This song has so many references to other Taylor's songs in the parts she wrote. Apparently from what I saw, originally Aaron sent the instrumental to Taylor, but she couldn't write anything over it, so he sent it to The National, Matt wrote the lyrics and then they sent it again to Taylor and at that point Taylor was inspired and responded in 20/30 minutes with all her parts, even in voice memos or something...she's incredible. And in her parts, the parallels to her songs such as exile, Anti-Hero, peace, Miss Americana And The Heartbreak Prince/Dress..now it's giving also kind of You're Losing Me vibes
Aaron is the one who plays the piano in the music video. He is also the guitarist and the one who started the band. Matt Berninger is the vocalist. Such a nice song.
I wouldn't call an authentic channel, a stupid channel -- your balance of respectful humor, honesty, vulnerability and light-heartedness is something I/we enjoy immensely about this channel. Thank you both! At the end of the day we are human and have to learn to laugh at and with ourselves and the absurdity of it all. Thanks and stay kind and sparking, all!
Taylor is a huge national fan, that’s why she reached out to Aaron collaborate with her in her folklore album. 4 of the national’s album are included in the greatest album of all time. They are a big deal, they are just not mainstream.
Also, Taylor’s most recent album Midnights (3am Edition) includes three songs co-written by Aaron Dessner: “The Great War,” “High Infidelity,” and “Would've, Could've, Should've,”
Aaron Dessner was producer of Taylor's folklore and evermore along with Jack Antonoff and in the folklore Long Pond Sessions doc. He's written and produced more with her since, but that's the major two.
Another collaboration of Aaron and Taylor is with his Big Red Machine band that he has with Justin Vernon. Justin is in the band Bon Iver. Aaron is in The National. They collab'd to create Big Red Machine. Both of them worked on Taylor's folklore and evermore albums. You can hear Justin duet with Taylor in 'exile' on folklore and 'evermore' on evermore. In 2021, Taylor collab'd with Big Red Machine (Aaron and Justin) on the song 'Renegade'. She is the main vocals and Justin sings some counter vocals. It's a pretty cool circle. th-cam.com/video/h_wr-9X47ao/w-d-xo.html
I read that Aaron sent the piece to Taylor and she recorded her part and sent it back fast., Her mind works fast, shev is amazing! And I love watching you guys. Silly and charming.
Taylor's not in a habit of being a backup vocal except on songs she has written or co-written. She did the first one on This Is What You Came For, sung by Rihanna but Taylor wrote this under the name Nils Sjoberg, lol. Her ex Calvin Harris claimed he co-wrote the song with a mystery writer Nils Sjoberg, but when the swifties recognized Taylor's backing vocals, people started wondering if she wrote the song because, well, it sounded like a Taylor song, lol. Second was Babe by Sugarland, which Taylor wrote all her own. And now this. And Ryan, when you hear the rest of Lover & Speak Now, I think you may changed your mind on your fave album. 😜Thanks again gents.
You guys should TOTALLY listen to "This is the last time" by The National. On the album "Trouble will find me" 2013 album. Lots of great songs on there...
Yes she has done backup vocals for HAIM the band by HAIM sisters' song called Gasoline. Taylor is good friends with the HAIM sisters. This song is from the National's new album called "Frankenstein" and the cottage in the background is their Long Pond Studio, where Taylor performed Folklore: The Long Pond Session, which is in Disney+ Hotstar
The National has a tour going on right now (also past year, they have been always touring almost nonstop, like 20 years or so, with the only hiatus of the pandemic), you still have time to catch them in USA in August, then they come to Europe ;-).This is from their last record (just has a few months, is called "First Two Pages of Frankenstein"). About this song, members of the group told the media their singer and lyric writer, Matt Berninger (Aaron Dessner is the one at the piano, he writes the music), had problems finishing this song so he sent it to Taylor. She sent it back finished like half an hour later. They also have (some of them, like Aaron Dessner) a pararell project called Big Red Machine with Justin Vernon and other artists they love input (like Taylor) and participation, they put there music that they love but don´t fit with their ongoing projects, last album was called "How Long Do You Think Its Gonna Last?" is from 2021 and Taylor is on 2 songs, Renegade, amazing one, and Birch, with Justin Vernon (from Bon Iver), the man who sang Exile in Folkore, doing more backing vocals like here. Aaron Dessner said it was her own idea to improve the song, with those vocals and some of the musical arrangements. That was done at the same time Evermore was being born at the recordings of the Disney sessions for Folklore. (Haven´t checked all my typos, I hope all this makes sense in English XD)
Some of her other features ('09-'13) gave me a similar vibe or role- complimentary accent or contrast of sound or style. Boys Like Girls Two is Better Than One, John Mayer Half of my Heart, B.o.B. Both of Us, Tim McGraw Highway Don't Care.
So a few months ago, my husband had a mental break sort of thing that ended in violence, and unfortunately police got involved. A week after the incident, even though I said I wanted to just go to the VA for counseling, he was arrested. I was then sued by CPS, and custody was given to my mother. Great system, huh? Report domestic violence and get my kids removed from my custody as if I did something wrong. I left, reported it, got help, came back when it was safe, children saw nothing. Insane. Luckily, I'm still with them, and he got out of jail after a crazy 50 days, but all of this is ongoing. This song came out while he was in jail, and I just wept for days to it. He is a good man. I've known him 14 years with never an incident. We are both combat veterans and we just hit a rough patch, I never wanted any of this craziness, just wanted to get a little help sorting through the muck. This song was too closely matching my life right now, and cemented Taylor Swift as my life coach ❤️
Aaron Dessner was the man playing the piano. He’s the pianist in The Long Pond Studio Sessions. You guys are hilarious. 😂🙈🤣 It’s a shame that you hate your jobs. 🤓🫣😋
Taylor also teamed up with The National for a song on Evermore called Coney Island. Also excellent!

Renegade by Big Red Machine & Taylor Swift. BRM is Aaron and Bon IVer

I guess she did do Backup vocals and a bit of singing for the song Babe by Sugarland (not Taylor's Version)

All I could think was, where could they possibly pause this beautiful song? And they didnt!
