    Welcome to this in depth demo and review of the Fender American Original 50's Telecaster! This particular guitar was a 2020 Limited Edition done with the Mary Kay treatment, ash blonde with gold hardware. Featuring Fender Pure 52 Tele Pickups, an Ash body and a U shaped neck. What do you think? Using a Vick Audio Tree of Life for the overdriven tones.

    I have a 1988 American Standard Telecaster, still in pristine condition, except that the polyester finish has aged from a pale yellow to a richer yellow. The colour designation is actually Vintage White, from back when Fender had far fewer models and colours available. It has a rosewood fretboard.
    I've always admired Steve Cropper and Jimmy Page's early Led Zeppelin work with that style of Telecaster.
    It's the only Telecaster I've ever owned, although there are some others I wouldn't mind having.
    But the one I have just sounds fantastic, and shreds if I need it to.

    Great playing and guitar. You are absolutely right. 50s are more mid heavier. 60s are brighter. Both sound great. To me there is no PU favorite. 50s are more for blues 60s for R&B, soul and funk.
    There are many PUs like fender vintage, Lindy Fralin, Lollar or Kloppman which sound great.
    The point of preference to me is the neck. I like the 60s C. And of course you can put those high price PUs in a player series or vintera or a custom shop as well. It will upgrade your instrument definitely.
    With that white and gold looks like a fender white falcon equivalent. :-)

    Those pickups sounds amazing! That's the Tele sound of my dreams - the bridge has the right amount of growl with drive and the neck pickup sounds warm and clear with no mud through a clean amp. And that Mary Kaye Tele is a work of art. I have a set of Fralin Stock Tele pickups (with a 2% overwound bridge) that sound very similar and are amazing in their own right....but they cost about twice as much as the Fender Pure Vintage 52's. I think I might have been just as happy with these Fender pickups.

    The sound of this guitar reminds me more of Fender’s MIJ Daybreak Strat in white on white with matching headstock and gold hardware. I believe 2017 or 2018? The pickups on that one are awesome! I don’t understand the criticism of those pickups. They are superior to many other Fender-branded Strat pickups, in my opinion. Bought one a couple weeks ago. I'm used to fat necks from one of my teenage guitars, and that was one of the things that decided me for the Original 50s over a 52 reissue that I also could've bought. Sounds fantastic through a well-dialed Blues Deluxe, at high or low volume.

    • @andrewpearson1903
      @andrewpearson1903 ปีที่แล้ว

      9 months in and I'm very happy with this guitar. Jack & these commenters are right, the neck pickup sounds beefy and woody when raised to the right height, and the bridge is powerful and balanced, with excellent sustain when I add a little fuzz. The body isn't as resonant as I'd like, but I bought it brand new, and finished wood will probably take years to dry out. And the build quality is magic: literally stays in tune for weeks, still doesn't need to be set up, and I want to play it more than any other guitar in my small collection.
      (Side note: I knew next to nothing about the Telecaster when I went looking for one, and I dislike its conventional thin & bright sounds, the indie-rock "krang" and the country "quack." I could've very easily bought one and come to dislike it, but the AO50's was an answer to a prayer.)

    You can have all this goodness in a new Squier CV 50 with some swapping out of components. 50’s Tele pups are available from guys like Rob Di Stefano for $150 a set and are constructed to the exact specs and materials Leo used. The vintage tuners that are already on these Squiers are hit or miss, but if you need to replace them with the OG’s it’s no biggie. Same with the pots.
    Basically, you can have a legit 50’s Tele for well under $1000 complete and it’ll play and sound great.
    I did all this on my Limited Edition Copperburst Mexican Tele except I left the regular tuners on it.

    Jack I know this is more of a matter of opinion but, if you had to pick the Original 50s or the Originals 60s telecaster for a more all genre guitar, which would you pick? I love the sound of the 50s but that lake placid blue is just incredible

      @JackFossett  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think still the 50s - for all purpose, the 50s pickups sound a little fatter and have more attack, which makes them better for heavier genres. You can make the 50s Tele sound alot like a vintage Les Paul if you push some mids and gain and notch the tone slightly. The 60s has beautiful tone but it’s a little more slender.

    The blue Gretsch? It doesn't look like a g5420. Not as deep, and those pickups don't look like blacktops. Is it a 5420?

      It’s a 5420t with upgraded pickups. Done plenty of videos on it if you’re interested

    Can you comment a bit on how this and your 60s tele differ ? Any preference on the necks? Thanks

      I'm not him but I own the 60s, used to own the 50s and now own this LTD 50s instead of the regular 50s. The 50s sounded fatter, for sure. But the 60s has more sparkle, it seems to sing a bit more. As for the AO50s versus LTD AO50s: The ltd comes with the CS 51 nocaster pick ups, which are a slight upgrade compared to the regular PV52's. the body is also chambered. It still retains that 50s fatness but adds more complex tones, sounds woodier en more airy. Stunning combination really

    Neck too glossy.

    This tele sounds heavier, fatter,
    boomier and crunchier than its Strat counterpart. This is after having listened to many demos of both instruments to account for any differences in EQ, knob positioning, etc

    get yourself a vintera which is closer to vintage specs aside for the poly finish. save yourself 1k because all your paying for with the American model is "made in corona" on the headstock know why it doesnt say made in the USA ? because not enough of the guitar is !
