@@TiagoCatarino The teal color should represent jade, an expensive jewel. In legends, a dragon's hiding place is supposed to be filled with treasure. The "energy ball" is a pearl, and it is a symbol of wisdom and power. Also, the bottom part could be the ocean and waves. However, it could also be the sky and clouds because a dragon can swim and fly.
In the Chinese zodiac, 2024 is the year of the dragon. This it's meant to be a water dragon, which is a symbol for peace and healing (i.e. the water element). It looks to me like the dragon is standing on top of a rock that's sitting in water, and the orange and yellow clouds are suppose to be a sunrise, which symbolizes new beginnings. The blue ball it's holding is a Pearl of Wisdom which is often depicted with a water dragon. I don't know what the sign translates to.
Given the explanations in the comments and the overall themes associated to dragons in Chinese mythology, my personal take is that the dragon is through or resting atop the crest of a mountain. I really liked the association a commentator made about the yellow and orange clouds being a reflection of sunrise. The teal is probably to claim the rock is made of jade. Very nice model. Would be a lovely display set for the top area of a bookshelf.
They made this set because this year is the year of the Dragon! There are 12 animal signs (even though a dragon isn’t an actual animal). Creator 3 in 1 actually makes animals according to the animal that is the year’s Chinese animal sign. They made a tiger the year before the last because 2022 was the year of the Tiger, a rabbit for 2023 because it was the year of the rabbit and a small dragon for 2024. After all, 2024 is the year of the Dragon. And of course, they also made a big Dragon this year. Next year is the year of the snake, so I bet there will be a snake-related LEGO set.
Those scale prints are neat, wouldn't be against seeing them in more sets. Roof shingles, wall design, maybe even a red version for a collectors Shang-Chi set, the Great Protector and wall would look great with it.
Those are not water and smoke, those are clouds, this is a Chinese dragon flying, though they can swimming and diving, but we rarely see any painting of them under water, they are always flying
As a Chinese, from what I know dragons are normally high up in the sky and the blue you see could be the atmosphere and the whites “waves” you see are the clouds, that’s how ancient Chinese art describe clouds, the orange and yellow monkey king clouds are still clouds as Dragons are majestic and spew fire, so technically their body can withstand the heat and in Chinese mythologies, dragon scales are golden, hence the clouds are that colour, as for the ‘rock’ it’s a mountain, that’s high up in the atmosphere :) As for the teal part, it could be like what your viewers said, it could be algae, but it could also be jade, as the Chinese believe that Jade wards off evil. Also I’m born in the year of the Dragon! I’m glad you bought this set as well!
It reads 祥龍納福 and translates to "Auspicious Dragon Brings Blessings" in English. Specifically: "祥龍" means an auspicious or fortunate dragon, symbolizing luck and prosperity. "納福" conveys the idea of absorbing blessings, bringing happiness and good fortune. ㄒㄧㄤˊ ㄌㄨㄥˊ ㄋㄚˋ ㄈㄨˊ or Xiáng lóng nà fú in pronunciation
Despite a few nitpicks here and there this set is still stunning and gorgeous, all prints and no stickers is also a massive win. I'll definitely be picking this one up, seems like a set well worth the purchase for an incredible display piece. Thanks for the review Tiago!
Got this one as a late christmas present. I love dragons but the ninjago ones never clicked with me. This build and design however was right up my alley and Im very happy to have it on display
Just finished the build last night and like it overall. I just wish they provided some support for the leg that is lifted up holding the blue orb. The dragon leans slightly in that direction because of it and loses stability.
WOW great model! LEGO did such a great job with this model. Please do the Family Reunion restaurant set as well! Looking forward to more of your reviews for the new releases!
Great review! Love seeing that stack of new purchases, which I’m hoping will be the review queue! Really looking forward to your thoughts on some of the new city sets!!!
I see it as almost a futuristic dragon robot/animatronic. That’s why it’s in parts very un- “naturalistic” and has technological feel. Claws, Joints for example. That’s why I also don’t mind the grey joints. A really beautiful set!
Feel like this could be a great set for those making MOCs - the Great scale tiles could be wonderful as roof tiles in an interesting colour (maybe some Mediterranean buildings) and the Chinese sign for signs and things like that.
Here in America, I saw this set for $67 at Costco in my local area. It is a terrific piece that was very enjoyable to put together. Also since rage dragon is my Chinese zodiac sign, it was fitting that I buy it. Great video Tiago!
I'm really torn on this one; it ticks pretty much all the boxes for me, in that it looks great and awesome to build, is a good size, is even priced fine. But in the UK, the Family Reunion set doesn't cost much more than this; there's only £20 between them which is not a lot and it makes the temptation of getting the Family Reunion set twice to make a full building very enticing. I won't do that of course, but it does give an idea how tempting the proposition is. Regardless, this looks great and I'm probably gonna go for it anyway as it does fit my bill as well as being born on the year of the dragon myself.
The Dragon is clearly standing on a mountain surrounded by clouds. It is Dragon after all. 👍Thanks for the 4k videos, enjoying them a lot even though I never buy bricks.
(Question!) Tiago as. Former LEGO designer do you have any answers regarding why LEGO chooses to use single coloured Technic pieces instead of recolouring them like any other piece? Cheers
I don't understand the comments I keep hearing on TH-cam about international pricing. At current exchange rates, 80 euro is $88, 70 GBP is $89, and 150 AUD is $100 but includes a 10% sales tax so works out to $91 on a like to like basis.
I was planning to build this with my wife as our new year’s activity, but it was missing two pieces in the very first bag! Had to request replacements and wait now…
Even as someone who holds LEGO in low regards I have to admit I like this set. Very little of LEGO's typical shortcomings to be found. Even the printing seems good which other companies do much better in general. Of course, it's still far too expensive and it wouldn't be LEGO if there weren't any visible blue pins, but it's nice all things considered.
I've built it and absolutely love it Only complain is at the start it isn't very clear which kind of grey you're supposed to be using when building the foundation which lead to a "repair" later In hindsight, probably should've look at the box art while building it 😊
It is actually very fair to have the price set to 80€ and 90$. Usually the Euro and Dollar prices are the same which is quite unfair regarding the Euro is worth around 10% more, than the Dollar.
The Chinese banner is printed in the wrong direction, since traditional banners are read from right to left (each character is in its column, starting from the right side) but LEGO printed it from left to right...
I totally thought the white pieces at the bottom were just more clouds, but now I can't unsee water! I guess that makes more sense. Maybe the teal part on the rocks is algae? Still not sure...🤣 Doesn't matter! This is a beautiful set!🔥
its such a little detail, but am i the only one who finds it slightly annoying that the seems to lean a little bit to the left? i manged to force mine to a more up right position but it really stressed me out when i first built it lmao
Chinese dragons are closely associated with water and are believed to have been living in streams, lakes, and rivers. Quite a few tales from the Monkey King mythology describes encounters with dragons in and under bodies of water. Some comments suggest the white pieces are clouds but then why even have the blue pieces at all? To me it looks like wind blowing off the crests of the waves. Guess you’ll have to ask the designer. The pearl is associated with the dragon’s power and wisdom.
Feels like lego is putting a tonload of attention towards chinese market. With pretty decend pricing as well. Looking forward to what the line will bring in the future
The Chinese market can be a pretty big one outside China itself. I am from Singapore, the only other UN-member state with a majority Chinese population, and this year's lunar new year sets were sold out mere days after they launched. So I am sure the Chinese diaspora will be snapping them up too all around the world.
Hey Tiago! I finally bit the bullet and bought the Lego Titanic on my credit card. Wife told me that if I get that then she can get the tattoo she wants! I said “done!” And just bought it 😂 Pray for me.
The VISIBLE blue pins and axis, grey ball joints and the teal plate looking through the rock look bad. If this was a MOC it would be okay, but LEGO is lacking in so many areas currently... Design-wise it looks cool, but these things shouldn't be there to begin with. (And holy the inside... LEGO is really making these sets way too easy to build with the unicorn puke on the inside)
