what are you doing staring at it or watching the DVDs

Hey! Do you know if it's region free?
No. Region A locked.
@@ki700 I emailed the BBC and they told me it was region free. I'm confused now haha thanksm
Series 1-4 might be region unlocked as they're new remasters, but the Series 5 onwards discs are clones of the 2013 set which was Region A locked.
Those are not what is advertised on their site. They show Blu-Ray cases on their site, NOT DVD cases. That alone makes this a disappointment. I'm tempted to cancel my order now because they've already over a week late in shipping it out.
It isn’t late. The release date was changed to the 21st a while ago.
@@ki700 I thought it was the 14th? Either way, it hasn't been shipped yet, so it isn't arriving tomorrow like it is suppose to.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetworklike I said, the release date was changed. BBC Shop also doesn’t advertise release day shipping so you shouldn’t have expected it to arrive immediately.
@@ki700 Well given this is 2023 and every other site in the world ships their products out in advance to try to ensure the buyer has their preorder ON the day of release, you would think BBC would have the same courtesy. They didn't waste any time charging me for the product when I preordered it. I expect the same kind of service reciprocated.
All I can say is I will never be ordering from the BBC Shop again. Fradulent advertising and poor customer service are not ways to gain my support.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetworkyou tell ‘em
This boxset is terrible. Thanks for saving me money
How many discs per case?
Eccleston/Tennant is 16 discs.
Smith is 16 discs.
Capaldi is 14 discs.
Whittaker is 12 discs.
What region are these? Are they region free or locked a?
Region A locked.
Ah man this is terrible. I already own the previous full series box set and was lightly considering upgrading, but this is absolutely terrible packaging. Thank you for saving me money on this.
The cases are not that great in fact mine arrived from Amazon cracked.
Man this looks disappointing tbh, specially for something thats supposedly to be "limited" quality.
Well, I hope the UK set is a better than that!!
The UK isn’t getting a Series 1-13 box set like this. They are getting the remastered Series 1-4 though, and in better packaging.
Wow, I'm really disappointed with this. The Jodie Whitaker discs aren't even attached to the case? Wtf?? looking forward to watching this set once then reselling once a better one comes out.
They’re likely never going to do a set like this again.
Ok glad I didn't buy this.
Tbf what did you expect, the american releases have always been naff
Look I love doctor who but havnt watched since Peter she was absolutely awful and that's coming from a grown women 😂 David Tennant is bringing me back to doctor who which is fitting because he was my first doctor as a kid I own all his and Matt's that's all I need
