The History of Miromar Factory Outlet Center in Champlain New York.

The Miromar Factory Outlet Center opened in June 1993. It was located right off Exit 42 of I-87 roughly 2 miles south of the Canadian border and 20 miles north of Plattsburgh. The center was clearly targeting Canadian cross-border shoppers from Quebec. The strategy worked for a while but over the years, Canadian traffic dropped, stores started to close, and eventually the entire center was empty.

Whenever I see Miramar it sometimes unsettled me

Another factor besides the CAD-USD rate being at an all-time low and Plattsburgh's post-base closure local recession was that there wasn't really enough at Miromar that people living in surrounding cities like Glens Falls, Massena, Potsdam, or Burlington, VT couldn't get at home.

I met my future wife there. I had a friend who worked at Eagle's Eye. She said she had a friend she wanted to hook me up with. I went to the store and met a girl at the register. It turned out to be the "wrong" girl (her friend was in the back). I've been with the "wrong" girl for 30 years now :-)
