2023 Outstanding Young Scientist Award Recipient: You Zhou, Ph.D.

Professor Zhou leads an interdisciplinary research group focused on investigating and leveraging the quantum behaviors of electrons and ions in solids to design materials with enhanced functionalities. The group’s ultimate goal is to precisely manipulate these particles at the quantum level to create new applications in electronics, optics, and energy.
Through their research, Professor Zhou has made several groundbreaking discoveries, such as the observation of electron crystallization in two dimensional materials, the development of single-atom-thick mirrors, and the creation of high-performance fuel cells, and neuromorphic computing devices.
Professor Zhou’s achievements have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Early Career Scientist Prize from the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics, the Early Career Award from the Department of Energy, and the CAREER Award from the National Science
Foundation.
