    Great review, Rob ! As a Fitbit wearer of many years who's interested in the Sense (and is currently wearing a Charge 3), and as a stats teacher (of many more years!!!), your vid review was of great interest to me. VERY cool to see comparisons to multiple Fitbits as well as more "scientific" devices, and great data analysis. I'm intrigued that your overall impression of the Sense was positive, even as I've read multiple online reviews that were, ummm, "less optimistic" and less positive. I'm looking forward to your follow-ups with the Sense !

      Fitbit are terrible just look at all the complaints on their forums and reviews on their google play store. Fitbit also charge a premium fee to access info that is free on other watches. Most stuff is hidden behind paywall. SpO2 takes 4 hrs to generate and only after sleeping, ECG is only available in PDF. No dark theme on app. Screen scratches easily. Random restarts. Weird button placement.

    Hi Rob, thank you for such a very detailed review. However, I got concerned about some articles and reviews I read concerning about smart bands emitting EMF and how it can be harmful for our health. I hope you can make a separate video/review for that. Thank you and looking forward to more awesome and informative contents from your channel. 😊

      That is total rubbish tbh they dont give off anymore EMF than any other household device if it was a problem we would all be dead already lol Such minimal numbers not going to effect you microwaves and things give off much higher doses etc. About 50ut when i tested the Sense you get more than that all over the place just walking around all day.

    I appreciated you scientific assessments before I decided to buy the Sense. It helps cut through the sales hype. Thank you. The earlier FitBits were not reliable when doing heart rate. This is the main reason I bought it originally as I have had 2 heart valve replacements and monitoring my heart rate accurately is v important. The earlier Charge said my heart rate was 136 but when I counted it with the clock on my iphone it was 82.

    Great Content 👍 I'm very excited what the exact Heartratemonitoring comparisons will bring. 🤔
    The Heartrate chart in the video was so lala 😅
    One idea from me would be: I know you are a fitbit man but instead of comparing 4 older Generations Fitbit Bands it would be nice instead to bring 1 or 2 popular Manufacturers in the mix. Maybe Samsung+Xiaomi 😉😉
    Sure its nice for people with charge 1 to see its still good but i think if somebody is concerned about accuracy he will update his fitnesstracker regularly with a new one.
    In the end each manufacturer has its programming team and they wouldnt completely dismiss their measuring-codec over the generations. Instead they are finetuning, so the sleepmeasuring results werent suprising .

    This was an impressively good and thorough video. For the step counting portion wish there was mention if the devices were calibrated in the app for dominant and non-dominant wrist for a more complete idea of the left vs right discrepancies

    • @TheQuantifiedScientist
      @TheQuantifiedScientist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the suggestion! Will try to do next time. FYI: I had all devices calibrated to non-dominant, since I wasn't doing much anything different with my right and left hand (i.e. nothing which required my dominant hand more than my non-dominant), and switching during the test was impractical due to the number of accounts associated with these fitbits. For daily life you for sure want a match between the setting and the arm it is worn on (since Fitbit reduces sensitivity when setting to dominant to prevent false positives). Hope it answers your question! Have a great day!

    I have a Fitbit Sense and the face came off in August 2021, 10 months later the replacement did the same thing. I never get it wet, I do sleep with it on for sleep tracking and such. That's an intelligent move. I am currently with the original Versa by FitBit. I got it upon release, as a pre-ordered product. I'm a huge gadget girl! :D Anyhow, when the Versa 2 came out I didn't go for it, because not enough had changed, in my opinion. Now, though, the Sense? It has enough to make me jump for it. Especially considering I'm already a fitbit Premium member, and already meditate and will enjoy tracking those trends over time. I agree that in your cae it is likely worth waiting a bit, since you've already such a nice device. Yours tracks R.E.M., light, and deep sleep stages as well, yes? As well as showing that input on-device, as opposed to the app, yes? I look forward to your reply. thank you, in advance!

      The Garmin is not quite as accurate in terms of sleep tracking, at least that is what I have heard, but step counting and HRM are pretty good. SpO2 is also reliable, and you can use most functions directly on the watch, without the app. The Transflective Display is also pretty neat thing. It might not look as flashy as an OLED in the dark, but outdoors it is amazing, and you always have the full watchface. That's a big Plus for me.

    As a software engineer, I really appreciate this and you have a new sub. The review you did on the Fitbit Charge 4 had differing quantifications than presented in this video. In the Charge 4 confusion matrix, the columns did not add up to 100%, whereas in this video they did. Please excuse my ignorance, but is that what you present in this video not a confusion matrix? Is a confusion matrix only possible with a large data set? Is it impossible to compare to Charge 4 72% rating until you get a larger data set? The main reason I ask is because the Charge 4 is $100 vs $335 for the Sense, and my main interest is in the accuracy of the sleep measurements. Thanks again!

    Fitbits count steps while you're on a bike, on purpose actually. I used to have fitbits up until the charge 3, and I remember that at some point (about the time when they started putting HR monitors on them) they also added step counting to things like biking and elliptical activities etc.
    Love your channel! I've always wanted fitness tracker reviews that actually check if the sleep tracking feature works. No other channel does this, so I was so happy when I found you!
    I'm thinking of getting some sort of Fitbit, just for the sleep tracking, to use along with my Garmin Vivoactive 4... Which is a good fitness tracker, but with complete garbage sleep tracking.

    • @TheQuantifiedScientist
      @TheQuantifiedScientist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for the compliment :-D .
      So, about the intentional step counting. If it is intentional by Fitbit, it is kind of weird in my opinion: Steps in that case should reflect overall activity of the day. However, I do a very intense workout on the stationary bike, and I get less steps per minute than on a leisurely walk, so this is not a good reflection of overall activity. So I am not sure why this is done, and would love to find out. Do you have any idea Ymse?
      Have a great day!

    • @ygglensable
      @ygglensable 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheQuantifiedScientist At that time, fitness trackers were mainly step counters, and the step goal was the ultimate thing. Customers who liked things like biking more than running or jogging, wanted to be able to reach the step goal doing their activities.
      Step counting on a bike never worked very well, but it's ok on the elliptical (presumably because of you move your hands, which makes step counting easier)

    Thanks for the video! Do you plan to test the Versa 3 in a similar way? Or do you think versa 3 will have similar accuracy as the Fitbit sense on the sensors that are common?

    Damn ! Another awesome video...!! Would love to watch Muse S headband( marketed as personal eeg) vs actual professional eeg device comparison when you get hands on it.

    Your review was excellent. Can you please do one for the galaxy watch 3. I am really interested in the sensors and their accuracy. Thank you, keep up the extraordinary work.

    Hi!
    Very interesting review as usual!
    Have you compared the sleep data with the oura ring that you usually wear? I'll interested to have your feedbacks to understand if the Fitbit Sense is beeter then Oura ring or not.
    Thanks!

    Hi rob ,
    Many thanks for making such useful videos , can you please do a video with Apple series 6 with latest sleep tracking apps and compare that to fit bit sense or Versa 3. As Apple ios 7 app does not give much details on sleep cycles like rem, deep etc , there are third party apps you may have to use . If you can do that than it will be really helpful as I am struggling to decide which watch is good between apple series 6 and Fitbit sense /Versa 3 . Fitbit sense or Versa 3 are pretty much identical , so if you just pick one watch between these two than it will be very useful .

    It appears the difference reading of deep sleep rely heavily on movement detection, so while you are wearing the charge 2 on one wrist and the sense on the other you're will see different reading because the arms move independently.

    Thank you so much for the work you've done, and the information gathered. I'm torned between getting the Fitbit Sense or the Garmin Venu 2, which one you'd think is more accurate?
