Love these kinds of videos. High quality, no stupid music, no annoying overdramatic host with annoying voice .... just the pure ambience of local life. Thank you

As you can see, there are no beggars at all, as miserable as the United States and Britain.
AND the hookers lmao 😂
yea but there's no STORY
so true
Being poor does not mean you have to be dirty and disorganized or disorderly. I know alot of people who dont have money, but they still sweep and clean. I lived around the Tianhe area and walked in streets like this, except definitely less tidy. That was before the pandemic and I can say it is interesting place to stay and learn about how other people live.
I'm poor and i look rich
that's not true being poor is totally understandable its inevitable and being dirty is part of it so tell me when you're completely depressed and can't do anything about it that you even care about cleaning. some do some don't but respect those who don't because its not their fault.
@@davidrocha9847 I don't think the original comment was saying you must be clean, just you shouldn't associate wealth with cleanliness
The streets looks like New Delhi. Even the poorest part of China is same as the most advanced city and The capital city of India . This shows how much difference is India And China economically. CHINA IS NOT POOR AT ALL if you want to know what POOR looks like go and see the capital city of India (New Delhi). This poor are you said in china is more richer than the Capital city of India
In China, if you are poor, you still have a place to live, a job, and food to meet your basic needs for food, clothing, housing, and transportation. The poverty in India is homelessness, lack of three meals, let alone other life needs.
❤❤ better than anywhere. A little poor but Peaceful, Safe & clean community. I can live there with those people happily. From South Korea.
where is the life of the poor here. didnt see anything. they just live a simple life, but poor I cant see it here. My inlaws live also in Guangzhou, similar home somewhere in Xiue Xiue district. Yes, houses from the 50s/60s. But, they are pensioners already, and receive from the government a total of CNY 12,000. Which is similar as my mother receives in the Netherlands as pension. So, because the streets look tiny and the houses from 50 or 60 years ago, doesnt mean they are poor.
Correct. I know Guangzhou well and I know people living in such alleys several places in Guangzhou. None of them are poor.
@@torbjrnmelbye6823 They are not poor, just some grassroots office workers

Well said ! Western foreigners ALWAYS think negative judgement about China ! Either ,they are jealous as China rise from a poor country to present Superpower in term of economy , military or political!
The cleaniest alley I've seen.
It's narrow but clean.
Some dark spots but safe to walk by.
The small street is amazingly very clean and seems quite peaceful.
So true 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏
Cuando comience un terremoto vamos a ver si es peaceful ctm nub
I can feel the hard life in some respects there behind the hustle and crowded main streets, but I also agree how clean the streets and tight alleys are in those areas compared here in America. I see many times people here toss out beer/soda cans out of their cars in the streets while driving.
@@sting64az america is doomed
It looks nice to be honest, everything is clean and organised with no smelly garbage piled up anywhere, most people seem to be riding either bicycles or electric scooters so it's relatively peaceful and safe to walk and go about your business and just live.
I live in Indonesia here there are far far worse areas of poverty than this, even in Bali one of the world's most popular and busiest tourist destinations.
I see clean, safe alleyways and hard working people👍🏼❤️
So what, nobody wants to live in those poor environment.

I notice how clean those narrow walk ways are. Interesting.
Guangzhou is one of the places I would like to visit. Some people had said it was dirty and some had sworn that it is an amazing place. Guess I need to find out for myself and take that adventure. Definitely got motivated after seeing this video. Thanks for sharing.
Guangzhou is not too bad, but there are a dozen of cities in China that are way nicer to visit.
Go to shanghai. Shanghai is the jewel of China
in honesty, it is the ghetto of china, the most dirty and dangerous city in china, still a great visit and safer than the west but its shabby in alot of areas
So CLEAN! Safe. Hard working people together. All the best from Poland. 😍 Love China.

Wow. I used to live in southeast Guangzhou, where I had my own lighting company with a Chinese partner. I lived in the Tianhe district several miles south of the computer store, University and downtown. My apartment complex was modern and really nice, but our shop where we built lights was in a section to the east of there, towards the train tracks, that was exactly like this. The maze through the tower blocks of apartments always reminded me of Blade Runner.
I was amazed that it was like walking from microcosm to microcosm of extremely dense neighborhoods, all scrunched together, each with its own unique features and people. Eventually, after walking to and from work through these mazes, I actually began to know my way around. I began recognizing people from area to area as I navigated the narrow alleys. At first, it was a bit creepy, being so unaccustomed to such a strange scenario. But, I learned where the good street food was ... where the best markets with the freshest food were, where to get a haircut, buy cellular minutes, etc.
Being the big westerner (6-foot, 275 pounds) that walked through nearly every day, standing out like a sore thumb, I got a lot of odd stares and heard a lot of "Whaaaaaa!"s as I walked by. But, people eventually started smiling and saying "Hello" to me. I was accepted as belonging there, and they definitely made it known to me. The sights, sounds and smells of that adventure in my life will be with me forever.
Thanks for this, you just let me relive a walk to work!
Thank you for your comment, Guangzhou is a vibrant and inclusive city
@@chinawalk500 It is indeed! I loved my adventures there. Especially the food. SO amazing and inexpensive. The two towers of the computer store were MIND-BOGGLING! No best buy store could EVER compare!
Every once in a while, we would cross the river to go to the all-you-can-eat seafood buffet in Pan Yu.
Sounds like a wonderful adventure that left you with a wealth of fond memories! This video reminded me of some atmospheric alleys I had explored in Bangkok, Hanoi and Kyoto, though more narrow. One particular alley on the fringes of Bangkok’s Chinatown appeared to be a Little India in miniature, with Indian shops and predominantly Indians encountered, with the alley becoming more narrow and dim the further I walked. I had made one solo trip to Japan and seven trips covering seven countries in SE Asia, but have yet to make it to China and hope to visit it someday. Cheers!
@@scottmcintire8634 Funny, my current bucket list is Vietnam, Tokyo, and Pattiya! If you get to China, I recommend hanging on the Kowloon side while waiting on your entry visa (usually next day), as Kowloon has some really great bars, pubs, and shopping. Then I recommend Guangzhou, Shenzen, and Shanghai to visit. Beijing is ok, but has really bad air quality and is a bit more expensive. Happy travels!
@Keyboard Emperor I lived on the top floor of a 16-floor building in my complex. It wasn't a fancy penthouse or anything, as all the apartments were the same from floor to floor. I just happened to get one that was available on the top floor. We had all types of shops under our buildings, just like the local neighborhoods.
From laundry and dry cleaners to grocery stores, a meat/seafood market, a convenience store with beer, snacks, and ciggies, and even a barbershop. I'd say that my one-bedroom apt. was about 500 square feet or so. And the shower had EIGHT heads! It was really nice! My rent was a paltry $390 USD a month! And it was completely furnished!
I made friends with the guards that looked after our complex and they looked the other way when I brought home girls from the pubs on weekends. As you likely know, this is actually a no-no in China! (In fact, the very first rule on my lease was that I had no "guests".) They would even get on the radio and wrangle them cabs from the front gate and send them to my building (which was in the very back of my complex), to send them home. I really loved living there in that complex.
And, aside from my business partner turning on me after the company was successfully up and running (which every ex-pat I met there warned me he would eventually do), the experience is one of the fondest I have. I loved living in China.
I observe well-kept, secure alleyways and diligent people.
It is a different side of the city, not usually seen by tourists/visitors. It is appreciated. Thank you for sharing.
我很多年前去過,那裡的食物好吃又便宜!
But the key fact here is that, you can be safe walking thru an alley way like this in china! I have been going to China for years, almost 2-3 times a year. It is as you seen it in this video!
.....without being waylaid,mugged,pickpocketed....
china is actually incredibly unsafe weather it be sink holes, falling building, murders or muggings its just that news on such occurrences are completely censored so people are blissfully unaware, the worst part is if any of the above happens people just turn their head and ignore it

Very friendly people, only saw two homeless people and only had people trying to sell me stuff around the Great Wall. The cops ended up running them off.

That was remarkable. It was great seeing China in such an interesting way.
My only experience with Guangzhou was spending several days there with a girlfriend. I didn't know that chicken feet are a favourite food in Guangdong. I found the flavour excellent but, like most Westerners, I thought there were too many bones to enjoy the dish. I also climbed Mount Bayun. When we summited, I was surprised to see oldsters singing traditional Chinese folk songs next to a hillside where screaming people in giant wire round cages bounded down the slope and an entire bamboo bunji jump was working at full capacity. One of the rural delights I experienced was in Qingshan fishing village. Before tourism, the men of Qingshan where we were told that until recently were too poor to marry, were actively engaged in human husbandry. An interesting sideline is we were fed two ocean vegetables that didn't grow anywhere else on Earth. Qingshan is on the West slope of Mount Lao, China's tallest coastal mountain just east of Qingdao.
any communist propaganda there?
Same in Thailand chicken feet are eaten there too
It’s quite clean actually. I was just in New York Times Square and it was filthy dirty! With homeless everywhere.
China and East/Southeast Asia are the only regions in the world where you can enter such areas without getting mugged, beaten, or killed. Try this in any other place and you wouldn't live to upload your video. Goes to show how safe Asia is compared to many other parts of the world.
This is a new experience for me, being able to walk here. exciting night. thank you for sharing.

So you like social confinement and minimalism?😑
What I dont expect is its clean and neat, wow.
I enjoy walking on many of China's alleyway. There are no trash, smell, poop, sewage water leftover and security issue like in many other countries. So it's quite an interesting experience & something that everyone can enjoy without fearing for their life (especially for woman). At least the ones that I've been to.

When I first arrived in Guangzhou, it was in the city centre where I stayed the most at the start. Lived out near Canton Tower for a few years. Didn't really see places like this in the city until I met my wife. She was from an area like this. I have been visiting places like this now a lot. People are used to me visiting my wife's family now, but at the start, I got stares and curious looks, especially from kids. I feel a lot safer here than certain places where I grew up in the West.
Well, those "certain" places you grew up in, must've been hell because it certainly doesn't look safe at all here. This guy is only recording women and children were are the others.

Good Place. Clean and with no much noise..
In China, this is called: Village in the City!!! Most of the people living here are migrant workers from other provinces. Because the rent here is very cheap, I like this kind of place very much, because it is very lively, and you can find everything you want to eat here. Although it is very poor, it is very clean, and everyone is very friendly and helps each other. Also, not all of them are poor, many of the landlords or locals are very rich. Although it is very shabby here, the housing prices are unimaginable!!! Haha

From the look of the alleyway housing. It used to be a small village in the style of Canton area, but this village got swallowed up by urbanization nearby by being surrounded with high rise buildings and nearby new shops building that attract all type of new people.
What an interesting looking place! At first since "poor" was in the title, I was expecting more slum-like conditions. However, despite the compactness of their living space, those alley ways look clean and well kept. Props where it is due on that note.
it is amazing how clean everything is in China honestly. You would think everything being crammed together it would be dirty but for the most part it isn't. When traveling with my wife and her sister there I was stunned to see how clean the road sides were vs here in the US. There were large teams of people traveling between the cities living off the land cleaning up the trash, trimming the trees and such. In the cities there were large groups sweeping the sidewalks to the street gutter where a waiting street sweeper was to clean up the trash. The poor area my younger sister-in-law lived in was only what I would call dirty due to the construction there from renovating buildings and fixing the streets.
These aren't poor people. Not by Chinese standards, anyway.
