Andrew I enjoy your reviews and have recently purchased a Cinema 70. I'm having a problem when using my TV cable remote...it turns the Cable box, TV, and Marantz on I get picture and sound for about 4 seconds then the sound turns off leaving the Marantz on. I have to turn it off then on for it to work. Any help you could give me would be appreciated.
Loud starts at 90db, frickin loud starts at 100db. 😜 I hit 97db with my Rotel A8 integrated the other day and it wasn’t even breathing hard. No stress just clean clear foot tapping sounds!! The advantage of smaller man cave listening rooms. 😊
Thank you for another amp review. I'm still perpetually looking for that perfect speaker and amp combo. From those pieces I've been able to audition in person, my taste and, more importantly, my wife's taste fall pretty much in line with you and Kristi. So, these reviews are so very helpful to put things on the short list or eliminate. Selfishly, I'm really curious to see where you think the Sonos Amp falls, especially compared to the Marantz M1. I have the Sonos amp in an unconventional set up (built into a 1964 stereo console with B&W Signature 7NT in-walls).
@@andrewrobinsonreviews thanks - like you said there are a ton of other reviews out there. I'm always really curious and appreciative of your comparisons ... especially as several other manufacturers are coming out with similar products - it's just really interesting to see where others put the emphasis - from a feature development perspective.
Marantz should definitely never get together with Focal… that duo would crush entire worlds with the weight of confusion alone. Nothing against Marantz, I think they’re great and have some incredible products right now and highly competitive. But, I can’t stress enough how many brands are falling into this thing of making too much of basically the same, instead of following B&W and their simple lineup. They just figured out the right way to do it and that’s it, no extras necessary. I really don’t understand the point of 60n when you have the M1. It should’ve just been left in the oven and dump the oven at recycling facility. Great review as always! Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday!
On an unrelated note, had cause to revisit your Sub Setup and Sub EQ videos from 2020 and 2023, respectively. Thank you for the years of great content. Feels like you’re continuously (and successful) raising the bar.
3:56 into the video and I was already asking, “Why wouldn’t you get the M1 or Stereo 70S instead??” As the video progressed to the M1 conclusion comparison, that opinion only seemed to get stronger Why do many brands seem intent on creating convoluted SKU confusion offering subjectively “worse or lesser” products at a higher price instead of the traditional Good, Better, Best tier? Why risk customer’s disappointment either not getting the best value or FOMO? I’m a spec nerd and it took me 20-30 minutes doing comparisons to sort out Marantz’s line, compounded by the Cinema vs Stereo variants NAD, recently Onkyo, Marantz, etc
It’s hard to keep track of Marantz’s slimline offerings. I have the Cinema 70S. I understand the Stereo 70S existence. But besides the Mac Mini form factor of the Model 1, I’m at a loss to figure out the rest.
As an outsider, I feel like Marantz's amp line is a mess. Too many amps that look the same and I still can't tell a difference between most of them. I just feel like this is a prime example of 'Paradox of Choice' where too much choice can make consumers just give up. "The paradox of choice suggests that an abundance of options actually requires more effort to choose and can leave us feeling unsatisfied with our choice." - Google
I 100% agree. While I get Marantz leaning into its iconic industrial design, it gets really confusing when that look is spread across too many products. Then, factor in all of the products that vary in price by only $100-$300, and more confusion abounds. Then, there is the overlap of features, and one starts to go crazy.
I thought the same thing then to challenge myself I thought about all those same looking TVs and that's the point of a model number lol. That said if they could colour tint their front panels to group products into AVR, stereo and " other" it would be a nice visual differentiator
To me it reinforces my satisfaction with my existing gear. How can you have FOMO if the new stuff looks like the old stuff and is basically described the same.
Thank You Thank You Thank You … I have been waiting for this review since summer given I purchased it on June. Very cool honest review,. And yes I love it.. it delivers to my expectations at its price point. ❤
Good afernoon. I finally got to watch a review at home over a cup of coffee instead of in a hotel room. LOL. Andrew, thanks for another detailed review. I appreciate how you are able to help us understand the nuances between models to help us understand appreciable differences. Thank you for that! I find the Marantz naming convention for each model vs capabilities confusing. For instance, it's easier for my mind to reference Cambridge Audio model naming conventions vs capabilities ... or even Yamaha. I dont' feel they make it easy for the consumer that way. Does that make sense? Otherwise, I LOVE their products and their sound overall.
I learnt about the kaleidescape strato v from this video. Would you mind doing a review on that device for newbies (like me) talking about the reference video space?
What makes the SVS a good reference for you vs say a more easy to drive speaker like your Cornwall? Recognize they are not the same price point. Would you lose something from the amp trying to power a speaker like that, or is it better because the amp has to push harder?
A simple test tone sweep will not reveal much distortion differences on most modern amplifiers. Music consists of many tones playing simultaneously, which is why you heard a difference but could not measure much of a difference.
Great review! I have a Marantz PM7000N and this seems to be the new version. I'm more than happy with it, love the way it sounds, and it has all the power i need. Internal HEOS is buggy so using a WiiM PRO which is WAY better of a platform and love the EQ in their app. The 60N add pre amp outs and HDMI, which is always awesome to have. That being said, within the new line up, i think the Model 50 and an external steamer would be the way to go for me. Thanks so much guys for another great Sunday with you!!!! 1:21
I feel I am Marantz’s targeted demographic for the 60n. I am very price conscious and wanted a “middle of the line” integrated amp that looked modern while having a vintage feel (the Marantz name does that for me). I upgraded from a NR1608 AVR to the 60n, and it was a huge and drastic leap in audio quality and power when driving my very efficient Paradigm SE6000f. I am not driving it louder than 40, and its imaging is great along with its classic Marantz sound that, I understand, is not for everyone. Heos is only getting better with a ton of resources being spent on it makes it my main way of listening to music. I disagree with purchasing the stereo 70s over the 60n (8:48). I had the stereo 70s for about a week before deciding on the 60n. The 75 watts were lackluster luster with very weak headroom…I had to go up to 50+ to get the most out of my paradigms. Overall, the 60n is strategically priced and a great integrated amp for all that it does.
I think I agree. I don’t think Marantz is doing anything ‘wrong’ but simplifying its range would help everyone I think. I’d love to see them do something like Cambridge audio or hifi rose and put a nice screen in as a variation from the current line’s appearance even though their line is quite pretty anyway. Side note: I’d love to see Denon bring us a slimline AVR as a more affordable Cinema 70S. Great review. Enjoyed it. Thank you both.
I love the coherence of stereo reproduction vs multi-channel on my decent Yamaha Aventage AVR with a decent IC DAC. How about commenting on the life-like reproduction of stereo music vs multi-channel??? I really enjoy Yam's 5-channel stereo effect, but 2-channel provides a singer/performer "RIGHT THURR!". For reference, I'm 50-yrs-old. Average hearing test results, and I've heard a tiny bit of unforgettable "high end" sound. Thanks!! 😃
@@andrewrobinsonreviewsit’s actually good but I have to turn the volume to 50 to get a satisfying sound. My wife might disagree with me. Do you know the gain in that phono stage?
Excited for the EXA100 review as I do love my CXA stack, but I'll admit, there is something sexier about the EX line (but they need to add a transport).
@@samuelwaters697 Get outside??😜 My happy ass is glued to my Lazy Boy in the man cave running my playlists off Tidal contemplating my next audio purchase! What I should do is get two of my vintage receivers repaired that blew last week due to faulty cables I bought from WBC. Just fyi stay away from them.
As someone who owns a 40n, I struggle to understand why the 60n exists…🤔 40n is made in Japan, 60n is made in Vietnam, power output is slightly different, 40n has power amp in, 60n has pre amp out…other than that, they are nearly identical as far as I’m concerned and I definitely don’t feel the need to run out and buy the 60n.
Yo también tengo un Marantz 40n y estoy feliz con el. Tiene un sonido cálido, con más potencia de la que nos dice Marantz sobre el papel. 76 watts a 8 omhs y 120 watts a 4 omhs. Podríamos decir que el 60n es el hermano pequeño del 40n.
Thanks team for another great review and one more item to add to an ever growing list! Question for the next live stream if you can The pursuit of perfection. I think I have a problem. I keep messing around with my system, twisting knobs, adjusting PEQ levels, moving things because when I get something to sound great with one music genre, it sounds lacking or too much with another genre. How do I enjoy the music rather than listening for flaws? Can the audiophile summit be achieved or are we just Sisyphus rolling a stone?
Understand where you are coming from with the redundancy but I like what they are trying to do or at least what I think they are trying to do. If you are high up on the Model 30 but it's out of your price range they have the model 50. If crazy about the model 40 but it's a little too much for you then we have the model 60, etc. I will agree that the Marantz is wonky about some of the feature offerings. Overall, I wanted the Model 40, but for whatever reason I "need" the option of pre-outs. Now, the Model 60 has them, but not at the quality of the model 40. I own the Model 30 which has pre-outs, but it does not have a sub woofer out However, the model 50 does but it's lesser quality. It's a little annoying. Maybe they will create a Model 30 and 40 mark II. All in all, I'd wish Marantz would do a little thinking out of the box. For my living room. I would like a Model M1 but either a 5.1 version or even 3.1 version with maybe and option to add wireless surrounds. I know I can get a good phantom center with the M1 but some of my living room seating is off to the side where the phantom center is less effective.
Just a comment: My 8015 is still my go to and I love the A/B, programmable, full ATMOS sound. I tried a 6010 back in the day but it did not have the horse power to drive my system so a trade in and 1K more to a 7010 and that did it. lol
I’m excited to watch this, as I categorize AVR’s into: Great at Atmos, Great at Stereo, or a niche feature packed DSP, streaming, DAC, preamp device. I like the Denon X3800h for Atmos, but curious if this would be a nice living room stereo unit.
Feel like Marantz is pushing into the paradox of choice. Too many options may just confuse the customers. Sounds like in the end it is team M1 baby! Thanks A&K.
Oh heck yes, I was hoping we`d get a review of this one. Is Marantz *finally* letting that silver colour creep down the price range in North America? It frustrates me that the Cinema/Stereo 70s don't come in silver in North America because the "market doesn't want silver". The current generation of Marantz is gorgeous. The current generation in silver is gorgeous-er. I am curious how this stacks up to something like the R-N1000A or the C3050, which are two price comparables I'm looking at?
Measurements can't tell you how something will sound because we can't measure everything that contributes to a sound. Jason Stoddard from Schiit talks about how what appeals to his ear often doesn't align with the measurements and his conclusion is that there are many variables that we don't measure or don't know how to measure yet
Hello from Ottawa 🇨🇦 Interesting review. I LOVE the design language of Marantz’s new amplifiers, but I can’t help but wonder if the lineup has too many SKUs. This review actually reminds me of the NAD C399 review you did 2 years ago, where you called out NAD for having too many similar products with minuscule differentiation. Is Marantz headed in the same direction? Philosophical question for Unplugged: is HiFi headed towards a paradox of choice?
Marantz Amp lineup is like the menu at the Cheesecake Factory. You go into it thinking you know what you want, but end up frustrated and not knowing what to order.
Marantz is getting NAD -itis. I the 60n is not needed, they needed an update to the model 30 with more powerful N core not to cannibalize Amp10 but something like 150W into 8/300 into 4 with the theater Dac chops and functionality of the M1. Make it nicer than the M1 with a big toroidal and a decent screen. I would pay $3000 for that.
Wondering if the Onkyo TZ50 is still relevant? Wanting to upgrade my Outlaw Audio 975 processor which is 10 years old. More of a 2 channel guy and have a hum using theater bypass on integrated so I need separate the systems and was thinking of buying a 2 channel amp to add with the 5 channel outlaw amp. Can get an open box Onkyo for $750.
I have the PM8006 pushing Wharfedale Evo 4.2s.. it waa brand new at $1500.. the power is ok at 70wpc, but at that price i would prefer 100wpc @8ohm.. looking thru their catalog I'd have to spend double to get more watts, and possibly do separates at that point.. it's good clean power tho and will get me by until i upgrade to something around 120 or 150wpc.. that's my only gripe about their offerings.
Looking at the Marantz and Denon lines sometimes reminds me of the days when Apple was on the brink and hadn't been saved by the return of Steve Jobs. Too many products that seem to serve narrower and narrower (and possibly non-existent?) niches, just to, what, fulfill a scale of price points? Come to think of it, Yamaha's line of AVRs is a bit like this too. Ultimately, I have to agree (probably with many other commenters), that the state of the mass-market audiophile AVR scene is confusing. I bet all of these products are very good-to-great performers, but consumers must be left sometimes wondering if they made the right choice. I picked up the Cinema 70s back in July on the strength of your review and, weirdly, both yours and Darko's review of the Stereo 70s, and have been very pleased with it, largely because I like feature-sets that combine devices as opposed to separates, and the 4th of July sales this summer brought the Cinema 70s in line with the M1's price (the Stereo 70s got no such discounts). It was a great deal. I almost got it for $850 as a refurb, but the refurb was DOA so I had to send it back.
So I have and enjoy my 40n, but I am frustrated that when they added Roon Readiness they skipped the 40n. The older 30n received it as did lower priced newer models... if anyone heard a reason please share!
Hi. Thanks for this review, was looking for stereo amp from Marantz and it helps. But in my country at this point Model 60n is almost twice the price of Stereo 70s. Also Cinema 60 is similar price to Stereo 70S (I find it strange). So - for mostly stereo with floor-standers (Polk ES60/R600, maybe similar Focal - sth with port not on back) - what is Stereo 70s advantage over Cinema 60? Also possibility to update later to 5.1.2 with Cinema is nice, but not important for now. Mostly stereo, mostly for music. If you have any suggestions - thanks in advance.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews Thank you, but I know that. I'm asking - is there any reason to buy Stereo 70s over Cinema 60 (even for just stereo)? It looks like Cinema 60 should be better, unless there is some aspect of Stereo 70s over Cinema line that makes it better for just stereo. Thank you
Seems like at this price point, you prefer the M1, and at a higher price point like $2k, I’m guessing you’d prefer the Yamaha RN1000A or the Audiolab 6000 etc. Tough competition in this space, it would have needed at least 100w of AB power to compete or an incredible phono stage to stand out from the pack. Great review as always Andrew. RIP Longhorns Kristi 😢
Greetings all, looking into some advice on what I should veer towards, right now I am using Denon X1600h with a pair of Monitor audio Silver RS8. I only use Apple TV through my tv via hdmi arc and listen to vinyl through Pro-Ject tube box s2. Since your review of Marantz model 40n I was keen on getting that one, however it was a little bit a stretch of a budget and now when my denon started to fail I am looking into either Model 60n or M1. I understand that fundamentally they are different, however both of them seem to fit my case. I enjoy the look of 60n more then m1, however will be basing my choice on performance. Unfortunately I am unable to hear both of them side by side with my speakers. So any advice would be much appreciated. Also I will not be adding anything to the system in the future, nor I will be upgrading it. Thanks to anyone who is willing to provide their view on the case :)
I know you’re not big on subwoofer but would love to see the new SVS 17 ultra. Claims it goes down to 7 hz. Wanna know if you feel the explosion. Does it bruise the plums???? Would love to know… thanx for all the awesome videos . I believe your review style is the only true form of reviews.
Great review as always. Yeah, I agree that Marantz has too many options in the line. Between $1K and $1.8K you have to choose betwen the M1, Stereo 70S, Model 60N and Model 50. If you're willing to consider HT as an option, then you also have the Cinema 70s and Cinema 60 in that price range. 4 - 6 products all competing in such a small price range ($800 difference between cheapest and most expensive) is just crazy IMO.
In your opinion, what’s the best current product on the market (integrated amp) that balances the ability to enjoy AV content, movies, etc as well as be able to transition into a respectable stereo, music listening piece?
Great review Andrew. I own a Marantz Model 50 and 50 CDn with Polk R700 in my living room, love the combination. In my Den I am using a Marantz NL1200 with Polk R200 speakers Small room so adequate. My Question is, with FOMO starting to work on me, I wonder if I should upgrade to a M1 or Model 60N and would I hear and audible difference compared to my 3 year old Marantz NL1200 with 75 watts. Leaning towards the M1 as I use a NAD CD player in the den, but the new Model 60N is $500 more than the M1 and the M1 is $1000 more than my NL1200 that is paid for. Will I gain anything by spending a grand over my existing system audibly? Thanks
I've wanted to like HEOS. Have tried it multiple times over the years, hoping it's improved. Most recently I revisited it in the hopes that it would allow me to play Atmos content from Tidal without having to turn on my projector, and no. No it does not, despite running on my Denon X3800H which obviously supports Atmos! WTAF?!
I'd be curious about what you like about the HEOS app. I've watched numerous videos and it just seems pointless. I am using an older device (Denon AVR X2600H) but so far all it does is open other apps.
Hello from France Andrew ; seem to me that the 60n is the upgrade of the 7000n. By the way is the Model 50/CD50 a good match in term of quality-gain, i own the old combo PM6007/CD6007 ? By the way you make me curious about the M1. Will you have the opportunity to test the new M10 flagship ? Thanks and hi to mrs K. ! 👍
Good Morning A&K. Another great review. Marantz definitely seems like it needs to simplify its lineup of amps. This seems somewhat overpriced at $1500. A comparison with the similarity priced Arcam A25 which offers more power but lacks a few features in comparison such as ARC and built in streaming might be interesting. I actually just built a secondary system for my office with an Arcam A5 (using a Wiim to solve the streaming issue) and that's an amp you might want to do a future review on as an entry level integrated option. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
I think the 60n may be mildly overpriced, but if Marantz were to lower the price, its place in the market would get EVEN MORE confusion, IMHO. The Arcam line is sooo good.
Hello Andrew. Since 2008 Marantz has not made any significant changes to their integrated amplifiers. I have the PM 8003 integrated amplifier with Polk Audio LSi-9 speakers, and since then, the PM 8004, 8005, 8006, Model 40 (has a streamer) and Model 50 are all the same amplifier internally. Like you, I hear the distortion in the sound at high volumes, especially when the song is recorded at a slightly low volume. The mid and high frequencies are altered. I think that Marantz should only have the Model 60 (as an entry level), the Model 50 with streamer and more power (100 W/ch 8 Ohm), the Model 1 (for those who want something simple), and the Model 30 also with streamer and more power (150 - 300 W/Ch 8 - 4 Ohm), and eliminate the rest of the integrated amplifiers. The Model 10 remains as High End for the few who can afford it. Thank you.
It looks like Marantz has a ladder with all the steps with these amps, and then there is the M1, sitting on its own. The ladder ones are all AB amps, right? And the M1 is a class D but digital like the Technics? I always thought that class D tend to not be as musical as AB. How do they compare to a similarly priced tube amp like a Cayin? And how do they compare to an Arcam A15 or A25? Thanks for all your efforts!!
I'll be attending an audio show in the upcoming week. Hope I can finally listen to some of the new Marantz products. Your reviews of all the different amps and receivers made me curious.
I would encourage anyone to listen to as many Marantz integrated amps in the line as possible before making a final purchasing decision. They may be surprised that they might be able to get away with one of their lesser models, given how close in performance many of these amps are.
@@andrewrobinsonreviewsI'll see what they will have on the spot. To be honest I'm quite worried that the listening environment won't be too good. It really depends on the room they will get. Either way I'm looking forward to it. I assume the differences can't be too big between so many models so it really makes me think why Marantz would take this approach. Look at it this way, you need to design, manufacture and promote all of these amps. That's expensive.
@@KristiWrightI'll be attending the Audio Video Show in Warsaw. It is the biggest one in Poland and it takes place annually. There are three venues so they are able to accommodate many exhibitors. I haven't been there in the past 3 years so I'm really excited to see what's in the market now. It's also a good reference point for me to compare my own system with the ones on the show.
I'm looking to get a Model 40N as my taste is very warm and musical leaning. Are there any 40N owners here can attest to it sounding luscious and musical, or should I look to something else?
Hey there, I’ve got a 40n and a pair of Lintons and I’ll say you won’t be disappointed if warmth and fun are more important to you than analytics. I use mine as the centerpiece of my 2.1 channel home theatre/stereo system and it does both just fine. I’m always speaker shopping but I haven’t been amplifier shopping for a long time and that’s a good thing. Hope this helps.
Guess its just a less cost way of manufacturing the products using the same parts, but it would be nice for marrantz to have some visual differences between the models . THX A&K ..
They should probably focusing on ironing out the details of a quality receiver first that warrants the asking price tag. I simply cannot understand who this is targeted for at such a cost considering the distorted audio coming from it.
@@txerapng Looking forward to having a chill Sunday. The temps here have gotten suddenly cooler, which means more outdoor time, just not in the pool. I hope the job is going well. Have a great week!
Thanks for this review! However, I was/am curious and confused (when this came out, and after watching this review). Is the 60N supposed to be an upgrade to the Model 40N? Am I missing anything with the 40N that the 60N has? I honestly can’t tell!🤔 Even though the price of the 60N is less than the 40N.
Generally the lower the number, the better the product, with Marantz. Though there are exceptions. So the 40N is a higher end product, but also a bit older, which might also play a part.
An AMP should be so simple, maybe a remote for volume but why is an app needed to control it? I don't mind a streamer being as complex as you want, but the amp should just amplify, right? I don't use the Spotify or Qobuz apps to stream from them, I don't need an additional app either to control the amp. Any network device should simply have a web interface on port 80.
You don't need an app to control it, it has a remote control. But you do know that if you're streaming from Spotify etc you need their app, don't you??
@@MohsinWadee No, you don’t need the Spotify or Qobuz apps. Platforms like Volumio integrate seamlessly with Spotify and Qobuz, allowing you to play tracks directly through its interface. I love my Marantz Model 50 with a CD60, a Technics 1500 and a Eversolo DMP 6. The 60n i dont understand. I think they want a a more Musical Cinema 70s. I think i buy a Amp only and CD and streamer seperatly. So i have more choises to fit my preferences. The Model 50 with the DMP6 on my 705 Speaker sounds extreme good an very room filling, also on lower Volumes. The all in One System is That what Most buyers want and Marantz will Set System in a hole Price Range to Hope that they get more buyers interested to the brand. I dont think that works a long time. We will see.
They are creating a product ladder $1,000 for the 70 $1,500 for the 60 $1,800 for the 50 (should it have been $2,000?) $2,500 for the 40 $3,000 for the 30 The issue besides having 5 products is that they look almost identical and the $3,000 Model 30 looks like the 70 and definitely doesn't match the looks of the similarly priced gorgeous Technics SU-G700 Mk2. Also what does the n stand for that the 40 and 60 and why does the 70 have a s? It is quite confusing. At the Model 30 price point, you're also in Emotiva XPA-DR1 monobloc territory which I suspect with 1.3KWs into 8ohms total power and full separation may sound better.
The s is for slim, which I think makes sense. They also have comparisons of similar models on their website where it says the n has HEOS and the non-n doesn’t. I think if you’re just seeing things in passing it’s confusing, but if you’re seriously shopping and reading the product pages of the different options I don’t think it’s confusing at all. I think it makes sense to have separate s models. Separate n models maybe not, although people who don’t want HEOS would probably complain if there was no non-n model, unless it was obvious they weren’t paying more for it.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews sorry. You compared it to the m1 and the new Cambridge. Just curious about which one, if any, had the best control over bass. Fastest/ tightest bass. 😊
@@Kukkema Ah, thanks for clarifying. M1 = best control. Cambridge = sensation of deepest and more organic or "real" sounding bass in-room. Marantz 60n = somewhere in the middle, provided you don't turn it up too much.
For $200 more a Cinema 60 seems like a no brainer unless you want or need that slim look; in which case the (less costly at $1,200) cinema 70s has the 8k hdmi, heos, and eArc. But the 70s also has all the pre outs for 7.2. or you could bi amp the front L/R in 5.2 for a little more oomf. That leaves you with the choice to spend that extra $300 on some additional amplification, or more sensitive speakers, if you want.
They easily could've because the M1 and Stereo 70s have it and both use HEOS and cost less. Marantz's whole line really does feel like an exercise in parts/spec swapping so as to have something at virtually all price points. They feel like the new NAD in that respect. Too many options.
Wait. Did you say you got the SB17 sub in?!? Please. I know you’re busy!! But please put a review video with measurements of the new svs sb or PB17 asap!! Thank you! 🎉
Well, I actually own a Marantz 6005PM made in Vietnam. It drives a pair of Made in France , Triangle 25th Anniversary Comètes ! I do agree that under Massimo Marantz is somehow renewing its HiFi. A bit confusing.😊
I bought a 40N a few months ago, before the M1 was launched. Had I known I would have chosen the M1 and saved $$$. Too many choices as far as I am concerned.
Having a lot of products means a lot more differentiating factors that run the risk of missing a really competitive product. Instead of competing with other brands they compete among their own products. Take m1 for instance, the lack of optional addons for room correction and bass management is a big miss.

I hit 97db with my Rotel A8 integrated the other day and it wasn’t even breathing hard. No stress just clean clear foot tapping sounds!! The advantage of smaller man cave listening rooms. 😊
Thanks, Please forward this onto the hurricane appeal for me, just a little help from me in the UK😢
I still love my Model30 w/ SACD30n after 4 years ! I believe these two models started the new look !
Appreciate your support and hopefully in early 2025 we'll get to the Sonos Amp.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews thanks - like you said there are a ton of other reviews out there. I'm always really curious and appreciative of your comparisons ... especially as several other manufacturers are coming out with similar products - it's just really interesting to see where others put the emphasis - from a feature development perspective.
6:31 Man, every single time I see those Titan's, i am out of words, they look so good, esp. in you guys' room!
They definitely make me smile. Definitely an attention grabber in more ways than one.
The best part of Sunday’s…(and Friday’s!)… Thank you once again!
Still absolutely in love with my M1. Great video guys, thanks.
Appreciate you stopping by! The M1 is amazing!
Totally.
I wish every brand would adopt the good, better, best model, or go cull custom a la Emotiva's XPA build-your-own style amp.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews absolutely. Even car manufacturers are doing this crap nowadays and don’t know what they’re doing.
On an unrelated note, had cause to revisit your Sub Setup and Sub EQ videos from 2020 and 2023, respectively. Thank you for the years of great content. Feels like you’re continuously (and successful) raising the bar.
I'm so glad that the videos are still helpful!
3:56 into the video and I was already asking, “Why wouldn’t you get the M1 or Stereo 70S instead??”
As the video progressed to the M1 conclusion comparison, that opinion only seemed to get stronger
Why do many brands seem intent on creating convoluted SKU confusion offering subjectively “worse or lesser” products at a higher price instead of the traditional Good, Better, Best tier?
Why risk customer’s disappointment either not getting the best value or FOMO?
I’m a spec nerd and it took me 20-30 minutes doing comparisons to sort out Marantz’s line, compounded by the Cinema vs Stereo variants
NAD, recently Onkyo, Marantz, etc
World's Best Cables has this problem.
Makes perfect sense.
I learnt about the kaleidescape strato v from this video. Would you mind doing a review on that device for newbies (like me) talking about the reference video space?
Yes would love to hear your thoughts on Kaleidescope.
We are working on one but it's not ready yet.
I always look forward to watching your videos. Thanks !
All i want, is a clean 5.2 or 7.2 amp, with 150-200w pr channel :)
Just buy a receiver with good processing and get an external power amp
Thanks for sharing your experience.
I went with the Model 50 and the cd50n which now has Tidal connect (update) three words, wow and Wow.. This combo is just my cuppa .
As long as they all work well and sound good I wouldn’t care if Marantz had 100 two channel amps. I do wish they didn’t all look the same though.
Any plans for an Advance Paris Review?
I think I agree. I don’t think Marantz is doing anything ‘wrong’ but simplifying its range would help everyone I think.
I’d love to see them do something like Cambridge audio or hifi rose and put a nice screen in as a variation from the current line’s appearance even though their line is quite pretty anyway.
Side note: I’d love to see Denon bring us a slimline AVR as a more affordable Cinema 70S.
Great review. Enjoyed it. Thank you both.
Andrew, thanks for the review. Is the Marantz stereo lineup as confusing as NAD?
I love the coherence of stereo reproduction vs multi-channel on my decent Yamaha Aventage AVR with a decent IC DAC. How about commenting on the life-like reproduction of stereo music vs multi-channel??? I really enjoy Yam's 5-channel stereo effect, but 2-channel provides a singer/performer "RIGHT THURR!". For reference, I'm 50-yrs-old. Average hearing test results, and I've heard a tiny bit of unforgettable "high end" sound. Thanks!! 😃
Me: You're hotter than a Fosi on fire.
My wife: I hate you so much.
You should do a budget home theater setup. I would say under 3k-5k.
Good afternoon. I’m thinking of adding a phono preamp to my NR1200. I love the way these amps look.
You don't like the one included with the 1200?
@@andrewrobinsonreviewsit’s actually good but I have to turn the volume to 50 to get a satisfying sound. My wife might disagree with me. Do you know the gain in that phono stage?
Right on happy Sunday

Excited for the EXA100 review as I do love my CXA stack, but I'll admit, there is something sexier about the EX line (but they need to add a transport).

My happy ass is glued to my Lazy Boy in the man cave running my playlists off Tidal contemplating my next audio purchase!
What I should do is get two of my vintage receivers repaired that blew last week due to faulty cables I bought from WBC.
Just fyi stay away from them.
As someone who owns a 40n, I struggle to understand why the 60n exists…🤔
40n is made in Japan, 60n is made in Vietnam, power output is slightly different, 40n has power amp in, 60n has pre amp out…other than that, they are nearly identical as far as I’m concerned and I definitely don’t feel the need to run out and buy the 60n.
Yo también tengo un Marantz 40n y estoy feliz con el. Tiene un sonido cálido, con más potencia de la que nos dice Marantz sobre el papel. 76 watts a 8 omhs y 120 watts a 4 omhs.
Podríamos decir que el 60n es el hermano pequeño del 40n.
Thanks team for another great review and one more item to add to an ever growing list!
Question for the next live stream if you can
The pursuit of perfection.
I tried a 6010 back in the day but it did not have the horse power to drive my system so a trade in and 1K more to a 7010 and that did it. lol
The 8015 is a GREAT jack-of-all-trades AVR that is still very good and relevant even by today's standards.
Hey Andrew and Kristi, I have a stereo 70s and use it in preamp mode. Works awesome for stereo. I don't really need much more. Have a great week.👍👍
I’m excited to watch this, as I categorize AVR’s into: Great at Atmos, Great at Stereo, or a niche feature packed DSP, streaming, DAC, preamp device. I like the Denon X3800h for Atmos, but curious if this would be a nice living room stereo unit.
Then I think this week's video and next will be right up your alley 😉 Thanks for watching!
Noting the Yamaha comparison for Friday's Unplugged.
@@andrewrobinsonreviewsyes!!!!
The more reviews I watch (or read) the more the M1 sounds like a breakthrough product.
I think it's one of Marantz's more important designs or releases since the 40n two years ago.
Measurements can't tell you how something will sound because we can't measure everything that contributes to a sound. Jason Stoddard from Schiit talks about how what appeals to his ear often doesn't align with the measurements and his conclusion is that there are many variables that we don't measure or don't know how to measure yet
You should check out my Preference vs Reference video if you haven't already.
Marantz is the new NAD for sure. Something Kristi and I discussed during the writing of this episode.
Stereo 70 doesn’t have bass management in that you can’t high pass the mains
This is incredibly frustrating. It's making me consider the Cinema 70, even though it will only ever be used for 2 channel music listening.
Marantz Amp lineup is like the menu at the Cheesecake Factory. You go into it thinking you know what you want, but end up frustrated and not knowing what to order.
or even worse, disappointed if you order anything off he menu
Marantz is getting NAD -itis. I the 60n is not needed, they needed an update to the model 30 with more powerful N core not to cannibalize Amp10 but something like 150W into 8/300 into 4 with the theater Dac chops and functionality of the M1. Make it nicer than the M1 with a big toroidal and a decent screen. I would pay $3000 for that.
my thoughts exactly.
Hello.
I agree with you.
Thank you
I agree with y’all 100%!
Add some room correction option like Dirac and that’d just be icing on top of a really good cake for me
Wondering if the Onkyo TZ50 is still relevant? Wanting to upgrade my Outlaw Audio 975 processor which is 10 years old. More of a 2 channel guy and have a hum using theater bypass on integrated so I need separate the systems and was thinking of buying a 2 channel amp to add with the 5 channel outlaw amp. Can get an open box Onkyo for $750.
Andrew, which speakers do you and Kristi, like for your in house system? I’m trying to figure out what to upgrade my system to could use your help
Interesting points. I've noted your comment for Friday's video! Hopefully, we will have time for it.
So I have and enjoy my 40n, but I am frustrated that when they added Roon Readiness they skipped the 40n. The older 30n received it as did lower priced newer models... if anyone heard a reason please share!
It’s a very good question, I don’t have an answer.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews Well if you happen to know a guy… thanks for taking the time to respond.
Stereo 70 is two-channel only. The cinema line is an AVR.
Thank you
hi andrew, what colour are your walls and ceilings? I LOVE your room and trying to recreate it in my setup.
Thanks for a great review!
Thank you for being such a supportive member! We really appreciate you!
Ugh, that game was brutal.

So if you want surround sound/ATMOS you need to go up to the Cinema series?
yes
If I knew what I know now, I would never have gone with Atmos. Save your money and enjoy your movies
Week 3 of me waiting to hear the mini SVS review in the next bookshelf review. I can’t wait for it
Great review as always.
Here are my picks: bit.ly/3VZYzDL, bit.ly/3RGwr6d, bit.ly/3YKWQSh
Thanks
Probably better go with a Stereo 70 and add a power amp.

I am working on diy speakers which would be better for movies with a little music 2 way, 3 way or mtm will be in living room.
I believe that Model 30 is Class D. But yes, minus those two, the rest are Class AB.
Which show are you attending?
I've noted your comment for Friday's video! Hopefully we have time for it.
Great Sunday Everyone!

Because it's not just an amp? It's an integrated streamer, pre-amp and power amp
@@MohsinWadee No, you don’t need the Spotify or Qobuz apps. Platforms like Volumio integrate seamlessly with Spotify and Qobuz, allowing you to play tracks directly through its interface. Additionally, you don’t need a dedicated Volumio app either. Volumio runs a web-based user interface on port 80, which can be accessed from any device on your network. With so many apps already out there, this streamlined approach makes things much cleaner and simpler.

That's a bad approach as it isn't scalable.
@@cunawarit the simplest streaming is through Spotify Connect or Tidal Connect for example - using native service apps is best.
Andrew can you pls suggest some budget bookshelf & tower speaker options for yamaha V6A reciver?
We really liked these bit.ly/3Y5BFx5.
They are creating a product ladder
$1,000 for the 70
$1,500 for the 60
$1,800 for the 50 (should it have been $2,000?)
$2,500 for the 40
$3,000 for the 30
The issue besides having 5 products is that they look almost identical and the $3,000 Model 30 looks like the 70 and definitely doesn't match the looks of the similarly priced gorgeous Technics SU-G700 Mk2.
The n is for network streaming.
@@tessie4204 Thanks, I forgot the M1
Wow, the Model 10 is going to cost 15x the M1 and 10x the Model 60.
It does look amazing and expense was spared but that's quite a hike.
Hi is marantz mcr 612 any good ?
I have 40n and it is good and reliable amp, still would like to compare that to the Model M1.
The 40n was an absolute workhorse for us for more than 2 years, so not surprised it's doing well for you.
Which of the three amps have the best bass control?
Which three amps are you referring to? As stated in this review, the 60n does not have bass management.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews Thank you very much for the thorough answer, Andrew. That M1 seems like a really good deal, for me anyway 😊.
Thanks 🙏🏻
For $200 more a Cinema 60 seems like a no brainer unless you want or need that slim look; in which case the (less costly at $1,200) cinema 70s has the 8k hdmi, heos, and eArc. But the 70s also has all the pre outs for 7.2. or you could bi amp the front L/R in 5.2 for a little more oomf. That leaves you with the choice to spend that extra $300 on some additional amplification, or more sensitive speakers, if you want.
Andrew, can you say something about the new SVS subwoofer? Plssssssss!
One thing i don't like is having a subwoofer output, but no bass management. What's that about? Marantz could easily add internal bass management.
They easily could've because the M1 and Stereo 70s have it and both use HEOS and cost less. Marantz's whole line really does feel like an exercise in parts/spec swapping so as to have something at virtually all price points. They feel like the new NAD in that respect. Too many options.
I’m gonna give the M1 a chance. I’m curious about the virtual mode for movies.
Get the M1 as you won’t regret your decision. I have this little powerhouse of an amp and it’s totally amazing. 😊
@@Gadgetdad007 I have a Cinema 30 and a M1 and I love them both. The M1 powers a set of Towers in my living room and it is outstanding!
I have the Marantz av9000 and the mm9000 if I move into another system it will be mono amps to drive my Klipsch or Polk's.
Which mono amps?
Wait. Did you say you got the SB17 sub in?!? Please. I know you’re busy!! But please put a review video with measurements of the new svs sb or PB17 asap!! Thank you! 🎉
You certainly can't complain about a lack of choice where Marantz is concerned.
Thank You for the review.
Great review as always
I appreciate that.
Great sharing. Fair comment.
Why does Marantz keep releasing 2-channel devices without proper bass management and room correction?
The M1 has bass management with both low and high pass filter capability.
@@bsajtos thanks did not know that
While I’m not in the market for something new, the 60n doesn’t make sense to me for it to exist.
