    Love it! Honestly, most of the existing systems are way too print heavy and too focused on storing tiny things. This one is really clean and fits the tools I actually want to organize.

    Love the system! Always felt peg board was an easier cleaner option over French cleats for most items. Also thank you for the free downloads

      Yeah, french cleats take up a LOT more room and are better suited for much larger objects.

    THANK YOU for releasing something OPEN that can be shared and remixed freely. I'm amazed how much gate keeping the maker community has decided it wants to put up with.

    I have wasted many many hours printing / stressing over a Multiboard system, only to realize that you have solved the #1 issue with pegboard in a hilariously easy and kind of obvious way in retrospect. It's a little mind boggling how few views this has.

    Thanks for making this available and putting the work into some really nice models. I've printed a half dozen so far on Creality K1 and K1 Max's and the fit has been great. I did order the #8-32's off your link, but found that the heads on those were too tall and conflicted with sliding the holder on the carrier. I went back to just using the plastic pins that came with the 6mm automotive clips. Waiting to free up some more time on some printers to print out more and get more organized. Nicely done!

    Black nylon screws might work - super cheap - not sure they come in standard - so you'd need to find a metric. Also - took a deep dive into 3d printed screws and screw profiles recently, a lot if possible when you step away from the standard profiles.

  • @kesor6

    Would be fascinating to see this adopted to IKEA SKÅDIS boards, which have much wider accessibility around the world.

    • @bami2
      @bami2 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think as long as the spacing is right how this clamps down on the pegs should work the same for the slots as the skadis boards. It would be easy to design a new clip-on adapter piece for that. I'm for sure gonna try it because I have a stack of neodym magnets just doing nothing and I think with a bit of adjustment this should work great.

  • @tylersmalley

    Love it! Would this work with the plastic or metal pegboard? Or is the thickness of the the MDF board required for the automotive clips to work? Thanks!

  • @jasonward9983
    @jasonward9983 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is great and I look forward to testing it out. Have you considered two-sided pegboard options? I'm considering doing vertical sliding storage and pegboard would be very convenient for this, except if I wanted to put something on the front and back in same holes. I have some ideas but was hoping someone had already solved it ;)

  • @Roobotics
    @Roobotics 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    4:50 They screw out when they are under tension only, your goal as an uninstaller is back the head out far enough that you can get a panel-removal tool just behind the head to pop it out the rest of the way. If there were threads on the expanding side, they'd not be quick or tool-less to slap into place.

    • @RobertCowanDIY
      @RobertCowanDIY  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, you're right. They back out just enough to be removed.

    Interesting approach with very nice detailed solutions that may can be adapted to different organizing systems. But what kills it for me is the ease of use when it comes to rearranging stuff. If you need tools or a lot of force to unmount elements it is inferior to other solutions out there. I am sticking with the IKEA pegboard system.

  • @ScytheNoire

    Would be great if there was a printable model of the automotive clip part that is used with the screws. Printing in PETG should be both sturdy and flexible enough.

    • @RobertCowanDIY
      @RobertCowanDIY  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Eh, you COULD model it, but it wouldn't be terribly strong in PETG, since all the stress would be along layer lines. Maybe TPU could work? But the rivets are CHEAP.

    The automotive clips, some cheap ones don't have threads. Good ones (really most of them) do have threads, they do screw out, you can't apply too much pressure or they pop back in. 20 years of working on cars, and I have some in my hand as I type this 😉
    Awesome clip system!! LOVE the way they orient

    • @RobertCowanDIY
      @RobertCowanDIY  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've never done anything with automotive and I've only ever seen them without threads. I've even worked on some Hondas and Toyotas that used these and they weren't threaded. Where do you get the threaded ones?

    Very cool. Have just been setting up a short-term workspace and installed pegboard right away because I love how it puts tools at reach. But, yeah, the current holding solutions stink - it's like getting a tiny jab in the eye every time one of those damn hooks pulls out when you take a tool off. Ugh. This seems to work well and I may print a few to try out - nice of you to share it freely. The snappy-clip base is cool. Nice work and good name, too. I can almost hear the Akro bins engineers hard at work on making a commercial version...

    • @RobertCowanDIY

      Thanks! I know a few people that don't like pegboard, but if you get the right holders, it's amazingly versatile and cheap. I rearrange mine all the time when I get new tools.

  • @DavidinEssexUK
    @DavidinEssexUK 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Looks great. But seems to be quite expensive on the magnets.

    • @RobertCowanDIY
      @RobertCowanDIY  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, it's not cheap. Unfortunately decent magnets aren't cheap. Most commercial magnetic tool holders just use cheaper ceramic magnets, but they don't have anywhere near the pull force of something like these. This could easily hold a hammer without sliding.

      If you have trouble inserting the pins, a bit of mineral oil will help. The pegboard holes can vary quite a bit in size and from day to day. Just go slow and you should be fine.

    Hi Robert, love this idea. Just a thought I know you can get steel pegboards, as you are using strong magnets, and if you put 1inch centre locating lugs on the back of the holders you could just pick them off and move them round with greater ease. What are your thoughts on this. Kind of a verticals version gridfinity thing clough42 did a video on recently 👍👍

    • @RobertCowanDIY
      @RobertCowanDIY  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yeah, that could work. I'm just simply trying to make something for MYSELF, and I use a LOT of the cheap wooden pegboards, so this worked for me. But all the files are there to modify!

    Making it use that clip thing is going to be pretty useful because outside the US, 1" pegboard is unsurprisingly rather uncommon. But now the whole system is just one small tweak away from being e.g IKEA SKÅDIS compatible.

    Not a fan of having magnets everywhere since I used to grind a lot of metal in the shop when I made knives. Exposed magnets got covered in sharp dirty chips and filings. You may want to design some non magnetic options.

    • @RobertCowanDIY
      @RobertCowanDIY  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a fair point, but airborne metal dust sounds pretty bad, why not have some extraction on those tools? Maybe the tool holders will catch what doesn't go in your lungs or at the very least all over every horizontal surface.
