One desen't need no have a engine on their toes to feel pain. I have doped ... twice! the fucking same motorcycle battery.two fucking finger nails broken.
If I wanted to do something crazy like use this engine in a RWD configuration. With the transmission separated off from the engine, it would basically be a matter of fabbing up an adapter plate and some other bits?
I feel like I should poke at you for wearing flops while hoisting... My good mechanic friend does the same. It just urks me, so be careful! Thank you Charles your videos are really complete and detailed!
I'm at the point in my vr6 project where I have to reattach the gearbox to the engine. Now I've never done that clutch fork and release bearing before. Anything special you need to pay attention to ? Thinking about buying a reinforced clutch fork. Hydro clutch fyi
just pulled the trans off my mk3 golf 2.0. I had issues getting it out..... it gave my a hard time clearing the sub frame. the area the driver cv goes into kept getting stuck on the subframe and I couldn't rotate the trans as easy as Bentley recommended. I managed to get it out by just saying forget using the Jack to drop it on, and let use my muscles and chest to get it out. it weighed about 60-something pounds.
"if something falls, let it fall" a lesson i learned the hard way. had a transmission fall off of a stand, and stupid me tried to catch it. i got a nasty scar on my arm to serve as a reminder
I’ve thought of doing things like the cardboard thing you did and putting bolts in baggies and writing where they go Also maybe numbering sensors and the clips they belong to with like a matching number and tape where i know where they plug in to but i always thought it was like a stupid thing to do like it was a noob thing. But seeing you do this (and you do this every day) makes me feel like its a good thing to do! Ima do that from now on 👍. Specially now im getting ready to build my R32 bottom end for boost (never built an engine before) wish me luck!
It was driving me crazy trying to figure out what everyone was saying. I went back to watch and see what I messed up. I was not tightening that bolt. The socket I was using is meant for wheel bolts. It has a plastic sleeve on the outside to protect the wheels. You were seeing the sleeve rotate. The socket never moved. HAHA
a poet in facts on minute 13:43 you say exceptionally words thanks for your videos i am working to get out engine from my b4 vr6 to swap to my passat variant b3 follow you from Argentina here is very hard to get pieces for vr6s engines
are you going to keep the same shift lever, tower and shift box? I have a mk4 1999.5 golf, and upgrading that stuff to what most mk4 manual cars have was one of the best decisions that I made with putting money into that car...
You mentioned the RPM sensor which was white, what is the black connector positioned directly below the RPM sensor in the same bracket, mine has been separated and has got all broken. Hope its not the a/c fan. Do you have to remove the motor to dismantle the gear box?. If I were to turbo my R motor what should I do to the box. Cheers from Australia.
What would your opinion be on swapping the DMF for a SMF in a 98 audi a4 avant wagon? The wagon in question has had the secondary air injection and egr system deleted, along with a haltech 550 elite ECU putting out a respectable 240hp for the wife to daily. The current DMF is already making the annoying noises of starting to fail through first gear and needs to be replaced soon. The cost is not a factor in deciding SMF vs DMF, i have never dealt with a DMF in a car and do not know what limitations they have on a slightly moree powerful daily driver (190hp to 240). I appreciate your input and look forward to hearing your opinion.
Generally a SMF may make a little more noise, but it is probably not too bad. I find DMF to be a little smoother in most cases. I have driven some cars with a SMF conversion that are awful, and rattle like crazy. But many are also perfectly fine.
great video like always. damn i wish my motor would be done in a month or two so jealous!!!!!!!!, its been apart for months and i forgot where most of the bolts go, but I'm not to worried since its a spare and i can just look at the motor in my car for reference.
Get ready to see alot of 02M swap's in the future. People are scared about moving the rear mount. I think the x-parts mount may not require that mod. I should have some custom output flanges machined offer it as a package with axles/upgraded 02M.
thak you i got the vacuum done now is there a trick on how to bleed the clutch it works off the break master i just cant figure it out cant find a vid on here please help
I have te exact trans kn my vr6 and the cover where the diffrential is in broke down, like 1cm X 1cm Piece fell off the cover. Do you know can i replace just that cover or do i need to buy a whole new transmission for it?
Hah, ever done a timing chain set on a VR6 while it was still in the car? Guess what I get to do soon! LOL If you're thinking LSD, I've heard good things about the Wavetrac. If you need any weird info about it, let me know; AutoTech is literally two blocks down the street from me. :)
It's not too bad, the transmission comes out pretty easy, and you can work in that hole. Thanks for the offer on the AutoTech. I may hit you up when it's time.
I prefer the hex drive. I can use the bits, ( I use a lot of torx bits this way) I can use a 1/4 adapter ( I prefer the locking ones) or I can use a 3/8 adapter. I feel like the hex give you the most options.
please help i have a 2002+ vw jetta gli 2.8 30 valve vr6 6spd manualmy obd2 doesnt work no readout im when i plug in my code reader pulling my trans today timing chain kit please and thank you
i hope you can help on my vr6 ive finally got it all together the problem im having is i have 4 left over vacuum lines i have no clue where they go i cant find a repair for mine chilton says except vr6 mine is 2002+gli 2.8 30 valve
There isn’t that many on this engine. The Fuel pressure regulator, combi valve, evap, and probably a few more. Try and find where they naturally lay in the engine bay. That could help
It is very important to remember where the trans bolts go,...story time...I had been replacing my clutch on my 01' VR6 and after a long day of wrestling with the trans I was putting all the bolts back in and as I'm cranking on one of the bolts I hear a pop followed by a rush of coolant, turns out the coolant path way was on the other side of the bolt hole and I put the wrong bolt in, which was too long and punctured the engine block dumping coolant all over my face.
So I have to do the infamous Breather Hoses replacement dance on my 1.8T 03 Jetta. Should I get a silicone replacement kit since the OEM prices are outrageous for these plastic hoses that will go cracky dee doo eventually ? Remember me ? This is my 600$ crappylicious rust bucket that I love so much ( No sarcasm, I LOVE IT XD ) . I kinda don't want to drop about 400$ for plastic hoses at my dealer XD. And labor ain't cheap either. Any advice ? Thanks !
I'm buying a jetty vr6 as my project car, in a weeks time. I really think your videos will help me a lot. have to spend a lot on importing tools and parts to my country.
I can get a kit with drill and impact driver drill for stupid cheap at Home Depot right now. Only thing is it comes with the 2.0 batteries.. Is it even worth it? I want to eventually buy a Milwaukee high torque 1/2" Impact
$199 Canadian for the Drill, Impact, Charger, Two 2.0 batteries and carrying bag. Might not be cheap by US standards but up here that's a steal. Normally go for $320
whatever makes you happy. thanks to you, I'll be applying at a VW dealer in the near future, I'm 14 years into being a technician, but there's still time to learn something new. thanks for the videos that inspired me to dive into these vehicles

Everyone hating on the mandals, let him be relaxed , he knows when and how to be safe , sometimes comfort is important
HAHA Thanks.
Nothing but love for wearing sandals and working on cars !
RIGHT!!!
Sandals has never been a problem , though I had a spark plug arc to my zipper the other day ... Think that story explains itself !!
I'm at the point in my vr6 project where I have to reattach the gearbox to the engine. Now I've never done that clutch fork and release bearing before. Anything special you need to pay attention to ? Thinking about buying a reinforced clutch fork. Hydro clutch fyi
Can you please do a what to look for when buying a used gti video? I really need help! There is not a single video online about mk4 cars used.
Very cool series you got going. Look forward to future videos.
hey Charles. do clutches last depending on clutch brand ? are any heavy duty clutches which will last more than regular ones?
hey...brother. ..love all your videos. ...can't wait for the rebuild. ...mad respect. ..

For daily driving, do you prefer a single or dual mass flywheel?
Are the dual mass flywheels failure prone?
+edgeofvamp I really like DMF. But they are more prone to fail.
What would your opinion be on swapping the DMF for a SMF in a 98 audi a4 avant wagon? The wagon in question has had the secondary air injection and egr system deleted, along with a haltech 550 elite ECU putting out a respectable 240hp for the wife to daily.

Fair enough, thank you.
haha I am a flip-flop and Croc mechanic as well.
great video like always. damn i wish my motor would be done in a month or two so jealous!!!!!!!!, its been apart for months and i forgot where most of the bolts go, but I'm not to worried since its a spare and i can just look at the motor in my car for reference.
Thanks! It's great to have another one to help get things back together. I do that a lot!
Will upgrading the transmission as well? I.e. Shift forks? Bearings?
Not an 02M. The secret with these is to blow them to pieces and snap axles as the junkyard is full of O2J. I have the trans you have.
Get ready to see alot of 02M swap's in the future. People are scared about moving the rear mount. I think the x-parts mount may not require that mod. I should have some custom output flanges machined offer it as a package with axles/upgraded 02M.
I want to do a swap into my golf 1. Could you do a "how to" video? I want a vr6 inside of it. Thanks bro.
Hey, been trying to find the bolt sizes to mount the housing to the motor, do you have the measurements or know where i can find them?
thak you i got the vacuum done now is there a trick on how to bleed the clutch it works off the break master i just cant figure it out cant find a vid on here please help
best way is a pressure bleeder. amzn.to/2CvW1q3
Hi. The oil fill up plug is stuck in my vr6 gearbox. Any tricks to take it out?
I have te exact trans kn my vr6 and the cover where the diffrential is in broke down, like 1cm X 1cm Piece fell off the cover. Do you know can i replace just that cover or do i need to buy a whole new transmission for it?
Are you gonna have white wookie done before witw and do you plan to bring it?
Yes and hell yes!

A+ But that skinny chain is terrifying.
+Jon Doe I felt the same way initially. But she held up good. I have a bigger chain for install
That transmission looks super Light compared to the 02M!
Yeah she is not too bad.
How can one acquire the service of your interior friend?
Steel toe slippers! I have a pair myself.
What brand or who makes that blue tool box i like it it has side cabinets lots drawers
+MEMIN91911 it's made by Sonic Tools. Here is a full walk through I did.

Hey Charles where can I buy that mount you were talking about for the engine stand?
shop.eurowise.com/product-p/vr6000.htm
@@HumbleMechanic do you have 1 extra I could buy? Or any other company making them? Thanks bro
I just have the one.
@@HumbleMechanic😢 any site u know of that sells it?
Not that I know of other than Eurowise. I’m sure they are out there.
Charles. As far as the Milwaukee impact; would you prefer a straight 3/8 drive or the hex drive? Why?
I prefer the hex drive. I can use the bits, ( I use a lot of torx bits this way) I can use a 1/4 adapter ( I prefer the locking ones) or I can use a 3/8 adapter. I feel like the hex give you the most options.
Thank You Charles. I have a hex drive and I love it but I know the 3/8 is a bit more powerful so I'm torn.
Who makes the green shop trolley in this video Charles? Can't make it out. Thanks.
+Steve Scott it's made by OEM Tools. Let me find the link for ya.
many thanks
what's the benefit of the tdi 5th gear?
+okan elkin lower rpm on highway.
@humblemechanic where would you even get a tdi 5th gear? could you just get the gear without the trans?
I do work on my car in flops too

+Robert Hess yep! We had a guy do that here a long time ago.
It's why I do it the way I do.
@HumbleMechanic what code has this gearbox ? this is the same box like in 1.9 TDI ?
It's an 02a PN, the code is CCM. Its similar to the TDI gear box but with a different bell housing
When and how did you go about removing the crank pulley?
There is a holder tool for the pulley.
@@HumbleMechanic would you suggest pulling it while the engine is still in the car or out?
It’s easier in the car
So I have to do the infamous Breather Hoses replacement dance on my 1.8T 03 Jetta.

+Anthony Savoie I got the ones from 034 MotorSport for my Passat. Way cheaper than OEM, and seem great.
That's the one I was about to go for ! Thanks for the advice, order placed ! Keep up the good work.
Would it be easier to just pull the engine off to do the chains on a mk4 VW Jetta 12v vr6
Not if you’re just doing chains. I mean it’s an option for sure. But I don’t think it’s easier
Pro tip : Never ever try to weld in flip flops ! Hot glowing little balls are satans masterpiece ! :D
what gloves you using?
These are the nitrile glove amzn.to/2cpHhgl
and the other ones are from Sonic Tools.
What transmission r interchangeable with a 2003 vw golf gti vr6 manual 6 speed 2.8L?
Most all VR6 transmissions
what would i use to paint the engine parts or block itself?
+Natango Nambala I used high temp engine paint from Dupli-color on my last build.
I'm buying a jetty vr6 as my project car, in a weeks time. I really think your videos will help me a lot. have to spend a lot on importing tools and parts to my country.
+Natango Nambala right on!!!
What size battery do you have on that Milwaukee Impact? 5.0? Or the standard 2.0.
Those are the 5.0. I also have a 9.0, but I am saving it for a special project.
I can get a kit with drill and impact driver drill for stupid cheap at Home Depot right now. Only thing is it comes with the 2.0 batteries.. Is it even worth it? I want to eventually buy a Milwaukee high torque 1/2" Impact
Depends on the price. You can always upgrade the battery.
Not sure what price they're offering, but i haven't had any issues with my 2.0 batteries. Love my 3/8 M18 impact.
$199 Canadian for the Drill, Impact, Charger, Two 2.0 batteries and carrying bag. Might not be cheap by US standards but up here that's a steal. Normally go for $320
