I’ve seen Slipknot at Harpo’s many times (including when they opened for Coal Chamber!). What people don’t understand is the pit is a literal pit. You have stage, then pit, then you go up a level and that level is dead even with the stage with a railing. It’s probably 10-12 feet off the pit floor. The walls of the pit are carpeted ... and during heavy shows that carpeting is ripped off the walls leaving rusted staples. It’s a literal rusted spike pit. We always got there early to get on that first rail for the best view and I’ll tell ya ... the trash can surfing isn’t a joke. Fully legit. Even had people jumping over OUR heads onto an unsuspecting crowd in the pit below. Harpo’s is a crazy place. And he says rough part of town ... and we’re talking Detroit. You sit there watching cars jump curbs into empty lots and people run up and shuffle stuff back and forth (obviously drugs/money) and then the cars peel off. You get there at 5 for a 6pm door show and you’ll see that’s over and over again. Streets lined with broken glass from break-ins. You hope your car is still there when you leave. Fun times!
