These look great! My Dad loved forms like this. Back in the 1970s, he even bought a special type ball for his Selectric typewriter that let him type lines and boxes and all the parts of a form. Then he'd run off a bunch of copies on the office Xerox machine. (Back then, the only copiers were Xerox machines, gigantic things that only a company could afford.) We used them on all of our flights in the family Cessna 182.
Looking forward to the 5-10 minute talks. A topic that I would like to hear about is purchasing a plane for the purpose of getting your private license.
VFR flight following radio calls. From finding the correct frequency to call for it, to how to make the request. When to say you're doing something different (RTE/ALT) vs when to ask. Differences between talking to approach vs center.
Great product Josh, this will really help for my instrument training, order placed! I really like the video, I think discussing more technical aspects of flight has been a great benefit to the channel. I still watch some of the old POV flights you used to do around the pattern, helps me with armchair flying at home and keeps me motivated when I can’t fly as often.
Josh, excellent concept. Love the solo chats that get back to grassroots. Ditto for your solo air ventures that concentrate on flight knowledge. I was licensed at 18, 44 years ago and haven’t flown in years. I am retiring in a while and would like to get back to becoming a proficient and safe pilot. A chat in your biweekly vids on the best way to do that may inspire more folks like me to do so.

I wish my CFI's were that organized. As an older student (soloed the day before my 60th birthday) I thrive on a structured environment when it comes to training. I have been in a technical field for many years, and one thing I have come to appreciate is the level of preparation that goes into *effective* training.

But, I probably err too much on the side of caution, and choose not to go when I might have been able to go, while proceeding with caution. Anyway, would love your thoughts.
DMMS. Dan Grider is doing an excellent job on learning how to fly using CLR that the airlines use in training. I’m a product of that aircrew training in the mid 80’s. Now retired but made my whole career a safe one.

Greetings Sir, Great article and video! I just have a couple of questions, I know that there are several IFR departure procedures including ODP, SID, Climb via, radar departure..etc 1. The ifr clearance/CRAFT mentioned including the craft at a non controlled airport, is the CRAFT part of the odp, Sid, or other ifr departure procedures? Or is it simply just a clearance or a “permission” from act to get into the skys from ATC. 2. Let’s just say I’m at a major busy controlled airport KLAX for example, and I’m using the SID or ODP for my departure, will I need to copy down the a whole bunch of stuff from ATC for the CRAFT as well for my clearance or “permission” to get into the skies from ATC? I assume flying the airlines have a much more easier way like just inputing down all the information in the flight computer system right? And only for general aviation like if I’m flying Cessna 172 part 91 where I have to write down all the bunch of stuff for the CRAFT info? Thank you! Meaning do I need to get an IFR clearance from either a controlled airport and a non-control airport as well? 3. I have heard from different sources including flight insight about the number of flight IFR departure procedures, I’m not sure if this is correct but I will just name the ones that I know below, Please correct me if there any mistakes or any overlaps, thank you. I am a big fan of these types of short hand forms. Yours is very well laid out. I have only one suggestion if you ever do a revision. I'm not as familiar with your weather in the Great state of Texas. However in the PNW we often have mixed layers. Do you have a suggestion on how to note what we had recently? For example, this is a typical Winter day; Few 010 - Bkn 015 - Ovc 025? I am looking forward to the continuation of this kind of content.
I wouldn't mind seeing a video where you offer your perspective on buying a plane. I love the upgrades that you did to your plane and could strongly consider an old plane for the right price. However, how old is too old? and is a new plane, although expensive, just inherently better due to advances in technology and manufacturing?

I'm a new Private pilot and have only flown archers. Maybe a topic about transitioning to other aircrafts but not necessarily multi or sea. Tips and tricks if there are some.
I’m looking for the best way to determine, during a pre-flight briefing, the most up-to-date, specific terrain and hazards located off the end of the active runway I’m using. Google Earth overhead photography? Aviation topographical maps? The point being, an in-flight emergency presents itself on takeoff, and there’s runway underneath, put it down. Ok. If I’ve attained sufficient altitude for a safe return to the runway, ok. But…in between those parameters, land straight ahead…ok…but what precisely is really on the ground straight ahead, or a few degrees left or right, headed into the wind?
I already got mine! I bought the day after they came out. I was going to use the IFR one today but our flight got scrubbed due to sick flight crew. Bummer! I'll try next week.
I use Foreflight scratch pad to get my info correct. It eliminates the paper issue and maintains a record of what you recorded for your IFR flight. I’m hopeful that PDCL clearances will move to taxi clearances with ADSB equipped aircraft. It’s a slow evolution, but doing this IFR near paperless would be awesome. I’ve done paper for a long time, kinda of like the digital realm better.
OK, so you mentioned having ZULU time down at the bottom of your iwatch. I would like to do the same on my iwatch and ipad and iphone. Sadly, I cannot figure it out. Hep anyone?
These look great! What would it take to get Foreflight to incorporate these into the scratchpad? They have the departure ATIS format, CRAFT format and PIREP scratchpads, these would compliment these items. On future topics, I noticed in a previous video that you flew with your dad doing instrument approaches. I would like to see topics to maintain proficiency for the aging pilot population and any tips that you use for instructing older/rusty pilots. Excellent work, love your videos.

How do you like your glasses? I have a slight astigmatism at distance and my ame said if wouldn’t be a bad idea to get a pair and even the eye doc agreed. I have flying eyes sunglasses already so it’s an easy switch but I have to spend the money again or buy a cheap pair that will still fit under my headset.
Wish i could get a T hangar like that in alaska, if you can find one ya gotta have an extra $15,000 a year layin around. Love the ifr note pad im gonna order a couple now, ive got my ifr checkride coming up soon.

I think IFR clearances should be texted to pilots on their phones in a standardized format, and then the pilot read-back would be all that is required. The only thing ATC needs to say is, "...read-back correct. contact ground." I have never understood why this can't happen. The IFR request would be, "(tail number) requesting IFR clearance to (airport)."
Dude! I've never flown and don't have access to a plane....... However. I've watched all your videos several time over and would love to fly someday! Thank you for all the camera angles in your videos, some youtubers just film themselves talking, and that's ok, but you do an amazing job with your editing.

I've been struggling making the final decision to start my private pilot certificate course. I'm a full time uni student, so I'm not sure if I have enough time (and monetary resource) staying on top of the uni contents and staying proficient at piloting. How long does it take to pass the checkride? And what is the approx. cost?

decent planning and how you set up the vnav profile on the G3x Touch would be a great item to cover. I typically fly G1000s but there is a G3x touch in one the planes where I rent and I feel it would translate to the G1000 pretty well too. Love your content and keep up the great work!!!
